To witness propaganda at its finest and most obvious, look no further than the ongoing Presidential campaign. Through different means and methods, the forces of propaganda is felt as candidates (or propagandists) battle for their end goal—to become the President of the United States. Following the campaign will expose a person to a wide range of propaganda techniques as the candidates struggle to gain the support of Americans. These techniques are varied as candidates strategize the most effective way to appeal to their target audience. Democratic and Republicans have specific states they know to target, as the majority of the population in those states will identify with one or the other of the political parties. Thus, depending on which …show more content…
It is a simple principle of psychology to relate to the people and evoke an emotional appeal that has positive and desirable effects. Donald Trump’s policies leave much to be asked for and he has been commonly laughed at since the beginning of the campaign, but he continues to be effective and persuasive nonetheless. He is the epitome of a demagogue, benefitting from people’s fears and prejudices. Although with varying success, he and other candidates carefully create their own brand, their own image, with the purpose in mind that when their name is heard it is immediately associated with their intended result, whether it be “freedom” or their “no nonsense” type of attitude. Everything is being meticulously thought-out to ensure achieving their goal and it is reflective in their smiles, body language, advertisements, slogans, posters, etc. If people removed themselves from the spell of their charisma, their rehearsed rhetoric, their catchy slogans, and took a deeper look behind their smiles and tactics, they would be less susceptible and more …show more content…
Through public or self-education, the cultivation of a person's natural intellectual abilities must occur so that they will become independent thinkers. No one’s potential is ever recognized if not for proper direction and guidance. More important than anything is teaching people how to critically and rationally, and this should be more actively taught in schools. There should be classes informing people from the time they are children on how to analyze the media, not fall into the pitfalls of logical fallacies, and recognize when they are being manipulated. People should not be discouraged by the knowledge of their own vulnerabilities; on the contrary, it is through the recognition of these shortcomings that people can mitigate the potential negative effects. The active awareness and knowledge of the psychological engineering that is inflicted against them means that people can make a conscious effort into recognizing this manipulation and therefore begin the next step of countering it. The culture needs to shift, the proliferation of ideas has to change course to a more positive direction where people are empowered and the power of working together is more greatly emphasized. There is so much potential for good, but the public needs direction and education for it to be fully

...Wearing a Mask: Analysis of Rhetorical Devices Used in 1984 and 2016 Presidential Elections     In the novel 1984, George Orwell illustrates the life of a man named Winston Smith in a dystopian society. Although the government, known as the Party, in the novel certainly differs from our government today. Some of the rhetoric the novel uses have connections with those used by our major presidential candidates, Donald Trump and HiIlary Clinton. Many times, the ways that the public interprets the government’s and candidates’ actions may contrast from what they are truly saying or doing. The various strategies used by the Party and mirrored with Clinton and Trump implore that the voters take notice of these differences.     Firstly, the ways the...

Rhetorical Analysis Of I Have A Dream Speech

...execution. I thought it was normal. I rationalised the execution as punishment for betraying the Great Leader. Everything in North Korea is about unwavering loyalty to the Great Leader. Every novel. Every newspaper. Every movie. Every podcast. Every form of public information is dominated by one topic – the Great Leader. Roads are named after him, slogans praise him, and posters of him are displayed in every school. As human beings we believe what we are taught. We submit to authority and rarely question societal values. We accept what we see and hear as the ‘truth’. We fail to think critically about our nation’s ideology. Today I address you as a North Korean defector. I urge you to question societal belief systems. Your leader, Donald Trump, recently spoke about the ‘cruel dictatorship in North Korea’. His admonition towards North Korea reflected existing perceptions, with 51% of all Americans considering North...

Common Core Education Viewpoints

...opposition from America’s right can be found in an article by Caitlin Dickson, a writer from DailyBeast.com titled “The Wingnut War On Common Core Is A Plot To Destroy Public Schools”. She points to several items by the non-profit Southern Poverty Law Center as one of the loudest and angriest voices against CCSS. The SPLC suggests that the campaign against Common Core is growing in tandem with attacks against the public school system as a whole, with the Christian right using the current controversy as an excuse to “reignite decades-old battles against evolution, school prayer, sex-education and, more recently, efforts to stop LGBT bullying” (Dickson) “From a historical perspective, the Common Core is just the latest bogeyman in a fierce propaganda and political war being waged against the very concept of providing a publicly funded, secular education to every child,” the report’s authors write. Another claim by America’s conservatives in the debate about CCSS is from the 2012 presidential election campaigns. Evidence “Major sections of the article open with the question what would it mean to end the U.S. Department of Education focusing in on several Republican candidates. This is key since the two then frontrunners Romney – wanted federal government out of education, but lauded Race To The Top under Obama. Gingrich believed reform should fall to school boards and local, state, county and governorships. This shows that hopeful conservative leaders continued to follow the party...

PREFACE Rationale We agreed to produce the instructor’s manual for the sixth edition of A First Look at Communication Theory because it’s a first-rate book and because we enjoy talking and writing about pedagogy. Yet when we recall the discussions we’ve had with colleagues about instructor’s manuals over the years, two unnerving comments stick with us: “I don’t find them much help”; and (even worse) “I never look at them.” And, if the truth be told, we were often the people making such points! With these statements in mind, we have done some serious soul-searching about the texts that so many teachers—ourselves...

Bloodlines of the Illuminati

...Bloodlines of Illuminati by: Fritz Springmeier, 1995 Introduction: I am pleased & honored to present this book to those in the world who love the truth. This is a book for lovers of the Truth. This is a book for those who are already familiar with my past writings. An Illuminati Grand Master once said that the world is a stage and we are all actors. Of course this was not an original thought, but it certainly is a way of describing the Illuminati view of how the world works. The people of the world are an audience to which the Illuminati entertain with propaganda. Just one of the thousands of recent examples of this type of acting done for the public was President Bill Clinton’s 1995 State of the Union address. The speech was designed to push all of the warm fuzzy buttons of his listening audience that he could. All the green lights for acceptance were systematically pushed by the President’s speech with the help of a controlled congressional audience. The truth on the other hand doesn’t always tickle the ear and warm the ego of its listeners. The light of truth in this book will be too bright for some people who will want to return to the safe comfort of their darkness. I am not a conspiracy theorist. I deal with real facts, not theory. Some of the people I write about, I have met. Some of the people I expose are alive and very dangerous. The darkness has never liked the light. Yet, many of the secrets of the Illuminati are locked up tightly simply because secrecy is a way...
