...road when you look back and have no regrets and are happy with what you accomplished is success. The person I picked to do this project on has done all of these things. His name is Aubrey Drake Graham and he came from nothing to something through hard work and it lead to success. He fits my definition of success perfectly. Drake was known as an actor named Jimmy Brooks on the TV show called Degrassi early in his life. He began his acting career in 2001 and starred on the show for seven years. Drake was a very young and successful actor “earning a 2002 Young Artist Award for Best Ensemble in a TV Series” (Profile). While still acting he started to fall in love with music. He began making music and eventually released his first mixtape, Room for Improvement, in 2006. The next year he came out with another mixtape called Comeback Season. His music career was going in the right direction but wasn’t that good yet. “In 2008, the producers of Degrassi overhauled the cast, eliminating Drake's character” (Profile). Without his acting job and not making substantial amount of money as rapper, Drake was on the brink of looking for a job. "I was coming to terms with the fact that ... I might have to work at a restaurant or something just to keep things going." (Profile). Without a real job or much money Drake could have gave up on everything but he didn’t. In order to achieve...

...Aubrey Drake Graham born October 24, 1986 in Toronto, Ontario, who records under Drake. He is a Canadian recording artist, rapper, and songwriter. Drake started off playing Jimmy Brooks on the television series Degrassi. After that career was done he later rose as a rapper, after releasing a couple of mixtapes before signing with Young Money Entertainment (Kellman). For one Drake is one of my all time favorite music artists. He motivates me and puts me in a positive attitude with his original lyrics. The song “Successful” in the album So Far Gone and Ready sticks out as one of my favorite songs record by Drake. He pushes past the dilemmas in his life and all the dislike everybody throws at him but still does what he wants to do. Compared to other rappers, Drake has by far the most meaning in every song he produces. Drake has a music style that isn’t like any other; most of his lyricism is in regard to being rich and famous and also past relationships with strippers. “Drake's sound is labeled as "soft" for his genuine, forgiving lyrics and expressive melody.” (Lester). What is another thing that sets him apart from the rest is he has a wide vocabulary in his rhymes that he produces; you can tell that he is very high educated. From the album Take Care I can sing every song on that album because you can understand Drake when he raps. “Drake has a unique musical style that has set him apart from his Young Money counterparts, especially in his latest effort album “Take Care” (Markman)...

...Sir Francis Drake – Circumnavigator Extraordinaire A vast majority of individuals will travel through their life and not impact the world around them. They will contribute a minimum to society and will leave no footprints behind. Sir Francis Drake, Vice Admiral was not one of these people, not only did he impact the world around him, he conquered it as well. The life he led will go down in history, and his name will be remembered until the end of time for being the astonishing individual that he turned himself into. With consideration of all the incredible people whom he encountered during his five and fifty years, it is in great honor that I may speak during the hour of his death. Employed under our majesty, Queen Elizabeth I, Drake conquered the seas with an iron fist. He was an extremely loyal subject to our Queen and would have done anything to protect her. Whether this be defeating the Spanish Armada, giving the Queen and England itself a stunning victory. Onto a more personal level, in which I witnessed; when one of her subjects pulled a sword on her, he was right by her side, baring his own dagger, protecting our majesty from the potential threat. He was an outstanding navigator and sea captain, who accomplished circumnavigating the entire globe. Drake was a brave leader to many and used these skills to help bring down the mighty Spanish Armada. He saved countless of his soldiers’ lives on many occasions and was truly an honor to serve under, for his guidance was...

...Sir Francis Drake, Vice Admiral (1540 – 27 January 1596) was an English sea captain, privateer, navigator, slaver, a renowned pirate, and politician of the Elizabethan era. Elizabeth I of England awarded Drake a knighthood in 1581. He was second-in-command of the English fleet against the Spanish Armada in 1588, subordinate only to Charles Howard and the Queen herself. He died of dysentery in January 1596 after unsuccessfully attacking San Juan, Puerto Rico. His exploits were legendary, making him a hero to the English but a pirate to the Spaniards to whom he was known as El Draque, 'Draque' being the Spanish pronunciation of 'Drake'. His name in Latin was Franciscus Draco ('Francis the Dragon').[2] King Philip II was claimed to have offered a reward of 20,000 ducats, about £4,000,000 (US$6.5M) by modern standards, for his life. He is famous for (among other things) leading the first English circumnavigation of the world, from 1577 to 1580....

Not only was Drake a British privateer but he was also an explorer, slave trader, and politician of the Elizabethan era. He was involved in piracy and, in his early years, the slave trade. In 1581 he was awarded a knighthood by Queen Elizabeth I for carrying out the second circumnavigation of the world. I thought myself at a young age how to navigate a merchant ship, and soon after became a pirate. In 1567 my cousin John Hawkins and I sailed the Caribbean Sea to the Gulf of Mexico. On our way there, we where attacked by Spaniards. We barley survived. After that horrifying day I had very strong hatred for Spaniards. On December 13th, 1577 I pursued my exploration. I set sail with 3 ships, two of them where for supplies, and the other one was for me and my crew. Thomas Doughty, my friend and Queen's Courtesan, sailed with me on my exploration. We reached our destination on the West Coast of...

