...pretty interesting. I have enjoyed the freedom, my coursework, and all the new friends I’ve made. When I first started college, I wasn’t excited at all. I just knew that the work wasn’t going to be as difficult as a university and I basically saw the whole idea as a joke. I see now that everything I thought about the school was just a simple minded. Not only is this the same environment as a university but they have the same type of activities as well. I have not a doubt in my mind that going to a junior college prior to attending a university will set me up for the utmost success. My first year at TCC was an eye opening experience of what college life was really going to be like. There was so much more freedom than in high school. When you have to use the restroom or make a phone call, permission is not needed, everything is on your time. When you miss a class, nobody is going to call your mother or give her an update on how your classes are going. As a matter of fact, I soon found out that your parents aren’t even allowed access to your grades unless granted permission by you. I believe this is right around the time I started loving college life. If you party all night and don’t feel like going to class the next day, you don’t have to, but it is still your responsibility to get your work. This has bought me to my next subject, responsibility. Unlike high school, teachers do not care if you pass or fail, they do not care if you don’t come to class, or about your excuses on why your...

...Science to Nursing. Let me explain or better yet take you down the path of my college journey of majors. Before coming to this University, I set up goals into becoming a Dermatologist. I was very adamant about it, passion was at an all time high and knew everything I was supposed to do with help of a mentor. I was enrolled my freshman year as a Biology major. As you’ve heard, medical is really competitive and expensive so undergraduate grades must be in tip-top shape. With a semester of heart retching C’s, dreaded B’s, analysis of my work ethic and distractions I realized that I probably wouldn’t be able to handle the coursework Biology had to offer, my passion and drive was no longer sufficing. I indefinitely just wanted to appreciate my major and actually love it. Going into my second year, my desired course of major was Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Physical Therapy. The summer of 2014, the summer before my sophomore year here at Texas State, I went through a phase where I went to the gym or worked out any chance that I got. My body was my drawing board and I was in control of how I wanted it to look, not exactly feel and I liked that feeling. My body begun the chance intensely which developed my interest in bodily movements, acceleration and function. I also worked with my dad who is a Physical Therapist. The patience, carefulness and grace that the Physical Therapist’s had working on their patient’s really intrigued me so I looked up to them....

...Dear Records, I am writing this letter requesting an appeal to the administrative withdraw for this term. Please reconsider withdrawing my student status. I have unfortunately not passed my xxxx course leaving me with zero units in my term. I take full responsibility for my current student status. In this term, creating and maintaining an effective time management plan has been a big problem for me. For the first half of the term, I struggled with adjusting to my new position at work. Previously, I held a part-time position. However, with the enactment of new health laws, my position as a part-time employee limited myself to work under 28 hours, which did not create a livable wage for me. My employer offered limited full-time spots to select employees. I was chosen as one, which was something I couldn’t refuse since it offered a higher wage and health insurance. As such, this was a huge adjustment, as I had to re-think how and when I would utilize my study time. Algebra has always been a struggle for me, or all math for that matter. It is a very intimidating subject for me. Nevertheless, I continued with the lesson plans, but truly felt as I was not retaining any of the information. The class load I accepted with having both Algebra and statistics gave me huge anxiety. After discussing this a little bit with my mentor, xxxx, we decided to focus on xxx instead. At first, I took the pre-assessment to see what areas I would need to focus on. I studied and read the chapters...

...REFLECTION ESSAY Reading and writing do not come easy to me. It’s not that I don’t read well; it’s difficult to find material that interests me. As for writing, I write how I speak, so I don’t think I’m very good at it. Although, because The Norton Reader has such a variety of essays, I found it much easier to appreciate and understand than most books referred to me by friends and family. I chose to read the following * “On Dumpster Diving” by Lars Eighner, because I saw a documentary a few years ago called “Dive!” and wanted to understand the reasons of why people do it. Is it because they are experimenting (for a documentary) or because they have no other choice? * “On Keeping a Notebook” by Joan Didion, because I kept a journal when I was young and I’d like to start again. I thought maybe this essay would give me some tips on doing so. * “Once More to the Lake” by E.B. White, because I thought it would be a good read. The challenges I found were few. My biggest issue was my kids. With college starting one week before the rest of the Northwest, entertaining my twin, 7 year-old boys, in their last week of summer, and managing coursework for three classes, was a huge challenge. Even with them entertaining themselves was a huge distraction because of all the noise they make, indoors and out. Noise reducing headphones seemed to do the trick, but then I constantly worried about what mischief they could be getting themselves into. I also found it difficult to...

