Rhetoric is the use of language and literary devices that manipulate written works to aid in persuasion.
Double speaks is language used to evade responsibility, to make the unpleasant appear pleasant; it is language that pretends to communicate but does not effectively communicate.
When doublespeak is used, it is almost always understood by the reader that they are using it. Therefore, those who use doublespeak are smart, witty, intelligent and sophisticated in the use of language enough to use words to manipulate the persecution of their audience.
In Lutz’s example, he references Thucydides who, during his time, reflected the Peloponnesian war to significantly alter the perception of events. It was recognized that actions and their connotation …show more content…
Knowledge of wehn doublespeak is used aids in the intellectual competence of an individual as their ability to communicate (speak and listen) expands.
Doublespeak often misleads and manipulates the original message which inherently inhibits the ability to further conversation and ideas between audiences and speakers, coherently. That instance would severely impact social and political institutions with our democratic country; the democratic behavior (actively participating in our country) would decrease as a line would be set up between people in power and their citizens. Doublespeak, on a large scale, and used in the wrong professions, would ultimately lead to the destruction of the American government and society.
For citizens who claim that they are aware of the use of doublespeak used by politicians, a sense of cynicism is derived from that knowledge. The use and integration of doublespeak may shy off a portion of democracy based on the helplessness and uselessness that citizens may feel, as a result of prolonged use of

Communtication

...1.1 *** introduction to the course Communication Notion The subject of communication is a fundamental one for business communication, because that is exactly the purpose, and the central concept. “Communication” goes from the lat. communication – message, transmission; communicare – to make common, to link, and to talk. The term communication is used for description of diverse processes, connected with information transmission, and for the verification of presence or absence of a relation between two subjects (systems). COMMUNICATION – the exchange of meanings between individuals through a common system of symbols. The subject of communication has concerned scholars since the time of ancient Greece. Until modern times, however, the topic was usually subsumed under other disciplines and taken for granted as a natural process inherent to each. In 1928 the English literary critic and author I.A. Richards offered one of the first--and in some ways still the best--definitions of communication as a discrete aspect of human enterprise: Communication takes place when one mind so acts upon its environment that another mind is influenced, and in that other mind an experience occurs which is like the experience in the first mind, and is caused in part by that experience. Richards' definition is both general and rough, but its application to nearly all kinds of communication--including those between humans and animals (but excluding machines)--separated...

...C h a p t e r 1 Prewriting GETTING STARTED (OR SOUP-CAN LABELS CAN BE FASCINATING) For many writers, getting started is the hardest part. You may have noticed that when it is time to begin a writing assignment, you suddenly develop an enormous desire to straighten your books, water your plants, or sharpen your pencils for the fifth time. If this situation sounds familiar, you may find it reassuring to know that many professionals undergo these same strange compulsions before they begin writing. Jean Kerr, author of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories. To spare you as much hand-wringing as possible, this chapter presents some practical suggestions on how to begin writing your short essay. Although all writers must find the methods that work best for them, you may find some of the following ideas helpful. But no matter how you actually begin putting words on paper, it is absolutely essential to maintain two basic ideas concerning your writing task. Before you write a single sentence, you should always remind yourself that 1. You have some valuable ideas to tell your reader,...