...Zenja Jones Eng101 – Smith 2 Nov 2015 Jungle The most significant thing I’ve read does not come from a book, a magazine, or a blog. It comes from a hip-hop song. The song was made by a Canadian rapper, turned singer, named Aubrey Graham. He is well known as Drake in the music industry. The song I am referring to is called ‘Jungle.’ There is one lyric in particular that caught my attention and stuck with me. The lyric itself personally inspires me to be my best and encourages me to keep moving toward success. The song is fairly new. It was released in February of 2015, along with seventeen other songs, on Drake’s album ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.’ This is his fourth commercial released album. It was randomly available on iTunes on the thirteenth of February. The album has been very successful, as well as his others. The album debuted as number one on the Canadian Albums Chart and the Billboard 200. Because of ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late,’ Drake became the first rapper to top Billboard’s Artist 100 chart. Jungle has the third most plays out of the whole album. Drake has always been one of my favorite artists to listen to. I feel his music is more relatable than others. Jungle really grabbed ahold of my mind and wedged itself in there, continuously playing even when I’m not listening to the actual song. It loops the same part of the song over and over again when I’m in apposition of giving up. It is a rather emotional song though. The meaning of the...

...One important idea that the author wants to convey to the reader is the awful treatment of the slaves during this time. Throughout the book you can see how the slaves were treated as objects, or even animals and were treated with no respect. One example comes early on in the book when the girls are suppose to be given their freedom but are not because their new owner has no proof. Even when Isabel tells the man she read the document out loud to herself, she is accused of being a liar because most slaves did not know how to read. Another example is when Isabel isn’t allowed to leave the house without a pass. She was required to have a pass even when she was just going to the store. This is not right because it is making their freedom to leave the house completely up to their owner. One important idea that the author wants to convey to the reader is friendship. The friendship shown in the book is not easy, they had to be sneaky about it and fight to be friends. In the book the friendship between Isabel and Ruth is more than being sisters, they have a very special bond because they lost their mom when they were young. Another friendship that growns throughout the book is between Isabel and Lady Seymour, as their friendship develops she is one of the leading causes that Isabel is finally able to obtain her freedom. Another important idea that the author wants to convey to the reader is courage. I have a feeling that not many slaves had courage considering that they had...

...Ivan Petricevic Project: SETI Prof. Antonio Paris Does Life Exist Outside of our Universe? Are we alone? This question has been around ever since the beginning of human civilization and the idea of life outside of our planet ponders my mind often. The SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence is one of the most high-tech radio telescopes that search for evidence of life outside our planet. The way SETI works is it tries to listen for any signal in our universe from another civilization outside our planet. Frank Drake who is the founder of SETI is well thought-out to be the pioneer of the scientific search for alien life. In 1961, Frank had developed an equation that estimates the number of alien civilizations which may be reached; known as the “Drake Equation”. During the beginning stages of SETI, one main problem...

...Bob Knowlton at Simmons Securities Bob Knowlton was sitting alone in the conference room of Simmons Securities. The rest of his group had left. One of the secretaries had stopped and talked for a while about her husband's enrollment in graduate school and had finally gone home. Bob, alone on the floor, slid a little farther down in his chair, looking with satisfaction at the results of the first computer simulation of the newest Millenium derivative. He liked to stay after the others had gone. His appointment as project head was still new enough to give him a deep sense of pleasure. His eyes were on the graphs before him, but in his mind, he could hear Dr. Alan Jerrold, the director of research, saying again, "There's one thing about this place you can bank on. The sky is the limit for a person who can produce!" Knowlton felt again the tingle of happiness and embarrassment. Well, dammit, he said to himself, he had produced. He wasn't kidding anybody. He had come to Simmons Securities two years ago. While testing some proposed derivatives, he had stumbled on the idea behind the Millenium family of derivatives, and the rest just happened. Jerrold had been enthusiastic: A separate project had been set up for further research and development of these derivatives, and he had gotten the job of managing it. The whole sequence of events still seemed a little miraculous to Knowlton. He shrugged out of the reverie and bent determinedly over the sheets of paper when he heard someone...

...asked by human kind since forever… is “are we alone?” Are we alone in this star system, our galaxy, the whole universe? And if we are not alone, then why hasn’t an intelligent alien species revealed themselves to us (every human). Assuming that almost every possible life bearing planet has had at least a few billion years to evolve and progress technologically. Now, getting back to the question “are we alone?”, personally, I doubt that we are alone, and here’s why. The drake equation. The drake equation is an equation (obviously), that was created by a man named Frank Drake back in the 1960’s. And what this equation tries to solve is the amount of intelligent extra-terrestrial civilizations in the milky way galaxy (our home galaxy at the moment). More specifically, it “Identifies specific factors thought to play a role in the development of such civilizations. Although there is no unique solution to this equation, it is a generally accepted tool used by the scientific community to examine these factors.” --Frank Drake, 1961....
