...Doctor Who Convention It was Saturday, October 3, and I sat in the passenger seat of my mom’s car, pulling in the driveway to my friend’s house. As I closed the car door, I waved goodbye to my mom, then walked up the stairs to the front porch and knocked on the door. A girl with shoulder-length, curly brown hair opened the door and smiled at me. “Hey Tori,” she greeted. I smiled back and walked in the large house. “You know the door was unlocked, you could have just walked in,” she told me. “That’s okay, I wanted to knock. So, what are we going to do Brooke?” I asked. Brooke grinned and held up her tablet. “Doctor Who,” we said at the same time, then walked over to the huge sofa and plopped down, getting ourselves comfortable. We watched...

...a cold hard bottom chair patiently waiting on 0500 hours to come. As the time was winding down I had butterflies flying in the inside of my stomach. My palms were dripping with sweat and my eyes were telling the story of a weary one. All of a sudden I heard a loud buzz the doors came swinging open. I looked at the old time machine and seen that the moment I’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. Approaching me was a tall and skinny figure with a long white coat and black shoes that glided across the floor like skates. Those big blue eyes that I seen through those specs was to die for. Coming out of my fantasy with this Doctor I now knew that it was time for the big birth. He spoke fluently in his barrow town voice, “ Ms.Luckett are you ready” my reply was a smile so wide you could see the breakfast I had two hours before. He escorted me through the halls that seem as if they were never going to end. I was greeted by so many different smiles and body languages. Finally I had made it to my destination! The room was very dark and cold. In the room it was two chairs with floral printing on them that rocked back and forth. A television that looked like it was there since the WWII, and a bed that looked like it was hard enough to drive a car upon. The doctor gave me the ropes of the procedure and stated that I shouldn’t be afraid. As I lay in the bed with nothing but a gown on feel like I’m exposing myself to the world. Family and friends were stopping by and was overjoyed...

...Bailey Belser Professor Ippolito English 112-11F February 3, 2014 In the Eyes of the Other Person Authors will often choose to use elements to help give the audience a better understanding of the message in their story. Elements are what make up the story in its entirety and help the reader create an image in their mind. A great example of a short story that includes such elements is William Carlos Williams’ “The Use of Force.” In this story, elements such as theme, background, symbolism, and image are utilized in a way to communicate the idea that there are two sides to every situation. In this short story, there appears to be an overall theme. William Carlos Williams seems to want to make the audience understand that there are usually two sides to every situation—in this case, for a little girl, a doctor’s visit is frightening and for a doctor, it is just another job. Williams demonstrated just how scared the little girl was throughout the story in many ways. In one instance, the mother reassured the little girl to not be afraid and that the doctor would not hurt her (Williams 80). In another instance, Williams writes, “As I moved my chair a little nearer suddenly with one catlike movement both her hands clawed instinctively for my eyes and she almost reached them too” (81). Williams uses the girl’s actions to further convey his message that she was frightened. It is easy to assume that a grown man having to deal with this would get frustrated. Williams chose to demonstrate...

...In the short story The Use of Force by William Carlos Williams, the little girl does not want to be examined by the doctor because she is scared of how sick she really is and being diagnosed by the doctor makes the illness real; which causes the doctor to use force in order to see her throat so he can properly diagnose her. The doctor’s use of force is portrayed in the story as being necessary for the greater good when he states “I have seen at least two children lying dead in bed of neglect in such cases, and feeling that I must get a diagnosis now or never,” and then he later states that “It is a social necessity.” Even though the doctor becomes enraged from the struggle between the child and himself while trying to pry her mouth open,...

