How Amazon Used the Four Functions of Management (Planning, Organizing, Directing, and Controlling)
Management is the achievement an enterprise goal in an effective and efficient manner through planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (Daft, & Marcic, 2013).
Planning
This is focusing and preparing for the future. A plan establishes what and how it is to be done. A plan provides specific goals, policies, strategies and procedure and making of budgets. Amazon plans to operate drones for commercial purposes. The company has made great improvements in its Prime Air program by experimenting with their drones in their lab. The drones will carry a five pound load of inventory which is enough to deliver over 80% of its products.
Organization
This is the assigning or distributing of tasks or duties to group or sections and individual positions within an organization. Amazon organizes the business into divisional organization. Different products act as companies with their own cost centers with separate marketing, engineering, and finance departments. However some functions are centralized for example legal and HR. Any earning that comes from a product’s organization remains clear for that product division with its profit and loss records.
Directing
Directing can also be called leading, motivating or activating (Havinal, 2009). It can include transmitting information from one person to the next. It is the stimulation of workers to do their best to the business. Amazon wants to crate leadership in innovation by simplifying delivery within its properties. At the same time the use of the drones will help convey information for efficient operations in product delivery.
Controlling
Controlling is the monitoring to establish whether progress is made or not to the achievement of the objectives and goals with an intention to carryout corrections on non-performance
