...asked by human kind since forever… is “are we alone?” Are we alone in this star system, our galaxy, the whole universe? And if we are not alone, then why hasn’t an intelligent alien species revealed themselves to us (every human). Assuming that almost every possible life bearing planet has had at least a few billion years to evolve and progress technologically. Now, getting back to the question “are we alone?”, personally, I doubt that we are alone, and here’s why. The drake equation. The drake equation is an equation (obviously), that was created by a man named Frank Drake back in the 1960’s. And what this equation tries to solve is the amount of intelligent extra-terrestrial civilizations in the milky way galaxy (our home galaxy at the moment). More specifically, it “Identifies specific factors thought to play a role in the development of such civilizations. Although there is no unique solution to this equation, it is a generally accepted tool used by the scientific community to examine these factors.” --Frank Drake, 1961....

...Carl Sagan's novel Contact is about a girl named Ellie who has a deep passion for astronomy. Her passion for Science comes from her Father who only encourages her to explore more into the universe. Ellie always believed there to be extraterrestrial life and worked throughout her life to discover it. People don't understand her or believe her determination to find what she's looking for. Until the day she received contact from a star known as Vega and is soon to physically experience this journey for herself. In Contact, Sagan's message is received through the different parts that occur in the book although, in the movie many parts were left out getting away from the point of the idea. In the novel Ellie's father died when she was 10 but her mother was still alive. Ellie's mother soon found a new husband, who wasn't very encouraging to Ellie. Ellie's step-father always told her to not seem so smart since she was a girl in order for her to make more friends and to attend these different schools. This is a big part in the message because Ellie proved him wrong by her discoveries even if she was a girl. In the film, Ellie didn't exactly have any push to prove her full ability, there was no person telling her what to do. She simply did it for her passion as well as she did it in the novel but there was more of a personal determination for it. Her mother was a a huge factor because it showed more of who Ellie was and to help her realize how much time she was putting into this...

...1. Assuming scientists came in to radio contact with some type of ETI in 2037 and I was personally offered to answer one question from humankind, being a staff member of the United Nations. If to be true, I would ask, “In terms of environmental stability and living, how does your planetary system and biology functions function?” This is an important question for an ETI because it can bring light into the difference habitats compared to Earth. Comparing the two environments may open ways in improving our environment. 2. In my opinion, the single most serious threat to the survival of humankind over the next two centuries is the true to be told fact that life on Earth is growing rapidly, and resulting overpopulation. It is important for us humans to relieve the shortage of natural resources, such as gas and oil. As we might already know, our economy and lifestyles are really dependent on the two. With limited resources, makes life on Earth quite more serious. As time goes, humans must solve this problem before larger problems result the issue. 3. The Fermi Paradox states, “if civilizations are all common, then the galaxy should have been colonized long ago” (Bennett 454). However, one may argue the that the solution to Fermi Paradox is “we are alone and there is no galactic civilization because civilizations are extremely rare- so rare that ours is the first to have arisen on the galactic scene” (Bennett 454) Works Cited * Bennett, Jeffrey O., G. ...Science is defined as “the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment (Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary, n.d.).” Science may have been, is, or will be a part of someone’s life. Personally, science always has been, is, and will be not only a part of my life, but my life itself. My interest in science came from my experiences with animals from as early as I can remember. Something interesting that I have learned about science in my time at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School is that it is limitless; or as once stated by Carl Sagan, “Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” Science fits into my future goals absolutely. My interest in science came from my experiences with animals from as early as I can remember. To this day I have had practically every pet available at pet retail stores, as popular as my first pet; a cat, to as exotic as my current pets; a miniature macaw, a ball python, a house gecko, and more. Because my interest in science came from my experiences with animals from as early as I can remember, science always has been, is, and will be not only a part of my life, but my life itself. Something interesting that I have learned about science in my time at Whitney M. ...Aubrey Drake Graham born October 24, 1986 in Toronto, Ontario, who records under Drake. He is a Canadian recording artist, rapper, and songwriter. Drake started off playing Jimmy Brooks on the television series Degrassi. After that career was done he later rose as a rapper, after releasing a couple of mixtapes before signing with Young Money Entertainment (Kellman). For one Drake is one of my all time favorite music artists. He motivates me and puts me in a positive attitude with his original lyrics. The song “Successful” in the album So Far Gone and Ready sticks out as one of my favorite songs record by Drake. He pushes past the dilemmas in his life and all the dislike everybody throws at him but still does what he wants to do. Compared to other rappers, Drake has by far the most meaning in every song he produces. Drake has a music style that isn’t like any other; most of his lyricism is in regard to being rich and famous and also past relationships with strippers. “Drake's sound is labeled as "soft" for his genuine, forgiving lyrics and expressive melody.” (Lester). What is another thing that sets him apart from the rest is he has a wide vocabulary in his rhymes that he produces; you can tell that he is very high educated. From the album Take Care I can sing every song on that album because you can understand Drake when he raps. “Drake has a unique musical style that has set him apart from his Young Money counterparts, especially in his latest effort album “Take Care” (Markman)...

