On November 2nd I attended the Count Dragula’s Halloween Extravaganza with two of my friends. This event was hosted by the Lambda Alliance and the LGBT Resource Center. All of the money raised from this event was donated back to the Lambda Alliance. This event was a Halloween themed drag show hosted by Jacqueline Daniels. This show included monologues by students such as, Where the Wild Things Are, and performances of songs written by students. Following these performances, several drag queens and kings walked the stage and entertained the crowed with extravagant costumes in order to raise tips. Drag queens are men who dress up in women’s clothes and makeup, for the purpose of entertainment. Similarly, drag kings are women who dress up and personify a male for entertainment purposes. The show was very lively with constant audience involvement weather it was cheering and screaming, or making sure Jacqueline Daniels didn’t cross a line where the microphone would break.…show more content… However similar to when the Lambda Alliance came to our class, Jacqueline Daniels introduced herself as she/her when she first walked out on stage. I now see the importance of this act because it clarifies all confusion when meeting a new person, without giving time for a person to ask awkward questions. This was the first LGBTQ event I’ve attended in my life. Although I did not know what to expect, I was very entertained, found myself laughing at all of the jokes, and gained a greater appreciation for drag. I will say some of the jokes Jaqueline Daniels said made me slightly uncomfortable because she was so comfortable and open talking about genitals.
