...Body, Soul and Spirit One of the heated arguments of Christianity is: Are Human Beings composed of two elements or three? Are we body and spirit or are we body, spirit and soul (which includes our mind, will and emotions)? This argument has been going on for centuries. In our modern America, another theory has been formed. We are only made up of one element. We are just glorified animals. We have just evolved and become more advanced than the other animals. There is no such thing as an everlasting spirit. When we die, we cease to exist. This theory, of course, is only accepted by a very few. Those who believe this theory believe that they are so elite, so intelligent, that they are the highest creature that could ever exist. Thus, there is no such thing as a god or eternal spirit that could exist. With very, very few exceptions, all people and all religions believe that we have an eternal spirit that lives on after we die. We believe this, because it is built into us. Our spirit is a part of who we are. It is the part of us that reaches out to God. Even if we don’t know who God is, we know that there is something out there that is calling to us. God Created Us The Bible teaches us exactly how God created human beings. Genesis 2:7 (NIV) says: “The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” The King James Version says that he became a Living Soul. The word translated “soul” (in...

...“Deutero-Pauline” uses Col 1:22 In the body of his flesh through death. It is through the sufferings of Christ that they are enabled to come to God. Without Christ and the cross there could be no gospel. To present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight. Through his blood their sins are cleansed, so that they are holy in the sight of God. Col 1:18 And. In Col 1:15-17, Paul portrays Christ as the center and source of the creation. In this section he shows that he is the Head of the "new" creation. He is the head of the body, the church. In the church he is pre-eminent. It is his spiritual body, and he is the supreme head. Compare 1Co 11:3 Eph 1:10,22. Who is the beginning. The new creation began from him and in him. He is first of all in time. The first-born from the dead. He first conquered death, and not for himself alone, but the great company of those found in him who have been born from the dead. Barnes' Notes on Colossians 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you - For you as a part of the Gentile world. It was not for the Colossians alone, but he regarded himself as suffering on account of his labors in preaching to the pagan at large. His trials at Rome had come upon him because he had maintained that the wall of partition between Jews and Gentiles was broken down, and that the gospel was to be preached indiscriminately to all mankind; see this illustrated in the introduction, Section 5. And fill up that which is behind of the afflictions...

...John 14:25-26 "These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Today we are going to start our study of what people often call spiritual gifts, what they are, why we have them, how to use them. People get so excited about spiritual gifts. You get these churches that can’t get enough of them and are Paul says that right now they are ignorant concerning (spirit things) pneumatikwn: a lot of ignorant teaching about spiritual gifts. Paul says be careful. He says, in verse 1, ”Now concerning these types of spiritual things, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed, or ignorant.” 1) Not All That Glitters is Gold: Not every thing that looks “spiritual” is in actuality from the Holy Spirit. We’re going to look at three important words today that I think are very misunderstood. The important word here is “Pneumatikon.” Spiritual things. This is was not Paul’s favorite word to talk about God’s giftings, but he uses it here because it was a favorite word of the Corinthian church. Paul uses the word more in his letter to the Corinthians than in the rest of the New Testament combined. The Corinthians liked to call themselves spiritual and they gloried in dramatic expressions of spiritually. But remember, there so-called spirituality was a self-deception. The picture here is Pyryte: fools Gold. Don’t...

...Corinthians 5 Bad News - people are born in sin, and have sins as well. We will die and go to hell unless we receive the Lord Jesus. some people don'treally think they need a savior. We need a church to tell us a bout the savior accurately. True Repentance - a genuine heart without corresponding action shows ingenuineness of repentance The Great Exchange 2 Corinthians 5 16 - we regard noone according to the flesh, flesh=body, has the desire to do things. we deal with the flesh all of the time if somebody received Jesus, we refuse tolook at them at the flesh anymore for we know christ in the spirit 17 - new creation 18 - everything about you is of God if you are in Christ, all things have passed away, all things are new. we are a new creation. this is now the way that i see them because of what jesus did. the sin is dead. the old person is dead. just because we don't see it in the outside, it doesnt mean its not there are you in christ and something happened. is there something different? don't judge by the flesh. only God knows if they are really saved. you didn't measure up to get saved, you cannot measyre up to stay saved. determine your faith, not your works. v 20 - ministry of reconilitiation to tell other people to be reconciled to God 21 - the great exchange righteousness is a free girt. we did not only receive it, we become it 1 samuel 16:7 do not consider the outward appearance. the Lord does not look at the things the people look at. the...

