...Everyone has their honest truth or opinion about how you should present yourself in school. I am aware of how we are expected to dress and i am understanding upon the point of trying to teach us how to be presentable in public. However, many people have a different outlook on the form of dress code. Maybe we don't want to follow the traditional way of dressing. Skirts, dresses, and shorts cannot be any higher mid-thigh. “ So we can only wear long shorts?” Wouldnt long shorts be pants, Perhaps?” All bottoms are to be worn on the waist.” Would students be punished for wearing pants above the waist?” Maybe I want to wear my pants or skirt around my chest. That's a geeky way of dressing. Nerds are usually pretty smart. So, now are you criticizing...

..."You never get a second chance to make a first impression." This statement couldn't be more true when it comes to the issue regarding dress codes in the corporate world. Rather than maintain professionalism in the workplace, up-and-coming corporations are settling for jeans and t-shirts in the name of creativity and moral. Allowing employees to dress casually at work sends the wrong message to teenagers. Parents and teachers frequently discuss the importance of dressing appropriately and maintaining dress codes on campus, yet as an a adult, you can wear jeans and t-shirt to work. Teens with part-time jobs have to wear a uniform and look presentable at all times, but CEOs and VPs can dress casually for meetings. Why should I dress professionally...

...Dress Codes Are Creating A Rebellion I’m sure you’ve seen on the news or social media, all the dress code violations with parents fighting against the school. Student’s bodies are different and unique. They don’t always resemble the body shape for most clothes to fit correctly. The school’s dress code needs to change and become forgiving. Certain body types can’t find clothes that are school appropriate. Girls are most often dress coded. Other dress codes are more strict than what we realize. Clothes that are being offered to us in malls and other clothing outlets, often “go against” the dress code. Girls often feel that schools are sending a message, to cover up and be ashamed of your body (Wallace). Girls body types can be from tall to short and from wide to...

...Dress codes in schools should be enforced because they create an educational environment for students. However most students don’t obey dress code policies, even though some believe that dress codes are conducive to a wonderful and healthy learning environment.” Teenagers who took part in the Oxford Brooks University study said that dress codes acted as a leveler in social standing and reduced the risk of children being picked on for wearing “weird” clothes. Kids also admitted that they were less likely to misbehavior outside of school since their uniform instantly identified their school.” (Kingstone). Uniforms can benefit in many circumstances and can be very helpful to parents and students both. The schools have a set guideline of dress...

...Should School Dress Codes Be Enforced? Troy Gibson Research and Writing- English 215 Fall Quarter Major Paper B Final Exam December 18, 2008 Instructor: Danny L. Daily Over the last decade or so the topic of school dress codes has been the center of attention here in America. The main question asked is, Should school dress codes be enforced? Especially in public schools in the U.S. There are some positive and negative factors surrounding the concerns of school dress codes being enforced. Some opponents against school dress codes include, students, parents and faculty members, which argue certain factors that enforcing the dress code is, a violation of students rights, of freedom of expression, second, it can put a financial burden on students families who live below the poverty line, third, some claim it is just a temporary relief to school violence, fourth it adds an additional tax on parents who already pay taxes on free public schooling, and fifth, some say that enforcing the dress code is to difficult in public schools. On the other hand, those who are proponents of the dress code add that by enforcing this policy, it will help eliminate violence, identify outsiders who do not belong there, improve a student attendance, eliminate students from being peer pressured in buying designer clothing and foster a students discipline as well as lessen the social and economic boundaries between students in school. With all of these...

...Power Relations Abstract Clothing has the ability to convey social signals and perceptions to society. This paper explores the relationship between clothing and power, otherwise known as “Power Dressing”. This is a problem because it can enable power differences to occur and it uses past research to support and validate this issue. Overall findings suggest that individuals wearing professional attire in different social situations were perceived to be more competent, attractive, and can achieve greater business performance in comparison to individuals wearing casual attire. Keywords Social Perception, Power, Clothing, Fashion, Inequality Introduction Depending on the social status and mobility of an individual, clothing is relatively expensive. This is problematic because it may enable others to evaluate an individual based on their attire. An individual with low social mobility may not have enough funds to invest into the latest fashion trend in contrast to one with higher mobility. Consequently, power differences and inequality has greater potential to rise. Taking a deeper look into this problem, how individuals decide to dress has an immense impact on how they are perceived by others in society. Paying close attention to clothing details and having a strong fashion sense can effectively shape others...

