...Does Polluted Water Hurts the Environment? Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Abstract Water pollution is the worst problem that the United States and other nations are facing today. Although, many people have known this issue, they are still contributing to it. People need to become more responsive on this issue by complying on several ways to prevent water pollution. The chemical industry and factory farms need to follow the guidelines of operating their business, by using proper disposal methods for hazardous materials and waste materials. Chemical industry and factory farms need to follow the guidelines behind water pollution. To begin with, factory farms should be regulated accordingly. They must obtain permits, monitor water quality and pay for cleaning up and disposing of their waste. Also, factory farms must strengthen their new technology standards. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) must consider recent technological advances that significantly reduce pathogens. In addition, residents and local government should get involved and must have a say in whether to allow factory farms in their communities. The public also has the right to review and comment on the contents of pollution reduction plans and to enforce the terms, when a factory farm is in violation. How Did Miles Move?

...The two major instruments heard in this piece are of course the trumpet, played by Miles Davis and Bill Evans on the piano. Also making an appearance on this song are "Cannonball" Adderley the alto saxophonist and James Cobb on the drums. Although not danceable, this song sets a nice, relaxing tone that soothes every part of your body throughout its long lasting nine and a half minutes. This song is taken from the album "Kind of Blue" mentioned earlier. Towards the end of the tune I noticed that he began to play a familiar tune comforting to the ear. As we move on the next tune is short, compared to the others, and goes by the title of Round Midnight. It begins with a very slow, mellow, and mysterious sound and you may notice that throughout the song the sound continues to be very serious and dangerously romantic. This piece was taken from the album title Round About Midnight and features John Coltrane as the tenor, Red Garland on the piano, Paul Chambers playing bass, Philly Joe Jones on the drums, and...

...Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, 8 ( 1991 ) 67-83 Elsevier Towards a new theory of innovation management: A case study comparing Canon, Inc. and Apple Computer, Inc. Ikujiro Nonaka Institute of Business Research, Hitotsuhashi University, Kunitachi, Tokyo, Japan Martin Kenney Department of Applied Behavioral Sciences, University of California, Davis, CA 95616, USA Abstract This paper argues that innovation can be best understood as an information process which is then concretized as a product that meets demand. Two very different firms, Canon Inc. and Apple Computer Inc., are used as case study illustrations. Innovation does not proceed through logical deduction, but rather is furthered by the use of metaphors and analogies. The bureaucratic and staid structures of the firm can be challenged and broken up to provide the space for innovations to emerge. The leader’s role in the innovating firm is as a catalyst and facilitator, not as an allknowing despot. The importance of innovations is not merely in the new product, but also the “ripple” effects of innovations which can propel the firm into a self-renewal process. Keywords: Innovation management, High-technology, Case study. 1. Introduction Increasingly, corporate competitive success is hinging upon the effective management of innovation. Innovation has been the object of considerable academic study from a variety of perspectives. However, innovations are usually considered as objects. We...

...Universality of Art -An interview with Djibrirou Kane Ottawa University Abstract An artist was interviewed for the Art/Expression breadth essay. In this essay, the interviewee is presented with various questions that span from thematic subjects of his artwork and what region had the most influence on his various paintings. This interview was repeated twice. Moreover, I ask the interviewee what drove him to express himself using this art form; he explains that it was due to his belief that fine arts have the farthest reaching and most lasting effect on human beings, as the saying goes “a picture is worth a thousand words”. Furthermore, the paper explores the artist’s tributes and recognitions of other forms of art(s) and his appreciation of the women and mothers of the region he hails from, as well as women across the globe. Universality of Art – An interview with Djibrirou Kane Art and self-expression have always been present in human populations, as many of the discovered cave paintings that are thousands of years old have clearly revealed. He is a professional painter but also does a collage of artwork. He, for instance, mixes media art and draws, but refers to himself as predominantly a painter. The discussion on his artwork will...

Credit Default Swaps

...Spencer Whitworth Ryan Scoville Austin Gray CTP 1: Credit Default Swaps With the financial crisis behind us, it is worth asking whether Credit Default Swaps (CDSs) were a positive development in our economic system. Many blamed the interconnections generated by primary and secondary CDS trading for the implosions that occurred in 2007, when the underlying assets on which the majority of CDSs were based - mortgage-backed securities - began to default. The media agreed, labeling CDSs with terms such as “weapons of mass financial destruction.” There are a number of aspects to CDSs, however, that skeptics and pundits overlooked. While history and intuition suggest important risks associated with CDSs that issuers, owners, and regulators must consider, there are a number of unexpected ways CDSs improve debt capital markets and our economy as a whole. On balance, these benefits shed optimistic perspectives on the merits of CDSs. If markets can learn from past mistakes, the advantages of CDSs render them indispensable financial instruments that contribute to better financing and information-gathering capability in our economy. Contrary to popular belief, the conceptual underpinnings of credit default swaps (CDSs) are surprisingly similar to those of traditional insurance policies. CDSs arose out of an ordinary transaction: a 1994 deal between J.P. Morgan, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and ExxonMobil. In return for an insurance-style premium to...

Discussion In today’s era, the crucial influence with regard to the concept of information is borrowed from information theory that was developed by Shannon alongside others. In reality there are two metaphors being used and which are contradictory: the popular information as quantity, e.g. water flowing though pipe, is working, but then it’s called metaphor of information as choice, done by information provider and forced choice done by: information receiver.
