...This is from website. New consumers The sales growth is being underpinned this year by widening consumer participation and further embedding of coffee culture into UK lifestyles. With limited price increases by major chains, industry like-for-like sales growth of 3.5% has been achieved by new consumers enjoying coffee houses, better operating standards and menu innovation. UK consumers are clearly embracing the growing coffee culture trend and demonstrating their love of coffee, enabling the sector to substantially outperform the wider retail market, which in contrast, has grown at a sluggish pace of 1-2% over the past 4-5 years. Jeffrey Young, Managing Director, Allegra Strategies said: “The UK coffee shop market continues to astound even the most optimistic of forecasters, by growing significantly in value, in outlet numbers and also in the social psyche of the nation. As consumers gain more opportunity to consume quality coffee through more outlets, they are making it part of their lifestyle. Britain has become a ‘new nation of coffee drinkers’. Long live the cup of tea, but more and more consumers seek and enjoy quality coffee.” “High quality ‘artisan’ independent coffee shops are also fuelling consumer demand and driving the branded coffee shop sector to increase focus on authentic interiors, barista technique and to introduce a wider range of crafted coffees such as flat white and cortado.” “This focus on quality in all areas can only continue to drive a thriving industry...

...Caterpillar Inc.: Corporate Social Responsibility Some argue that the role of business is simply to make money. Others argue that this statement is wrong and that the components of corporate social responsibility are just as important to a business as it is to create shareholder value. (Davis, 2005, 105) The components of corporate social responsibility include looking after the community and environment as well as other things such as the helping out the stakeholders of the company. As you will soon find out a quality social performance will likely have positive effects on the company, while poor social performance will likely have negative effects. Caterpillar Inc. like most companies does have problems with their history of CSR but also has a very good record in other areas. Caterpillar Inc.: Poor Social Performance Caterpillar Inc. being a machinery company constantly has environmental guidelines it must follow. If they do not follow these guidelines there is likely to be consequences. One environmental headline Caterpillar Inc. would rather forget was on August 1st, 2000, when it was awarded by the not-for –profit organization Clean Air Trust, the Clean Air Villain of the Month. It was said the company appeared to be deliberately avoiding the legal agreement to clean up their dirty engines. Only 13 months earlier the Justice Department and the State of California had signed off an agreement with Caterpillar Inc. The agreement with the company was made after an investigation...

...Unlike traditional encyclopedias, Wikipedia can be edited by any reader. Except for particularly sensitive and/or vandalism-prone pages that are "protected" to some degree,[23] Wikipedia visitors can edit articles even if they do not have a Wikipedia account. Certain language editions offer a modified version of this policy; for example, only registered users may create a new article in the English edition.[24] A frequently vandalized article can be semi-protected, meaning that only established, verified users are able to make edits to that article.[25] A particularly contentious article may be locked so that only administrators are able to make changes.[26] An article is not considered to be owned by its creator or any other editor and is not vetted by any recognized authority.[27] Rather, editors are encouraged to discuss differing options regarding the content and structure of articles in order to come to agreement. By default, an edit to an article immediately becomes available. As a result, articles may contain inaccuracies, ideological biases, and nonsensical or irrelevant text until an editor corrects such deficiencies. Different language editions, each under separate administrative control, are free to modify this policy. For example, the German Wikipedia maintains "stable versions" of articles,[28] which have passed certain reviews. Following protracted trials and community discussion, the English Wikipedia introduced the "pending changes" system in December 2012.[29]...

...Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain v Boots Cash Chemists (Southern) Ltd [1953] 2 WLR427 is a well-known English contract law judgment on the nature of an offer. The Court held that the exhibition of a product in a store with a price attached is not adequate to be considered an offer, although relatively is an invitation to treat. Boots Cash Chemists had presently employed a new technique for its customers to purchase certain medicines. They would let shoppers single out drugs off the shelves in the chemist, and afterward recompense for them at the till, rather than involve all medicines to be behind a counter and for an associate to have to get what was asked for. The Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain objected, and disputed that under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act 1933, this was an illegal performance. Under s 18(1), a pharmacist required to administer at the point where "the sale is effected", when the product was one scheduled on the 1933 Act's program of poisons. The Society disputed that exhibitions of goods were an "offer" and when a purchaser preferred and placed the drugs into their shopping basket this was an "acceptance". Therefore since no pharmacist had overseen the operation at this summit, Boots was in violation of the Act. Boots disagreed that the auction was still merely exaggerated at the till. The date in the case reference is enclosed within square brackets, that is, [1953] 2 because as a primary source in law reports and citation of cases, when a...

Doc1- Socially Constructed Gender Inequalities Final Paper Doc 1 Class

...Socially Constructed Gender Inequalities The socially constructed differences between the sexes in American society have severely infringed the rights of women in the workplace. Mary Blair-Loy’s piece “Competing Devotions: Career and Family among Women Executives,” indicates that a socially constructed family devotion schema defines women as having to stay at home in order to care for children, husband, and household, and therefore women are discouraged by society to hold a job. In the piece “An Overview of Sex Inequality at Work,” Padavic and Reskin further explain that women who are in the job market are excluded from certain male dominated jobs and are often paid and promoted less than male coworkers. Padavic and Reskin’s piece as well as Blair-Loy’s agree that the inequalities found in the workplace, including limited prospects for promotion of women and sex differences in earnings, directly limit the social opportunities of women and keep them subordinate and dominated by men. The constructed roles that men and women are expected to play in our society also affect social institutions such as the home, where women are stereotypically expected to be caregivers, and men are expected to be the breadwinners. Women face a very unfair challenge when deciding what role to play in their adult lives. They also face unwelcome pressure by society to choose one of two schemas that are revealed in the piece by Blair-Loy. In her work, she defines a family devotion schema, and...
