Just-in-Time (JIT) manufacturing is process where manufacturer only receive goods where they are needed in the process. This system increases efficiency and decrease waste. This process works for any size company. When focusing on how this system works for a small company, we can focus on Gamblin Artist's Oil Colors. This is a small company that manufactures small oil-paint (Applegate, 2001). One way that Gamblin uses JIT is by making small batched of paint to put on the shelves (Applegate, 2001). In the past they use to make 1200 batch of pant which would sit on their shelves for 6 months (Applegate, 2001). Now they only make 500 (Applegate, 2001). This use of JIT helps them decreases their cost of material (Applegate, 2001). Improving quality is another way Gamblin use JIT. Because there is less product to focuses on in the manufacturing process, Gamblin can focus on quality more. Last, JIT heped Gamblin inprove efficiency. They are able to quickly complete the manufacturing process because they are focusing on less product. I feel as if Gamblin true shows how JIT benefits a company. It can quickly show a return in income, provid small businesses with an opprotunity to use less money, and improve efficiency of a company. JIT can provide these same benefit for a service company but it focuses on the products need for the service. For example in a house cleaning business, a company using JIT would focus on purchasing less cleaning products and only buy as they need them.
