...In my life generally music plays very significant role - makes it colorful. I have always enjoyed listening to sounds which calm me down and maintain positive emotions. Although jazz music has never been my biggest interest, after I started learning about it in class I began to wonder about phenomena of Jazz. Surprisingly I found out it made me bobbin my head and feel warm inside. The performance I attended was at B.B King Blues Club and Grill located on near Times Square. This neighborhood means you will be battling with pretty big crowd but the place was generally pleasant and accommodating. The band played in a style of Ornette Coleman, known as one of the major innovators of the free jazz movement of the 1960’s. The band consisted four saxophones (2 altos, 1 tenor, 1 baritone) two trombones, three trumpets and instruments for setting rhythm. It was beautiful to see it life, all together, performing so professionally. The pieces were easy to listen to which was unexpected to me. The two songs that caught my attention were “Lonely woman” from 1959 and “Dancing in your head” from 1988. In the song “Lonely woman” I noticed many improvisations and solos. The beginning of the song reminded me of Brass Band’s funeral march from New Olean’s style. On the other hand, in the song “Dancing in your head” I noticed that instruments were not playing together, but they were improvising. I believe this style might be called ‘cool jazz’, which we were introduce to on our last class...

...Civilization Day, by Ornette Coleman, was recorded September 9th, 1971. Coleman’s album Science Fiction consisted of a variety of songs that were very different, that included Civilization Day. Some important elements of what we’ve learned were evident in this song. The musicians combined collective improvisation with solo improvisation. He referred to this improvisational concept as harmolodics, a shortened form of the words harmony, melody, and motion. The alto sax, trumpet, and non-walking bass were used to create this piece in different parts of the song. Coleman has been criticized for playing out of tune, but this is one other way for Coleman to “play outside” which was what he aimed to do. The photo I chose to associate with Coleman’s song is one that represents chaos, crowd, and conjunction. It is a photograph that was taken on May Day in NYC in 2010. Thousands of workers and immigrant laborers took to the streets to celebrate May Day, demanding rights for those “who toil in the sun”. The message in Manhattan was delivered with bullhorns and drums. Their voices and fight were echoed by millions of workers around the world, from Havana to Berlin and Istanbul. The issues were the same: more jobs, better working conditions, higher wages and decent health care. In the photo, we can see an extremely crowded NYC street. There are so many people harboring the streets that it looks as thought there is no space to move. Similar to the photo, the music has beats and rhythms...

...First Impressions Tyler Gustafson ORG 300 Applying Leadership Principles Colorado State University – Global Campus Dr. Barbara-Leigh Tonelli March 19, 2014 First Impressions First impressions play a big role in determining the dynamic of a conversation or meeting. It is important for a person to be perceived as they have intended. Many people are quick to judge others just on their appearance alone, but ultimately the words and gestures people use in that first meeting are often what solidify your full impression of an individual. How you dress and carry yourself is big when it comes to first impressions. Someone in a suit and tie will come across as accomplished and educated. A person in baggy sweats or holy jeans may come across as a thug or someone of lower class. These are merely stereotypes and unfortunately this is how we often characterize a person at first. How someone dresses, though, is not necessarily who they are as a person. The man in a suit may have to wear that for work or just came from a wedding or funeral where as the man in baggy sweats may just be having a bad day or may be in desperate need of doing some laundry. What we wear may be that first indicator of how someone may perceive us, but it’s not the only aspect people use in determining someone as a whole on that first meeting. A persons gestures, posture, and tone of voice finalize your first impression. Relationships, whether professional, intimate, or casual, are built on communication...

...ROLE MODEL A role model is generally defined as a person who serves as an example of a positive behavior. The term “role model” was introduced by Robert K. Merton who said that individuals compare themselves with "reference groups" full of people who occupy the social role to which the individual aspires. Adults, parents, people in authority, people of influence, celebrities, are often idolized and looked up to by the people around them. Since by definition a role model has to exhibit positive behavior, only some of these people qualify as role models. Others serve as bad examples, which unfortunately can be just as influencing. It is a daunting responsibility to be viewed as a role model. Regardless of how one reaches the stature of being looked up to, the responsibility is the same. Role models are supposed to walk the talk. As Albert Schweitzer said, “example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.” I remember an advocacy campaign that focused on what we as adults show children. We litter and throw garbage even in areas with signs that say otherwise; and on our way to the mall with our family; we jaywalk as we cross the streets; we violate traffic rules, etc. Not unlike Aesop’s fable “the young thief and his mother”, we once saw a father alternating with his son to get packets of sugar and table napkin in a coffee shop. In a span of about half an hour, they must have made ten trips to the condiments station to fill a bag and...

He was then blessed by the old man the powers to carry it. After discovering that he can carry the mysterious barbell, he cleans it until it turned shiny and as if it wasn’t rusty. Touching it automatically summons the old guy who tells him that, by holding the barbell over his head and shouting the name “Captain Barbell”, he can transform into, Captain Barbell itself. A strong, muscular guy who can fly everywhere to help the ones in need. Soon after he discovered that he can transform into a supernatural human being, his first enemy rose. The fight finally finishes when Captain Barbell pinned him down into the...

...CHAPTER 2 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES Foreign literature This chapter presents the review of related literature and studies for both foreign and local underlying the framework of the study. Synthesis was also created based from the gathered information and facts in literature and studies. These studies will also the researchers and readers to understand their study more. This will give greater information about how laughter slows down aging. According to Adams (2005) Laughter is a healing activity. Laughter operates on at least three different levels. They are the biophysical, the biochemical, and the bioenergetic levels. At the biophysical level, laughter also moves lymph and oxygenates your organs. Laughter moves lymph fluid around your body simply by the convulsions you experience during the process of laughing; so it boosts immune system function and helps clear out old, dead waste products from organs and tissues. Remember that your lymph system doesn't have a separate pump; your body needs to move around to properly circulate lymph fluid so that your immune system can carry out its natural functions. Laughter is a great way to support that. Secondly, laughter increases oxygenation of your body at both the cellular and organ level. By laughing, you intake vast amounts of oxygen in huge gulps, and you repeat this process in a sort of temporary hyperventilation session. This is the natural result of laughter, and if you watch someone laugh, you...

Infosys, the software giant is one of the early movers in India to prepare the financial statements as per IFRS. This company has carved a niche in itself in good practices in financial reporting. Though India has missed the earlier deadline of converging to IFRS from April 2011, has shown its commitments to implement IFRs compliant accounting standards once few ambiguities are addressed to The main thrust of IFRS prepared by IASB (internal Accounting standard Board) is the “fair value accounting and detailed disclosures to make the financial statements more useful for the stakeholders. With the paradigm shift in the accounting standard there might be volatilities of the numbers reported. Right from the classification of assets, liabilities, equities until principle differences of asset valuations, revenue recognitions IFRS differ from existing GAAP. There were inquisitive analysts, accounting experts who would want to capture the transition difference of the two accounting standards. Hence, it will be of academic interest to study the difference between local GAAP and IFRS. This paper analyses the IFRS statement of Infosys from Financial year 2009 and makes comparisons with the Indian GAAP numbers. This study...
