* Explain the following: * What was the target/s? * Why was it selected? * What tactics were used? * What tools were used? * What were the expectations? * What were the outcomes of the events; e.g., media coverage, public acceptance, goals achieved? * What vulnerabilities were recognized and mitigated after the event? Or, were they?

What was the target/s? In 1993, a massive truck bomb ripped a hole almost 30 meters (100 feet) across the B-2 level of the parking garage beneath the World Trade Center's North Tower. The blast wave was so powerful that it penetrated five stories of the reinforced concrete building. In addition to causing structural damage, the explosion destroyed or heavily damaged hundreds of vehicles in the garage. That such a powerful explosion killed only six people is nothing short of a miracle, for the attackers had a goal of much more. On the morning of February 26th, 1993 World Trade Center was the target of a terrorist bombing when a truck bomb was detonated below the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The bomb was intended to knock the North Tower into the South Tower, bringing both towers down and killing thousands of people. It failed to do so, but did kill six people and injured 1,042. (history.com) The attack was planned by a group of conspirators including Ramzi Yousef, Mahmud Abouhalima, Mohammad Salameh, Nidal Ayyad, Abdul Rahman Yasin and Ahmad Ajaj. They received financing from Khaled Shaikh Mohammed, Yousef's uncle. In March 1994, four men were convicted of carrying out the bombing: Abouhalima,

Domestic Terrorism Significance

...Domestic Terrorism and Why It’s Significant September 11, 2001 was a very significant day for the U.S. It caused widespread panic and terror. There have been many, many acts of terrorism since that day, many of which are not committed by enemies to our country, but by citizens within. These acts of terrorism committed by people from our country are known as “Domestic Terrorism.” It is my belief that people should be educated on the matter and on the attacks so the general population can be aware of our situation rather than assuming everything bad is caused by Muslims from the middle east, because that’s racist. According to Google, Terrorism is defined as “the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.” Most people understand the concept, though some are unaware that terrorism can be further categorized by the origin of the attacks. International Terrorism is what most people are familiar with, these are attacks coming from outside of the country being attacks (U.S.A. in our case,) Domestic Terrorism are attacks coming from citizens within the country. They are both Terrorism and inherently bad, but they also are generally differentiated by motive. The F.B.I defines terrorism further by saying that it is an offense that Is calculated to influence or affect the conduct of government by intimidation or coercion, or to retaliate against government conduct. This is more informative...

Cause and Effects of Extremists Websites on Domestic Terrorism

...for this attack were not Al-Qaida terrorist trained in Yemen, but instead were two refugees who had legally emigrated here from border area of Russia and Chechnya. They were attending college and were seemingly assimilating into American life. Neither of the two men had ties to any terrorist group, but instead became self-radicalized through jihadist websites and learned how to construct improvised explosive devices on the internet; this has become a disturbing trend in domestic terrorism. Extremist’s websites have allowed Americans to become domestic terrorists, without any terrorism affiliation or training, through self-radicalization; teaching them how to construct weapons of mass destruction; and how to plan and conduct terrorist attacks. The persuasive techniques employed by extremist’s websites have been effective tools in the radicalization of Americans; the effects of these websites has been an increase of domestic terrorism plots and increase in the funding for terrorism. In the last six year ten domestic terror plots have been foiled and two have been successfully carried out. The would-be terrorists in all but one of these cases had become radicalized through viewing extremist’s websites and media reports about the wars...

The Growing Trend of Domestic Terrorism in the 21st Century

...The Growing Trend of Domestic Terrorism in the 21st Century On April 13, 2013, in Boston, MA our country found its self under yet another terrorist attack. The United States of America was founded under some of the same pretenses that many today would and do call terrorism. The methods and tactics used against the British by our founding fathers, soldiers and militia, do in many ways run parallel to what modern day terrorists are doing and have done to us, but yet they were labeled patriots. This country was founded on such mischievous tactics; maybe it is just karma, that terrorism is such a huge problem for us today. Throughout history, the U.S. has been under constant terrorist attack, a countless number of times, by a multitude of enemies either foreign or domestic. Since the beginning of the 21st Century, many different types of Terrorist attacks against the United States of America have significantly grown, which has caused a lot of fear and animosity among many Americans. A day that all Americans and most of the free world will never forget, September 11, 2001, the day that our country was crippled, people fell to their knees in prayer. 19 insane militants associated with the Islamic extremist group known as al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out terrifying suicide attacks against 3 targets located in the United States (history.com). These few similarities include what type of terrorists they were, how they picked their victims, and how they both felt deprived which is what lead them to terrorism. While these similarities are not exactly the same, one could argue that they are close enough to group these two terrorist attacks in the same category of terrorism. Terrorism

...Terrorism is the unlawful use of force or violence by a person or group. The goal is to intimidate or coerce societies or governments in an effort to promote political or ideological beliefs. These attacks can take many forms, and could happen at any time in any place. Terrorists typically exploit weaknesses, and may use technology, hazardous materials, biological agents or other methods to create devastating disruptions to the community. Terrorism thrives on fear. By planning how to respond to a terrorist attack, you can greatly improve your chances of survival. You can also lessen the impact of the attack by reducing the fear in the aftermath. Community Involvement As Chief of River City, my first priority would be to protect the citizens of River City. Attacks can be expected to provide maximum negative effect on the following levels: emotional, food, water, health, financial, infrastructure, leadership and the very function of society. Because it is impossible to know in advance which of these areas will be impacted most heavily in the event of a terrorist event, the best course of action is to make individual preparation in the areas where you are able to do so. For example, a supply of food that is easily stored means you aren't dependent upon stores that may or may not be available at the local supermarket. The same thing is true of a water supply. The citizens would be encouraged to stock up on bottled water. The Supply of bottled water could be crucial in the event...
