...INTRODUCTION ‘Drive a car without a license, Forget about the expensive car park outside your office’ because now your car can drive back to the house itself, Or if you want to take a nap while you get to the destination. It’s all easy with the new driver less cars. Driverless cars and other automated vehicles offer major potential benefits and could profoundly change our lives for better. They will make driving easier, allow people to be more productive and offer greater mobility to a wider range of people than ever before. They will also help improve road safety, reduce emissions, and ease congestion. As a result they can provide significant economic, environmental and social benefits, including improving social inclusion. The next thing is the driver can choose whether they want to drive or not. If they select an autonomous mode, they can allow the vehicle to take care of driving while they make use of the journey time in other ways. Strengths Time saving - So the first advantage of driverless cars is they are Multitasking. You can do anything you want Eat, Sleep, Work, Chat with relatives – commute time is no longer down time. An average driver spends the equivalent of six working weeks driving a year (MP Claire Perry, Department for Transport (UK)).In addition they never get tired or distracted could hold the key to substantially improving the road safety. Where it came from and why it’s important today. The word “accountable” has so much history behind it. Accountability is important on all levels. Being able to be accountable is a corner stone of being a working member of society. Accountability is a word with many different meanings. This essay will explore what accountability is, where it comes from, and what it means to “be accountable”. Websters dictionary defines it as such: the quality or state of being accountable; especially; an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for ones actions. "Accountability" stems from late Latin accomptare (to account), a prefixed form of computare (to calculate), which in turn derived from putare (to reckon). While the word itself does not appear in English until its use in 13th century Norman England, the concept of account-giving has ancient roots in record keeping activities related to governance and money-lending systems that first developed in Ancient Israel, Babylon, Egypt, Greece, and later, Rome What is accountability and the definition: (DOD) The obligation imposed by law or lawful order or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping accurate record of property, documents, or funds. ...Most Stolen Cars Math 222 7 October 2013 There is a probability that cars on the top ten stolen car list would be stolen over other cars that thieves steel in the United States annually. There is a car stolen every 26.4 seconds in the United States today. According the National Insurance Research institute that is 715,373 in the year 2012. This paper is a statistical look at what are the five most stolen in the United States (US). Attempt to show the likelihood of one of these cars stolen from the Top Five Stolen Cars in the United States. I have also done my own research to show how many cars of the top five stolen cars are in the neighborhood I live in to support the data in this paper. I will also compare it to all the other cars that are not on the list so you can see how frequently cars on the top five stolen car list appear around you. When compiling the data the realization that none of my sources raked the top five stolen cars in the same order. This is because the research materials were written in many different states. Researching further if I had used all the data together the data would give outliers in the statistical analysis. So I chose to use the data from the National Insurance Research Institute for this paper. Looking at the numbers, the number one stolen car in the US is the Honda Accord 58,596. Number two on the list the Honda Civic with 47,037 cars stolen. Statics show that it is in the number two spot with a difference of 11,559 cars between number...

...Self-driving Cars Do you think driver less cars need to be sold on the market? Are driver less cars safe? No because if changes in laws the car does not know and could crash. I don't like driver less because something could happen to the parts and then the car would be working wrong. I will prove that we don't need driver less cars. My first reason is the cars might not know all the things about driving. If something on the road changes, the cars are lost. For example they wouldn't obey a new stop sign. If there was construction they would go the wrong speed limit. That is why driver less cars are not safe. Additionally cars wouldn't recognize things like a paper ball. They have problems figuring out what objects are like paper...

...being said cars is on the list to definitely change how we live in the next twenty years. Nowadays just like we use what is called smart phones well we also have and use smart cars, which is cool. Detroit’s big three auto industry (or what’s left of it remaining in the city) is on a come up with new and improved auto innovations especially looking toward the future. Looking forward twenty years from now I would say that at that point cars will be able to drive and guide themselves, more car companies will produce more battery powered vehicles, and cars will be equipped to better help prevent accidents and accidental injury. So again, in my opinion I feel that over the next twenty years of living we finally will have smart, precise and advanced self-less drivable vehicles produced by our big three. The impact and significance of this feature could actually do us as drivers good. Just think for a second, people fall asleep while driving, people get side tracked quite often, people get distracted just by in-car activities alone, etc. We are not really any closer to having this special feature in motion. However Google has been experimenting with self-driving ever since May, 2012. From past research they have actually put together a drive-less car and have tested it out. The only accident that has taken place on their end was in 2011 and it was located in California. Another impact on cars toward the future would be that more car companies would...