...which the quotations were made. Prabhupada's elucidation of particular subjects spanned several discourses; thus the quotations clubbed together around one point may not be from the same day. 1. Vedic *dharma* real and apparent This section of quotations shows that real Vedic dharma, or *varnasrama-dharma*, is *nivrtti-marga.* Accordingly, the *yajna* (sacrificial work) meant for each and every occupation of the social body's four parts aims at liberation. *Pravrti-marga*, "Hindu dharma," and modern technological society, are aimed at some kind of materialistic substitute for liberation. According to the Vedic system, there are two paths: *pravrtti-marga* or the path of sense enjoyment, and *nivrtti-marga*, or the path of renunciation. We have come within the material world to enjoy material resources, and this is the path of *pravrtti.* However, when a person comes to understand that he is not the body but the soul, then his occupation changes, and he enters onto the path of *nivrtti.* We have already described *dharma* as...

...“Playing God” is a dangerous accusation toward the scientists and researchers that work for the betterment of humanity through organic replacements and modifications. To really play God, one must undertake deliberate actions to create life or affect the human race in a significant manner that many would consider ethically unacceptable. Today’s medical breakthroughs see unnecessary scrutiny due to the misinformed notion that the creation of life through unnatural means is an act of man playing God. This theme of creating life from other pieces is clearly shown in the novel “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley. Also, as seen in cloning, there needs to be a base from another animal or creature. In other words, a scientist cannot make a human or other...

...in our entire body because he believes that the soul doesn’t exist in one place. He believes that there is no certain place that the soul needs to be because if the soul is united to the body, therefore it must be in the whole body. Another way Aquinas can see it as if motor, then soul could control each part of the body to make the body as one. If not motor then the body is nothing and can only function with the soul flowing through the entire body, the soul can’t be in one part of the body. For example, we experience the sense of touch in our hands and our feet at the same time. And, when we die, the soul leaves the body, everything stops working, and all the human functions cease. So without the soul in our bodies we won’t feel anything and if any part of the body does not retain its proper action then the soul and body separate and the soul lives on. Sartre is arguing the complete opposite of Aquinas because he believes that if God created human nature then the soul would exist, but sense he believes God does not exist then human nature and soul does not exist. Sartre believes we are who we make ourselves and we develop as we live our lives. For example, there is no way God could just appear and start creating everything. If that were the case, then I would want to come into this world as a celebrate or even become a famous soccer player. No, God had to had learn from somewhere and gain experience to be the person that he became, he could not have just been born...

...Church I. Introduction II. Origin of the Word Church III. The Bride IV. A Structure V. The Branch VI. A Body VII. Other names VIII. Saints and royal priesthood IX. In Him X. Conclusion Introduction Oh, hallelujah! I am a woman inside a man’s body. I can’t wait for the day that the real me comes out. I know who my husband is and I’m ready to sit down at my honeymoon feast and stare into his eyes. Oh, how glorious the day when the real me is set free. My husband is coming in on a white horse. He is my knight in shining armor. He is going to take me away to paradise. If this sounds sickening to you, it should. The sad part about it is, this is the exact type of message that gets people to shout down a man behind a pulpit. I don’t know if they do it out of ignorance or if they do it just to get a good offering. Either way it is very unbiblical to teach such falseness. The Bible says to study to show ones self approved of God, a work man that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Anyone who studies should know who and what the true church is. Hopefully by the end of this paper, I’ll be able to give you a glimpse of that truth. The Scriptures and background is beyond the scope of a paper. Origin of the Word Church It is not the scope of this paper to go into all the history and language study of the church. It is important, though, to have a foundation that can be built upon. I encourage one to look back in history and to do word studies on the...