...the image of God. When I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior at the age of 15 I started to learn more about what the Word of God said about this subject. It wasn’t until I was in my 30’s that I took the time to get active in study groups and spend time in the Bible that I really understood and believed that we were all created in the image of God. Genesis 1:26-27 is the first time the phrase is used and it is only referenced 3 times in the Hebrew Bible yet the New Testament is foundational in the fact that Jesus is the image of God. The image of God is a reflection of the qualities that Jesus explemplified while he here on earth to his disciples and others; abundant in love, full of patience, kind to others, merciful to sinners, a humble servant, and forgiving even to his killers. I believe that we are all created in His image and that we are to all strive to explemfy these same traits as He lives in us. EXAMPLE 1: Working in international transportation I deal with many different cultures that look upon Americans as imperialist and arrogant. This is something that I strive daily to overcome not just with external customers but also with internal customers from various departments that have moved to Chicago from all over the world. Although the trait of humility was never my strong suit growing up I have learned to humble myself and allow God to lead so that others will see Christ in me. Throughout Scripture Jesus teaches us to be servants and to be humble. Philippians...

...similar interests. As for me, I was constructively forced out of my old group of friends who served as my comfort zone for the first two years of high school. Based on this experience, I firmly believe that people should be more receptive and open to new people who are culturally and ethnically diverse. Such experiences and people exist outside of our comfort zones a comfort zone is self-limiting and stagnant, causing us to miss out on enriching opportunities which are only available to those who extend themselves. Ultimately, I had to put myself out “there” to meet new people. As a consequence, I also tried new things and activities that my new friends embraced as their interests. My first experience of being thrown out of my comfort zone simmered and then escalated through my sophomore year of high school. Many of my friends in freshman year had started to experiment, with little thought or consequences with boys, lifestyle choices, or unhealthy substances. For them, it was the “cool” thing to care more about revealing outfits, alcohol, parties, or dating rather than their families, academics, or the well-being of their friends. That was simply not me. None of my friends had the willpower to admit their risky behaviors, embracing peer pressure in their new group and new comfort zone of running with the in-crowd. However, they simply replaced one comfort zone for another riskier one with potentially severe consequences. This had little appeal for me. I considered myself...

...just a record of ‘What you have done’ but a record of what you have learnt, tried and critically reflected upon. For example in your learning log you could include details of what you did or how you did something and your reflections on this. Becoming a good self-critical reflector is not easy to do. You will probably not become a critical self reflector overnight, and it is a skill that some people seem to be able to do easily, whereas others, particularly people used to a more didactic or directive teaching style, find quite difficult. It often requires time to become comfortable with self reflection. Sometimes it feels uncomfortable reflecting upon your experience(s) and abilities and you may feel that you don’t know whether you are doing it properly. Don’t worry, just practice, or as Nike say ‘just do it’. With practice it becomes easier and you will be more comfortable with the...