...most people that want to go with the simplest way to drive a car. They would pick the automatic when they buy their brand new Honda Accord or a Ford Fusion. As for older people when they were younger they probably learned how to drive a manual transmission simply because that was the only car their family had. Nowadays 90% of all American families have an automatic car, compared to Europe and Japan, where only 20% drive an automatic car. So whenever an American fifteen year old kid gets his permit the first car he is going to drive is going to be an automatic and they will more than likely stay with that transmission. Compared to a fifteen year old that lived in Europe or Japan. Even though automatics are far more advanced than a manual transmission, that doesn't make them superior because manual have...

...Finding Love in the Wreckage: Estimating Spousal Altruism with Data on Fatal Car Accidents Ilya Beylin, Anup Malani, and David Abrams1 Abstract. This paper estimates the degree of altruism among spouses by examining how often the driver of a car sacrifices himself or herself in order to save a spouse. Holding constant the magnitude of a collision, a driver can maneuver the car to distribute the risk from a collision between the driver and a passenger. We quantify spousal altruism by the degree to which drivers riding with their spouse redistribute the risk from a fatal accident to themselves – as measured by ex post mortality – as compared to drivers not traveling with their spouse. We find that drivers with their spouses are at least 37% more likely to sacrifice themselves. This implies that they value the lives of their spouses at least 37% more than the lives of other individuals. A driver’s position in a car provides him with exclusive control over the pedals and steering wheel. At the time of an impending accident, this control enables him to adjust the total amount of risk facing the car’s occupants and how that risk is distributed. In other words, his maneuvers will have allocative and distributive effects on the occupants’ risk. The driver’s distributive choices reveal his relative preferences for himself over his passengers. The manifestation of injuries amongst the occupants allows observation of those relative preferences. A theory of spousal altruism – indeed any...

...#1 Current Event Summary A car accident happened in New York, where an old couple’s car got hit by a young driver. The old couple’s car was following the traffic rules--they were driving under a green light. However, the young driver did not stop his car even though the traffic light had its red light. As a result, the couple got killed. After a thorough investigation, the police found out that the driver was intoxicated before and while driving. Relevant Terms Alcohol (7): Alcohol is a depressant, which means that it slows down the body system, especially the autonomic nervous system. The driver was intoxicated before the accident, which means that the driver’s autonomic system was depressed when his car hit the couple’s car. The driver’s...

MC QU EEN Updated Oct. 23, 2008 12:01 a.m. ET Toyota Yaris 5-Door Hatchback Wieck/Toyota This year's higher gasoline prices are prompting drivers to switch to smaller, more fuel-efficient cars. The trouble is, some of the money they save may be going to higher insurance premiums. Small cars generally cost more to insure than larger ones because they're involved in more accidents and incur bigger claims, especially for injuries. That's true regardless of the driver profile, though younger and less-experienced drivers tend to buy smaller, cheaper cars. A 40-year-old male driver would pay an average of $1,704 to insure a 2009 Mini Cooper that gets 37 miles per gallon on the highway, according to a study by Insure.com, an online insurance broker. That same driver would pay only $1,266 -- a difference of $438 -- to insure a Toyota Sienna Minivan, which gets 23 mpg. Similarly, a Honda Civic compact that gets 36 mpg on the highway costs $412 more a year to insure than a Honda CR-V, a small sport-utility...

...Driverless cars – is it safe to take the human out of the loop? From the beginning of the world humans always wanted to make their life easier. They produced more and more complicated tools for hunting, then for harvesting and other branches of human activity – these tools allowed them to make their job without using their bare hands. Time was passing, humanity was evolving newer technologies, people knew more and more about the world and laws that rule it. But one thing that every human-being wanted the most was faster way of travelling. The first step was inviting wheel. Later humans built carts, coaches and many other vehicles propelled with animal’s or person’s strength. But still it was too slow and too less automatic for people. The change came in 1769, when Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot presented his steam vehicle. Then everything started to evolve faster – and we step to nowadays, where we have many different types of cars, even the ones fueled by water or electricity. In our century, where artificial intelligence isn’t a Sci-Fi subject only but also reality, people started to think about using it in car’s safety and driving system’s development. One of the results is Google’s self-driving car, which is travelling in states of Nevada, Florida and California, where autonomous vehicles are already legalized. This technology is evolving all the time and maybe there will come the day where whole world will be able to use such kind of cars. But there comes the question – is it safe...