...health professional should deal with them. Two major issues with this seemingly virtuous practice is the difficulty in differentiating between replaceable tissues and solid organs. Replaceable tissues, such as blood and bone marrow, can easily be given by a live donor, while organs can only be harvested once the donor is deceased, which brings about the debate about the criteria for determining death. Another major issue involves the question of who should give consent, and how to fairly allocate where these organs go. From a Christian perspective, however, a multitude of more critical Biblical issues are present. The first of these has to do with the Principle of Totality, which is to say that each part of the human body has a function and should not be removed. This principle does allow for transplantation, however, provided that the donation of the organ would preserve the life of another person. This issue is not directly addressed in Scripture, but certain Biblical principles must be applied to come to a conclusion. On one front, 1 Corinthians 6:19 (ESV) says, “Or do you not know...

A Spiritual Growth Essential - The Church Often, when dealing with new Christians, it seems as though they don't hold a very high regard for the Church of Jesus Christ. I think that they are mistaking the religious schemes of mankind for the Church of Jesus Christ. They have seen those that have used religion for their own personal gain, and have decided that they want nothing to do with that kind of religion, and I don't blame them. The truth is that the Church of Jesus Christ is not about religion at all, it's about relationship. You see religion is that which mankind does to make one feel good about himself toward God. Christianity is about developing in the personal relationship that God established with you at the moment of your salvation. When you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior you became a child of God (John...

...There is a wide variety of categories into which all things in the world can be divided. There are natural and unnatural phenomena; things created by mankind and those we consider to be product of the Supreme Mind; there is flora and there is fauna; there are things that we can modify and things that humans have no control over. One of the many ways to differentiate and classify everything and anything in the surrounding environment and, probably, one of the most universal ways, is to classify things as being either material or immaterial. It seems fairly easy to distinguish between the two. If we cannot touch, feel or see something, then it becomes the notion of the immaterial world. The rest belongs to the material things, which we can own, trade, purchase, possess, lose or give away. When Rene Descartes, one of the founders of the modern-day western philosophical science, laid the groundwork for his epistemological perspective called Cartesian Dualism, he was coming exactly from the same universal idea. The thoughts and hypotheses that Descartes tried so hard, throughout his lifetime’s work, to develop into axioms and prove to be fundamentally true, surprisingly remain highly debatable and are still largely in question. Philosophy is very much about the question of certainty. To a great extent, from the epistemological perspective, knowledge is certainty (Harris, 2009). Just as the case is with Plato, whose quest for certainty has driven his metaphysics to take it, as a...

... It's true that people often act in ways that make you question their Christianity. And what about you? Have you ever committed some really serious sin that has caused you to wonder if you're going to make it into heaven? Have you backslidden from the Lord and can't seem to find your way back? Or are you searching for the truth and don’t know if Jesus Christ and Christianity is the right way to go. Well, I've got good news for you, and it has nothing to do with your car insurance. (Maybe a little to do with your fire insurance) Once you are biblically born again your eternal destination is sealed! You’re bound for Heaven and you're sure to get there! Which brings us to the all-important question; "So, I'm Born Again... NOW WHAT???" Well, here's the answer, the first thing we must understand is: Salvation Comes in Threes. There are three levels to salvation, each affecting a different part of your being at a different time in a different way. The Three Levels of Salvation are: (1) The Regeneration of the Spirit (2) The Restoration of the Soul (3) The Transfiguration of the Body In strictly biblical terms we call them: (1) Justification (2) Sanctification (3) Glorification 1st Corinthians 6:11 says, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” Romans 8:30 says, “Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also...