Johnsy lay on her bed, hardly moving. She looked through the small window. She could see the side of the brick house next to her building. One morning, a doctor examined Johnsy and took her temperature. Then he spoke with Sue in another room. "She has one chance in -- let us say ten," he said. "And that chance is for her to want to live. Your friend has made up her mind that she is not going to get well. Has she anything on her mind?" "She -- she wanted to paint the Bay of Naples in Italy some day," said Sue. "Paint?" said the doctor. "Bosh! Has she anything on her mind worth thinking twice -- a man for example?" "A man?" said Sue. "Is a man worth -- but, no, doctor; there is nothing of the kind." "I will do all that science can do," said the doctor. "But whenever my patient begins to count the carriages at her funeral, I take away fifty percent from the curative power of medicines." After the doctor had gone, Sue went into the workroom and cried. Then she went to Johnsy's room with her drawing board, whistling ragtime. Johnsy lay with her face toward the window. Sue stopped whistling, thinking she was asleep. She began making a pen and ink drawing for a story in a magazine. Young artists must work their way to "Art" by making pictures for magazine stories. ...they are seen at their exact appointment time. It is a very rare story when patients are kept waiting and are not entertained by the doctors on the allotted time. Booking the appointments realistically ensured that the appointments remain on schedule. Giving proper amount of time for each visit helped a lot to run the schedule on track. Patients’ being allotted some specific time and the availability of adequate amount of examining room was also an important factor. Availability of some assistants and instructing them on the standing operating procedures based on the workload proved to be an add-on. Initial paper work took some time, so the new patients were asked to come earlier so that the work could be completed on time. Also informing the new patients to adhere to appointment timings was a usual practice to avoid delays. What procedures were followed to keep the appointment system flexible enough to accommodate the emergency cases, and yet be able to keep up with the other patients’ appointments? It is often observed that doctors misuse the time and often emergency cases are taken as excuses for not adhering to the schedule. It was important to make the system flexible to adjust the emergency cases as well as to adhere to the timelines and get back to schedule. In case of real emergencies like fractures or caesarean section etc., all other appointments could be dropped; however in case of small issues, the doctor was expected to come back on track as early as possible and give...

...Falling from three stories Due to different circumstances I spent my year of high school living in Independence Village with my aunt Kerra. Like most children, I was quite disobedient and always insisted on having my own way; regardless of the consequences thee after. This particular day started off like any other, but ended so differently, that it almost cost me my life. As my Lincoln (my cousin), and I came home from school, my aunt told him that one the parrots had flown away to one of the nearby trees and didn’t wanted to come down, and that he needed to go for it. Of course I jumped on that ban wagon and went behind him too; but as I was about to climb up the tree, my aunt came to me and told me to come down. I really didn’t saw the purpose of her demand, nor did I saw the harm in me going up the tree with Lincoln neither; because after all, “I always di climb deh-ya trees with he”. None the less, she insisted and insisted that I came down and went upstairs, so I went upstairs but as she turned her back on me, I went right back up the tree to where my cousin was; about three stories high. When I got to where Lincoln was, he smiled and said good thing I came because he cannot reach the parrot but being that I was taller than he was, we’ d switch places, I would reach for the parrot, pass it to him, and then come down. So just as we planned, we swapped place, I got parrot, passed it to him and just as he stepped back, off the limb that we were on and I step forward...

My heart was racing and I was very emotional at the time and when the doctor announced it a boy we were so overjoyed to finally know what our bundle of joy’s sex was and in my mind this was truly a miracle after struggling to get pregnant for so long. ...Paper on Play Read in Class 2 In the Next Room The story is about a group of people that are sexually frustrated with their loved ones. It begins with a couple named Mr. Daldry, and Mrs. Daldry, Mr. Daldry thinks that his wife Mrs. Daldry is ill with some kind of illness that made her not like what she used to be in their sex life, so they went to see a doctor named Mr. Givings. Mr. Givings had invited something called vibrator, and he thinks that it will help patient with their sex life, but he doesn’t relies that his own wife Mrs.Givings have the same illness as Mrs. Daldry . The play is more like a dark comedy mixed with sad drama, you laugh and at the same time you feel sorry for the characters, like when Mrs. Givings said to her baby that she will find him a nice wet nurse with healthy milk, and then she was near tears, but she recovered. The play in the nearly end turned to be more serious. The set will be divided into two rooms, the doctor office and the lobby. At the play's climax, the actors step through the imaginary wall dividing the rooms to create the third and final scene, outdoors in the snow. Snow is used throughout the play as a symbol of love. There is couple of things that I think might be difficult to approach during the play. The first thing is the dividing the stage into two rooms. To solve this problem we will need to have a large stage that can be divided into more than two rooms. The second problem is to let the audience feel and what the...