...to increase the legal driving age should be passed so that we can have more safe drivers on the roads. For one thing, passing a bill increasing the driving age would be a good thing because we need more experienced drivers on the roads. With more experienced driver on the road, there would be less accidents and less wrong way drivers. In today's time, wrong way drivers are what often cause a lot of accidents. "Common mistakes of inexperienced drivers are that they are too slow and they fail to yield the right of way" (roadtestready.com). With slow drivers that fail to yield the right of way to vehicles could be a danger to drivers throughout the state. Moreover, texting and driving is also a main reason why teens get into accidents. According to Zoe Schuler on (impactteendrivers.com), she says "when you're...

...storage system (RESS) and a fuel based power source for vehicle propulsion. These vehicles use much less fuel than their counterparts and produce less emissions. Hybrid vehicles recharge their batteries by capturing kinetic energy through regenerative braking. Some hybrids use the combustion engine to generate electricity by spinning a generator to either recharge the battery or directly feed power to an electric motor that drives the vehicle. This takes place when cruising or in other situations where just light thrust is needed.” (Orloff) Hybrid Car Advantages Clean energy. An electric motor together with a gas powered engine make a vehicle that has lower emissions and better gas mileage. It conserves energy while having the power of a standard engine. Performance improvements. New technologies allow hybrids the same kind of performance as normal cars, and they are continuing to develop, improving efficiency, getting better mileage, and reducing emissions even further. Incentives. Varying from state to state and federally, hybrids may come with a tax benefit and savings in the form of much less money spent on fuel. Regenerative braking. Each time you brake, the battery is recharged a little, eliminating the need for stopping to recharge the battery periodically. Lower fossil fuel dependence. Because hybrids are much cleaner and require less fossil fuel to run them, they ultimately help to reduce the dependence on foreign oil and do their...

...How Autonomous Cars Can Change Transportation Autonomous cars are the new and upcoming buzz in the vehicle world as well as a very controversial topic in public and road safety. It is the newest innovation to come to the vehicle world since the “push to start” button replacing the ignition system with a key. Autonomous cars, more commonly known as self driving cars, have been sparking arguments against why normal cars, where a human manually drives and has full control of the vehicle, are safer than these autonomous cars that are controlled by an artificial intelligence(AI) program, which is pretty much a robot. There are different statistics that show the differences in safety and travel time between the two. Autonomous cars can and are improving road safety and traffic times. They can do this by having father reaction times and reflexes than a human driver. If a public highway is opened just for autonomous cars, or even just a lane, traffic times and be significantly cut down since they will be able to travel at faster speeds with...

...NASCAR and Formula 1 Both have their roots in the car races of the early 1900's. The European races of the 20's and 30's for Formula 1 and the beach course races at Daytona Beach, Florida in the 30's. Formula One is open wheel racing, meaning simply that the cars' wheels are open, or not covered by the skin of the vehicle. The sport is basically technology driven. Manufacturers spend time and money in research and development to produce new parts construction materials to make their cars faster than the next guy. The courses are generally road courses, a term meaning that the course consists of left and right turns as well as straights. As mentioned by others Formula 1 races are sometimes run on courses made of blocked off city streets. They also race in the rain and use a different type of fuel. Formula 1 races take place all over the world. NASCAR is stock car racing, meaning that the cars are loosely based on 4 door sedans currently in production by the auto makers that compete in the series; Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, and Toyota starting in 2007. The cars do use older technology, but they are meant to emulate the classic American hot rods. It's the idea of taking what you have and doing enough modifications to beat the other guy. Although, in NASCAR, those modifications must meet the standards and fit the rules. They compete on many different tracks, although most are considered oval. There are many configurations though; ovals, tri-ovals, quad-ovals, nearly rectangular...
