In Elie Wiesel’s Night, Wiesel uses irony to show the innocence of the Jewish people and how unaware they were of the horrors they were going to experience. When the Germans invaded Hungary and made every Jew wear a yellow star, Elie’s father thought nothing of it and claimed that “it’s not lethal” (11). In this instance, Wiesel uses dramatic irony to reveal how the Jewish people had no idea that it would be that same star that they felt brought them closer together that would mark them for death and anguish. Furthermore, the Jewish people wanted to believe so badly that they had nothing to worry about and remain hopeful about the future instead of facing the terrible truth in front of them. After the stars and the removal of their valuables