...system is a controversial topic that has sparked the attention of many. We live in a society that enforces strict dress code policies in public schools. We live in a society that that has strict mandated curricula that must be followed, and we live in a society where art departments are being cut from schools. This topic requires immediate attention today because the public school system is negatively impacting the creativity of the enrolled students by not allowing students to freely explore their selves and areas of interest. By conducting research that deals with how the public school system is impacting the students’ creativity from both viewpoints, I will attempt to show the multitude of arising problems with the public school system, and ultimately support my own opinion about the topic. I will also explain why immediate action is necessary and steps to take in order to begin reversing the issue I feel as if the public school system is limiting the creativity of students in many ways. Some ways include, but are not limited to, the enforcement of dress code policies, the mandated curricula that teachers must follow, and the budget cuts that are taking art departments out of public school. However, there are many other opposing viewpoints to my claim. Tim Bradley, a writer for the Huffington Post, is an opponents to my claim, and he suggest that the dress codes enforced are to maintain equality in the schools. Bradley also feel that a strict mandated curricula must be in place...

...This paper will provide a brief introduction in the use of Maslow’s hierarchy necessity to describe the measure of, which growth could use influence personality formation. It will construe biological factors, which influence the formation of character. This paper will provide the affiliation of biological factors to Maslow’s theory of personality. In this paper the subject to explain is the essential aspects of humanistic theory, which are adverse with biological explanations of character. Personality comes from different form of life; personality can change at any given time because it depends, the lifestyle in, which individuals lived. A person can have an enormous personality, but with problems of life, and worry it can change for the worst. Drug users can influence the personality of individuals, and so can medical drug. ...school environment and to individual students themselves. Over the last decade, uniforms in public schools have increased, bringing a great deal of controversy along with them. With this public controversy there have been lawsuits, increased media attention, criticism from parents and complaints from students as well as increased academic research. There have been many recent studies done that offer evidence that school uniforms have been effective in many different ways. The purpose of this paper is to argue in favor of the implementation of school uniforms in our public education system by addressing these different articles and studies on the implementation of school uniforms. Ann Bodine wrote an ethnography about a city in the United States and the introduction of school uniforms. In her article she writes about the introduction of school uniforms and how it intersects with different aspects of life. Bodine describes students’ clothing as a “screen on which are projected all kinds of beliefs, anxieties and aspirations about children” (2003, p. 60). Through her observations of people and their clothing she noticed that the concept of dress as a form of free speech is only a tiny part of the meaning they are actually trying to convey with their clothing. (p.67) Clothing is used to express identity through terms of socioeconomic status, membership in certain groups as well as other factors of identity that often marginalize students who don’t fit specific criteria. Bodine examines...

...School Uniforms: The Pros and Cons in schools (Final Paper) ChaMyra Lewis-Jackson ENG 122 English Composition II Mr. Brandon Bond December 23, 2014 School Uniforms: The Pros and Cons in schools In our country many concerns and issues about safety in our schools have caused a big disturbance which have led school districts to require uniforms for their students. Long ago, some parents seem against or incapable of singling out the "clothes" line with their children, to the point where the new trending styles took a toll and started influencing the kids' attire decisions in a big way. The safety of the students and environment which was surrounded by gang violence and other concerning distractions became an important matter for a lot of individuals within the school districts. School uniforms and dress codes can play a significant role in the drastic change with student in a learning environment (Boutelle, 2008). That’s why school uniforms should be implemented as a policy for students in different districts, because many reports have shown after enforcing this policy students showed a dramatic improvement in their academics, attendance and behavior. Most advocates imply that if all students are required to wear uniforms would give the students an opportunity to find a sense of unity and equality with one another which will help with the confidence of some that didn’t feel like they belonged. Uniforms would also diminish bullying and give students a better frame of mind...
