The Achieving The Dream Scholarship awarded was awarded to several incoming freshman to Rowan University. While applying for the scholarship I wasn't even sure that I would be accepted into Rowan University, however, if I did I knew the scholarship would help me be able to pay for it. About two months later I received my acceptance letter from Rowan University and not long was accepted into the scholarship program. So I decided to attend Rowan University in the Fall semester, with the help of the ATD scholarship I was able to pay for it. This scholarship gave me the opportunity to attend Rowan University. This, you probably already know.

Allow me to tell you about something might not know, something about me. I come from a primarily Black and Latino City known as Bridgeton. Now if you have heard about Bridgeton, most the things you heard haven't been good, and if you haven't, that's to be expected. Bridgeton has been branded as a low-income city where high school dropouts and crime are prominent. Coming from this community not much is expected from students in the city school system. At least a third of the students that attend the city’s high school don't graduate every year. Out of the graduates from the Bridgeton high school only half of them proceed to a post high school education. And of those only 15 percent attend an institution …show more content…
It took me a while to realize this as everyone who does come from Bridgeton is a commuter. Mostly to cut down on the costs for attending Rowan, I was really the only one from Bridgeton who decided to stay on Campus. And to be truthful it hasn’t been easy trying to pay for everything. With a mix of financial aid, loans, and the ATD scholarship the payment has been reduced drastically to a little over a thousand dollars a month with me staying on campus. Ever that was a little troublesome for me and my family to

500 Word Essay For College

...College Essay Most college scholarships ask you to write a 500+ word essay, which isn’t that bad, but what is the reason behind it? Do most people that require an essay ever read them? Seriously, who has time to read a 1000+ word essay and chose from the best. Personally, that doesn’t seem to be fair because most people have trouble writing a paragraph, and then we are expected to write a huge essay telling about something in our life or respond to a weird question with a topic that most people won’t even think about. With topics such as, “Explain how your life changed with a death of a parent,”or “How would college affect your career,” or even “Why I deserve this scholarship.” Well, I’m going to explain everything I possibly can. The death of any parent would make anyone change, because no one is the same; we are all unique. With my dad’s death I didn’t know how to act for the longest time, and I still don’t; I say this because the day my father died, the doctor called all of my family back where he lay, hooked up to life support, lifeless. Just looking at his body, I didn't feel anything; however, I looked at the situation as is he wasn’t really dead because I was 12 and didn’t know...

Summary

...In this essay, Rodriguez reminisces about his education and the impact it has had on his life. He claims that his success in life is based on how education changed him and separated him from the life he had "before becoming a student." Throughout this essay, Rodriguez refers to Richard Hogart's book The Uses of Literacy, in which he discovered one of the few mentions of the "scholarship boy" by educational theorists. Rodriguez sees himself in Hogart's descriptions of the scholarship boy, and this has helped him understand his experiences. Rodriguez expresses concern that he was the type of student who, while making good grades, simply memorized information and never developed his own opinions. Like the "scholarship boy," Rodriguez worked for academic success and denied his past. And also like the "scholarship boy," Rodriguez experienced nostalgia for his past. But he notes that while education created a gulf between him and his parents, education also made it possible to care about that fact and to write about it. Rodriguez remembers his parents' experiences with education and work. His mother received a high school degree even though, he says, her English was poor. She went to night school, worked as a typist, and was very proud of her excellent spelling ability. His father moved to the United States as a young man, seeking a better life as an engineer. That dream never materialized, and his father worked at a series of unsatisfying low end jobs that, nonetheless, kept...

...Mr. Universe Prairie Meadows How would this scholarship help you pursue an education that would put you on your ideal career path? Personal Narrative Reach for the stars "The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won't. Interview

...Marques Whitmire was an easy individual to admire with his ambitious attitude that complimented his down-to-earth attitude. I met Marques at the Sheraton hotel of downtown Atlanta through my cousin, Reggie Scott, where they both were at on a business trip. Marques overheard our, my cousin and I, conversation about college and what I planned to do with my future and immediately joined in and gave his own insight. The interesting thing was that Marques had an MBA in Marketing which is something I aspire to do. He told me things to work at to get better and had all the answers to every single one of my questions. Although I had only met Marques once before my interview, he made it feel as if I had been around him fifty times. So, I chose none other than Marques Whitmire to interview. I called upon Marques for an interview and he agreed. Although Marques was a very busy man, he fit me into his schedule. He was in Atlanta on a business trip for the Honda Battle of the Bands and he arranged an interview for October 17th at two p.m. at Starbucks. I wanted to give a good impression so I was at Starbucks fifteen minutes before two shortly before Marques arrived. Marques walked in as if he had just left a business meeting. He was wearing a black suit, white shirt, black dress shoes, purple tie, and a pair of Calvin Klein spectacles that gave him a look that was hard to top. When I saw him, that’s what I imagined myself to be in a couple years. We both greeted each other....

The American Dream

...The American Dream Give an outline of how the American Dream is interpreted in texts 2, 3 and 4. Text 2: The text is about how foreigners look at the American Dream and their expectations to it. The whole text is built on how Arnold Schwarzenegger experienced the move from Austria to USA and fulfilling the American Dream. How like many other foreigners he came from nothing and moved to the states and then fighting to get his American Dream fulfilled. In the text Schwarzenegger puts the emphasis on foreigners to work hard to fulfill their American Dream. They should not just accept the handouts but work hard to be greater and help the American society to be greater. Text 3: This text tells us a different version of the American Dream. It emphasizes more on the social side of things. The writer describes how more and more people are getting demoralized and more pessimistic than ever seen in the last half-century. People cannot afford family life if they also think about money. The young people in society have completed some surveys, in which one found out that they want more time with their families. The writer predicts that “even more young people are going to choose - or be pushed into - a smaller-scale, downshifted lifestyle where they make do with less stuff and trade more money for more time”. Then the writer comments on how the American Dream is changing from being materialistic to being more focused on social life. The writer also says “but it’s more sustainable...
