You will be exposed to a variety of genres this year. I am guiding the genre choice, but within it, you may choose the book. By the end of the year, you will have read a minimum of four new books, analyzed the writer’s structure and use of language -or- written an essay either explaining or arguing a point. For A+ credit, create a project to extend understanding. Here are the four genres from which your books must be found.
First: Read your book of choice for a minimum of 100 minutes a week. (60+ pages a week… or more!)
Second: Record reading on Reading Log and track Literary Terms and “big ideas” on bookmark.
Third: Complete a Novel Map as you go, update it every Friday in class after Bell Ringer and Latin.
Fourth: When done reading book and Novel Map, meet with Mrs. Owensby for a “book chat”.
Last (…optional and for A+ credit only): Create a project from the choices on the other side and present to class. This can only be done AFTER the assignments above have been completed first.