He began making music and eventually released his first mixtape, Room for Improvement, in 2006. The next year he came out with another mixtape called Comeback Season. His music career was going in the right direction but wasn’t that good yet. “In 2008, the producers of Degrassi overhauled the cast, eliminating Drake's character” (Profile). Without his acting job and not making substantial amount of money as rapper, Drake was on the brink of looking for a job. "I was coming to terms with the fact that ... ...Zenja Jones Eng101 – Smith 2 Nov 2015 Jungle The most significant thing I’ve read does not come from a book, a magazine, or a blog. It comes from a hip-hop song. The song was made by a Canadian rapper, turned singer, named Aubrey Graham. He is well known as Drake in the music industry. The song I am referring to is called ‘Jungle.’ There is one lyric in particular that caught my attention and stuck with me. The lyric itself personally inspires me to be my best and encourages me to keep moving toward success. The song is fairly new. It was released in February of 2015, along with seventeen other songs, on Drake’s album ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.’ This is his fourth commercial released album. It was randomly available on iTunes on the thirteenth of February. The album has been very successful, as well as his others. The album debuted as number one on the Canadian Albums Chart and the Billboard 200. Because of ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late,’ Drake became the first rapper to top Billboard’s Artist 100 chart. Jungle has the third most plays out of the whole album. Drake has always been one of my favorite artists to listen to. I feel his music is more relatable than others. Jungle really grabbed ahold of my mind and wedged itself in there, continuously playing even when I’m not listening to the actual song. It loops the same part of the song over and over again when I’m in apposition of giving up. It is a rather emotional song though. The meaning of the...

You have recently found a location for your bakery and have begun implementing the first phases of your business plan. Your budget consists of an $80,000 loan from your family and a $38,250 small business loan. These loans must be repaid in full within 10 years. a) What integer would represent your total budget? The integer is 118,250 b) Twenty-five percent of your budget will be used to rent business space and pay for utilities. Write an algebraic expression that indicates how much money will be spent on business space and utilities. Do not solve. .25(118,250)=u c) How much money will rent and utilities cost? Explain how you arrived at this answer. I solved this problem by converting 25% into a decimal and multiplying it by the total loan amount. d) Suppose an investor has increased your budget by $22,250. The investor does not need to be repaid. Rather, he becomes part owner of your business. Will the investor contribute enough money to meet the cost of rent and utilities? Support your answer, and write an equation or inequality that illustrates your answer. No it does not meet the cost of rent and utilities, it is less than...

...Mike Henkle QLT1 Task 5 Western Governors University A. Create a story problem using one of the above real-world scenarios as a basis, including realistic numeric values, by doing the following: 1. Describe the real-world problem. I was looking into phone plans and stumbled upon T-Mobile, and I decided that I needed a cell-phone and took a look at the plans. T-mobile had one plan that was 50 dollars a month and is unlimited talk, text and web, T-Mobile also has a plan for 30 dollars a month for 1,500 talk and text minutes. After you go through your allotted 1,500 talk and text time was up, the cost skyrockets up to 10 cents a minute. 10 cents a minute comes out to 6.00 per hour, I thought in my head. I decided that instead of jumping into a decision about phone plans, that I should first go home and do the math. I wanted to figure out which plan was going to be the most cost effective, and which plan would suite my needs the best. 2. Explain all needs (e.g., financial, non-financial, situational) of the hypothetical consumer. The needs include many different factors: • The first and most important factor how much do you use your phone? The breaking point on the problem today is 200 talk or text above the 1500 minute plan and I will be paying less up front but more on the back end which is no good. If I chose the 1500 minute plan, I will not want to be going over the 1500 minutes as then the cost would go up to 10 cents...

...due for the week Option A: f * h = t a. 9 * 40 = $360 Option B: 150 + f(h-20) = t, for h >=20 b. 150 + 10(40-20) = $350 150 = t, for h < 20 c. 150 = total II. I set the hours to "h", the hourly fee to "f" and the total to "t". a. Option A: This option only has an hourly fee for each hour. The fee is $9 and the amount of hours is 40 so I multiplied the hours by the fee. b. Option B: This option has a flat rate of $150 for the first 20 hours and then an hourly rate of $10 thereafter. For the first equation that refers to over 20 hours, I subtracted 20 hours from the total time, multiplied it by $10, and then added it to $150. For the second equation that refers to any amount less than 20 hours, the total is always going to be $150. III. 9h = 150 9 9 h = 16.67 Set the equations equal to each other for under 20 hours. Divide by 9 to get h = 16.67 – the daycare centers are equal in price at 16.67 hours. This solution point is at (16.67, 150). 9h = 150+10(h-20) 9h = 150+10h-200 -10h - 10h -1h = 150 - 200 -1h...

...The behaviour in which one individual interacts with others and the world around them can enhance or restrain their experience of belonging. A sense of belonging is reliant on relationships and close links with places, particular environments and landscapes. Relationships are initially built upon mutual interests and acceptance and this is closely linked with one’s innate desire to be able to affiliate with a group or another individual. Belonging is a part of everyday life and can enrich our identity and can lead to acceptance and understanding. In Shakespeare’s play ‘As You Like It’ and the first three episodes of the TV series ‘Seachange’ the protagonists experience a wide range of belonging and not belonging not only to person but also to place. This is observed throughout the wide use of juxtaposition of settings, country life versus city life, dramatic irony, and satire to express the characters feelings and to involve the responder. In the TV series, ‘SeaChange’ the concept of belonging and not belonging to place can be compared to similar concepts and values from ‘As You Like It’. In ‘SeaChange’ Laura Gibson’s life is shattered in a matter of a day; she almost kills the family cat, her son is expelled, she misses out on a partnership at work, and she finds out that her husband Jack is cheating on her with her sister. In a sudden change of behavior, she takes a job as a magistrate in a small seaside town, Pearl Bay, where she had been for a holiday with her family during...
