Those are common diseases for both men and women various from age 18 to 65. A study that followed 40,000 men for 2 decades found that those who averaged one can of sugary beverage per day had a 20% higher risk of having a heart attack or dying from a heart attack. Furthermore, a 22-year-long study of 80,000 women found that those who consumed a can a day of sugary drink had a 75% higher risk of gout than women who rarely had such drinks. A similar result was found for men too. The opinion is a controversial one. A study shows that an average 12-ounce-can of Diet Coke contains about 45 mg of caffeine. Health Canada recommends that the amount of no more than 2.5 mg of caffeine per 2.2 lbs. of body weight a day. Likewise, an average 12-ounce-can of Diet Coke contains about 40 mg of sodium, which is 2 percent of the recommended daily intake. For all of those impacts below, American should give up on diet soda. Soda drink doesn’t help to weight loss but gain weight instead, because even when it lacks of sugar and high-fructose corn syrup, it still contains lots of forms of low-calorie or non-calorie artificial sweeteners (Squillace). ...I have learned that too much of anything is bad for you so you always have to keep a moderation of anything and everything. We need saturated and unsaturated fats but we have to understand the common misconception between them. “While it is well known that there are saturated and unsaturated fats, fewer people are aware that unsaturated fats are further classified into two other groups:monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats.” (Saturated Fats vs Unsaturated Fats) There is a third type of fat known as a trans fat. Dna Extraction

...Extraction of DNA from an Onion Molecular biologists and biochemists are involved with research in finding out as much as possible about the DNA in plants and animals. Although DNA was discovered in the 1950’s, there still remains a lot to be known about it, especially how it is used to determine the physical traits that we all have, and how it regulates the workings of the body. We should always remember that DNA is just a chemical named deoxyribonucleic acid. Because it is a chemical, we can do reactions with it just like we can work with any other chemical. In this lab, we will use the chemical properties of DNA to extract it from the cells of onions. Experiment: Note: You should write all observations from this lab in the observation section on the third page of this lab. These observations will account for a large part of your grade, so be neat and complete! 1) Prepare a buffer solution by pouring the following into a clean 250 mL Erlenmeyer flask: - 120 mL of water (distilled water, if available) - 1.5 grams of sodium chloride (table salt) - 5.0 grams of baking soda (sodium hydrogen carbonate) - 5.0 mL of shampoo or liquid laundry detergent What buffer solutions are used for: This buffer solution is used in this lab for several reasons. First of all, the saltiness and acidity (pH) of the solution is very close to that in living things; as a result, the DNA will like to dissolve into this solution. Secondly...

The Potential Dangers of Using Artificial Sweetener

...Nowadays, people more and more care about their health, especially, the food that they eat every day. Not only do they care about the quantity of foods, but also they consider the quality of foods. People confirm the ingredient before they buy products and they usually choose artificial sweeteners over natural sugar. They think artificial sweeteners will not add extra calories to the body and help them to control their weight. However, many health experts doubt the safety of artificial sweeteners after doing research about it. They have discovered several dangerous elements in artificial sweeteners. This paper reports the types of common artificial sweeteners, the reason why they are harmful, their bad influences on the body, and why they are not helpful to control our weight. The first artificial sweetener, saccharin, was discovered in 1879 in America. In the beginning, artificial sweetener was only used by diabetics who couldn’t absorb too much natural sugar (de la Pena, 2010). Since 1980, people have started to use chemical sweeteners to control their weight and improve their health. Suddenly, artificial sweetener products became very popular in the United States (de la Pena, 2010). Millions of Americans use chemical sweeteners instead of natural sugar in order to enhance their health. However, it does not mean that chemical sweeteners are health foods. Actually, they are not. They are not like vitamins, whole grains, or proteins that can contribute to our health...

