Domestic Violence: Factors Impacting Domestic Violence Research Study Critique
A form of behavior that is used to obtain control and power over an individual is known as “Domestic Partner Violence” and somewhere around the world at this very moment, an individual is being abused.
The perpetrator uses emotional and physical attacks, intimidation, and fear to gain control over their victim. Often victims will be left with bruises, cuts, and scars. The scars are not always physical, but those scars of mental, emotional, and spiritual, torture that often last a lifetime. Domestic Partner Violence affects individuals in a broad range of different backgrounds such as economic, racial, social, ethnic, and religious groups. Usually the perpetrator is not a stranger, but rather their husband, boyfriend, wife, girlfriend, mother or father. There is no discrimination as to the individuals relationship status, as to if they are married, divorced, separated, dating, or cohabitating, and includes all age groups of heterosexual or homosexual relationships. At the heart of a situation of domestic partner violence is one individual; man, woman, or child who is paying a heavy personal, social, spiritual, economic, and emotional cost. Domestic partner violence happens around the world and in most places is seen to be a form of criminal violence. The study of research presented for this critique will focus on and examine research methods of behaviors and results of these research studies or experiments. Also discussed will be causes of Domestic Partner Violence, the lethal and non-lethal violence inflicted on women, children, and men, and how seeing domestic partner violence in the home affects children growing up and as adults.
