A Google Doodle is a temporary change to Google's homepage logo to recognize holidays, people, achievements and other special events.
The first Google Doodle appeared in 1998 to commemorate the Burning Man festival and was designed by Google cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page. New doodles were designed by contractors outside for the company until 2000, when PR officer Dennis Hwang created a new doodle in honor of Bastille Day. Afterwards, Google established their own in-house team known as Doodlers to create the doodles for special occasions. They've become increasingly common and complex in recent years, with a January 2010 doodle of Sir Isaac Newton being the first animated one.