Having passed this act it also helps the United States as a whole because its a chance to contribute back to the country that has given so much to them. The Dream Act may help out a lot of undocumented students but not every undocumented student can qualify to obtain it. Certain regulations and requirements have to be met in order to get his/her process started. I say this because the student must have been here since they were sixteen years of age or younger and had to be in the united states before the act passed for five consecutive years. First a student must be undocumented like I said before then they must meet the AB 540 qualifications. You must have had attended high school for a Mata 2 ! minimum of three years or have achieved credits equivalent to or three more years of high school coursework. ...When Technology Meets the Classroom: Multiple Technologies and the Development of a Rhet 105 Learning Environment The University of Illinois has been preparing students for the the next step in their lives since 1867. Initially our group set out to discover how the university is trying to keep up with changing technologies in and out of the classroom. We decided to narrow our focus and take a closer look at the technologies utilized in a Rhet 105 classroom at the University of Illinois. However, before we could assess the technologies in play, we first had to establish what the goals of Rhet 105 are. To get our initial information concerning the goals of Rhet 105 we interviewed a Rhet 105 professor. We then decided to take a look at research that has already been done regarding the technologies that the Rhet 105 instructor is using. After establishing what the goals of Rhet 105 are we proceeded to try to learn what techniques the instructor implemented to try to accomplish these goals. In addition to asking the professor what techniques he used to accomplish these goals, our group observed the classroom first hand. After observing the class, we looked at how Rhet 105 students reacted to the professor’s goals and techniques by doing a student survey as well as two student interviews. First, our group interviewed a Rhet 105 to gather information about the goals for Rhet 105 and how he is trying to accomplish them. We chose to interview an instructor who has been teaching...

The new computers represent a large investment the company cannot afford to underutilize. Since installation of the computers, Rainyday has experienced a number of problems with voluntary turnover among claims processors as well as decreased productivity and increased errors. Recently, the CEO of Rainyday, Rebecca Stephens, hired you as consultant to determine what, if any, training needs the claims processors have. There are 85 processors in the claims department. On the first day you talked with several employees in the claims department. Fran, one of the more senior claims processor, has been with the company since it started eight years ago. ...taken as contingent upon the government towards the men and woman that are enjoying the gifts of being recognized for who they are, able to speak their mind, and be praised and coveted for staying true to themselves. What many Americans that are tried and true in their service to this country are aware of now is that the liberties and freedoms that constitute their good and bad days were earned by the even worse days that veterans have endured to ensure that their kids and grandkids, as well as their friends, their peers, their lovers, and their kids and grandkids of those who would never care for them to see a brighter future. There really isn’t much of a better way to describe what their ordeals have done for the rest of us. When I started my junior year of high school, our class had a new social studies teacher. Last year, while I was a sophomore, we wished the best of luck to our last social studies teacher as he and his family flew to New York for a better life. As a veteran, fighting in Iraq and losing friends and later family in his life, our new social studies teacher turned out to be a living example of the sacrifices a veteran has to make on behalf of his students, along with his wife and three kids. Now, he enjoys the pleasures of teaching and making the lives of his students greater and more fulfilling during class, and dreams of being a principal someday. I feel awed and inspired to be around...

Does anybody care about the topic you have in mind? If you have a topic in mind you might ask yourself these questions: --Does it suit your interests and possible career objectives? --Does it fit your background and experience? --Are you willing to commit the next 6 months (or longer) researching the topic? --What do you already know about it? --Do you believe your findings will be of interest or benefit to anyone else? One professor adds this thought regarding topic selection: "Don't hesitate to go back to THE BASICS and review some of the issues and controversies from previous coursework. In essence, you must review the literature on your proposed topic BEFORE...

...break with peak winter and when it came down to the selection of subjects, I straight away took the leadership management coursework thinking of nothing more then what dad has always told me as a kid, “Kalyan, being a leader doesn’t mean you have to be ahead of people and lead them alone, it means that you have to lead them in a way that the people think about you as a leader as long as they are alive. Legacy, Kalyan is the quality which determines the leaders in people. When you do something for the people in your walk of life, do it in an exceptional way that they will not forget what you have done for them and at the same time do not expect anything from them.” These words were very inspiring for me as a kid and these are the words followed by hundreds and thousands of students over 40 years of experience from a teacher whose values and principles are very particular. I’ve seen him change and mould the careers of many kids over the years with this inspiration and build an empire for himself with this burning desire for leaving a legacy behind. I’ve never understood the value of anything when I was a teenager, the reason was my dad, he was behind me without me noticing him. He was my shadow, my strength and the greatest support I have in my life. When this class of leadership had started and in the very first week of the class when the professor started asking the class about the different leaders and who is the most inspirational leader in one’s own life, I just had a flash...
