Domestic Violence Shelters
Today in America we face a challenging crisis called Domestic Violence (DV). Everyday there is another case where a woman has been challenged by this issue. The rapid demand for domestic violence shelters has increased over the last years. Domestic violence shelters are used to help woman move on from violent situations and into a positive environment. Bethlehem Haven, is a non-profit organization that has many services to offer women to help them start fresh. Over the last few years the need for DV shelters has almost doubled. The process to join a DV shelter will have a significant impact on a woman’s life and benefits are endless.

Census
In 2013 NNEDV had a count for both women and children that were victims of domestic violence. This census documented all the number of both children that were affected by domestic violence in a 24-hour period. During this documentation the noted the types of services that were requested and successfully fulfilled and also the unmet requests. According to DV counts in 2013, 2424 victims were served in one day, 1168 domestic violence victims (618 children and 550 adults). Out of the 2424 victims that were affected by this crisis 1259 weren’t in need of shelter but were taken to receive counseling and legal advice. The children were also referred to programs to help them cope with the situation.
Unfortunately not all requests for assistance can be met. 60% of victims end up back with their abusers the other 40% are forced to live either in the streets or in their vehicles (nnedv.org, 2013). In 2013 there was a large number of unmet requests for assistance; 364 in just one day. NNEDV (2013) states that “On September 17, 2013 60 out of 60 (100%) of identified local domestic violence programs in Pennsylvania participated in the 213 National

Domestic Violence

...| Domestic Violence | | | Veronica Crews | DeVry University | | INTRODUCTION Do the problems with our economy have any effect on the increasing number of domestic violence reportings? Money problems are always a risk factor in relationships. Due to the downfall of job losses, the falling of the financial markets, and foreclosed homes, there has been more tension in homes. As a result, organizations that deal with domestic violence and substance abuse are bracing for more demand for their services, even as the recession is forcing some to cut budgets and lay off their own personnel. Although an economic downturn itself does not cause domestic violence, it can increase the factors that contribute to domestic violence and reduce victim's ability to leave. (Kalson, 2008). According to the National Network to End Domestic Violence 24-hour census, “the economic climate may give batterers additional leverage when using emotional and financial abuse to control their partners” (Feb. 2009). Domestic abuse occurs when one person in an intimate relationship or marriage tries to dominate and control the other person. Domestic abuse that includes physical violence is called domestic violence. Domestic violence and abuse are used for one purpose and one purpose only: to gain and maintain control over someone. The abuser doesn’t play fair. They use intimidation, fear, shame, and guilt to wear someone down and keep that person under his or her thumb. The abuser...

First of all, in regards to LGBTQI relationship violence, there is not a vast amount of intervention strategies directly aimed at the LGBTQI population. Bernice grew up in a troubled home where neither of her parents set an example for Bernice or her siblings, which every good parent would want to set for their kids. In this analysis, the public resources available in Walla Walla, WA, will be connected to Bernice’s situation. This analysis will relate several situations in which Bernice could have used the resources from this town, and how she could have been helped. Although these institutions aim to help battered women, and their children, they offer many services but by no means are they perfect. As long as men view woman and children as property, he will use violence as a form of control. In the past society turned their heads on domestic violence because it was not considered a crime. All through history the regulations and rights related to this control have been codified by both civil and religious laws. In the 1800 BC, the Code of Hammurabi states that was subservient to the man and he could inflict punishment anyone in household for any wrong doings (“Overview of Historical Laws That Supported Domestic Violence”). According to the Roman Code of Paterfamilias it says if a man should discover your wife committing adultery the husband may with permission put her to death with no trial, but if he catches him in same predicament she cannot do anything about it.without trial. It was seen in Bradley v. State of Mississippi, 1824 (“Under The Rule Of Thumb”) . Not to long ago in 1977 the California Penal Code said That in order for women to press battery on their husbands they would have to have sustained more injuries then the usual battery charges. Domestic Volence

...DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: AN OVERVIEW WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE? What is domestic violence, and why does it persist? Domestic violence, partner abuse, battering, family violence, and wife beating refer to abuse committed by one adult against another with whom the abuser has or has had an intimate or romantic relationship. Most domestic violence is committed by men against women. According to the Department of Justice, women are victims of domestic violence eleven times more often then men. Although, some sources suggest that women use violence against males as frequently as men do against female partner, most evidence shows that the violence inflicted by men is much more severe. Domestic violence includes physical, sexual, and emotional acts of violence and abuse. Physical abuse usually involves the intent of causing harm or injury to the victim. It can take the form of slapping, punching, throwing the victim down or into the walls and objects, tripping, biting, kicking, or twisting arms and legs. It may involve life-threatening behavior such as choking, stabbing, burning, attempting to drown, or shooting with a gun. They offer many services such as, counseling, emergency domestic violence shelters, as well as legal and counseling services for those affected by rape, domestic violence, and elder abuse. This agency also focuses on prevention by providing programs to promote healthy relationships in local schools and community groups. One interesting I learned is that center for community solutions operates the only rape crisis center in the city of San Diego along with a countywide 24-hour bilingual crisis helpline. Another interesting fact about this agency is that they are one of nine agencies in the nation funded by the Office of Violence Against Women to expand countywide training on elder abuse; this implemented elder abuse training throughout San Diego YWCA: Becky's House (in San Diego) Beckys house is an agency for women and children escaping domestic violence.