Becoming a Healthy Person Final Paper

...moving parts which keep it running and from time to time maintenance is required in order for that machine to operate at peak efficiency. Much like the car engine needs oil, lubrication and fuel to operate smoothly, so does the human body. If the improper fluids or fuel are used in the engine it may operate for a while before the systems begin to shut down. This is similar to the human body, because although foods such as candy, soda and cheeseburgers may be taken in and have enough vitamins and minerals to keep the body running, it may still not contain the proper amount of nutrients that that it takes to maintain it for a long period of time. The human body requires certain nutrients that healthier foods can provide while unhealthy foods contain additives and preservatives which are harmful to the body. If a diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, grains, low-fat or nonfat dairy products, and other such healthy foods are consumed, the human body will be much healthier than when a diet consisting of prepackaged and unhealthy foods are consumed. According to the (Centers for Disease Control [CDC]. 2004a), there are more people consuming foods that are prepackaged because they are fast and convenient, but are higher in fat, sugars, and calories. The portion sizes have also increased, and many are consuming calories from too much food in a single meal which can lead to health problems including obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes to name a few. Diabetes can be treated but it can’t be necessarily be curable. It is important that to motivate people to start taking care of their body’s. It is devastating to see young children suffer at young ages because of the foods they eat and not getting plenty of exercises. Having a good health is very important and for young children there should not be any excuses. The reason why I picked this topic is because my mother’s side of my family are diabetics and it is very common to them. My grandmother has to take medications everyday for her diabetes. My family has the decency to take care of their body’s, but it’s a disease that runs in our family. There is a great chance for me in the future to catch this disease if I do not pay attention to my own health. Sitting for long periods of time, along with lack of exercise can also be a contributing factor for freshman’s weight gain. Our Food Is Harming Us

...eat healthy fresh organic food. The food that we eat on a daily basis will affect our long-term health specially the students; also, the food industry does not care about people’s health instead it cares only for money. In this paper, I will show that food industry is destroying people’s health on one hand by putting an enormous amount of sugar and on the other hand making low-fat products. What are the people really eating? Once in my human biology class Dr. Walter Hoeh said: “The food that you eat every day will not kill you now but it will kill you after twenty to thirty years from eating the food, however, eventually you will die from the food.” He explained how food affect us, when we heard the explanation we were shocked because we buy food without reading the ingredient. When you eat processed food it tastes delicious and you crave for more, but you are only eating sugar and harmful fats and that type of sugar and fats are harming the human body. According to Ms. Epel in the skinny of obesity episode 2, she said:” I'm suspicious a anything that says low-fat diet because you know that that means that they had to compensate with a lot these added sugars there's more than five ingredients its probably a processed food and there's probably not much real food in their it is almost impossible to buy those...

...running rampant. If your skin could talk it would say something along the lines of “patience, grasshopper. Treat me right and I shall repay you in kind.” That’s just a guess, anyways. The point is, natural acne remedies are a good way to get rid of it, or at least hold it at bay. They make you step back and really figure out what’s going on with your skin, and how to work with it. Chances are, your skin will repay you in kind for not simply ravaging it with strange chemicals-and your wallet will probably thank you too. 1. Apply some apple cider vinegar Apple cider vinegar is a powerhouse when it comes to acting as an acne remedy. Why? It kills off the bacteria that may be causing all the trouble in the first place. It also becomes alkaline, and balances the pH of your skin, which in turn makes it harder for bacteria to thrive. To top it off it’s an astringent, like lemon juice, and will help dry up excess oil. Keeping that in mind, don’t overdo and dry out your skin too much. This could cause the sebaceous glands overproduce to compensate, therefore triggering an outbreak. You will need… -Pure unfiltered apple cider vinegar -Fresh water Directions Wash your face with water and pat dry. Using a ratio of 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water, dip a cotton ball...

...be an acquaintance or stranger. Drugs used by Attackers: Drug-facilitated date rape is the use of drugs to assist the attacker in a rape. The drug can be any substance that is physical or mind altering. Drug facilitated sexual assault (DFSA), which is considered an umbrella term for crimes such as drug-facilitated date rape, differs from many rapes in that it is not typically a crime of physical violence but rather of sexual hedonism and entitlement. Though flunitrazepam (Rohypnol) is often cited as a date rape drug because of its high potency, strong effects and the ability to cause strong amnesia during its duration of action, investigations into its actual use as a date rape drug have contradicted popular belief. According to research conducted by Michael Robertson from the San Diego Medical Examiner's office and Dr. Mahmoud El Sohly of El Sohly Laboratories, test results indicated that flunitrazepam was only used in around 1% of reported date rapes according to Robertson and 0.33% according to urine lab tests done by El Sohly. In fact, the benzodiazepines midazolam and temazepam were the two most common benzodiazepines utilized for date rape. Ketamine is commonly known as: Black Hole, Bump, Cat Valium, Green, Jet, K, Kit Kat, Psychedelic heroin, Purple, Special K, Super Acid, Keller, Super C, etc. GBL or GHB are popular because "Victims may not be aware that they ingested a drug at all.
