“I've been drinking, I've been drinking” (Beyoncé 1). This is the first verse of Beyoncé’s new song” Drunk In love” featuring her husband, Jay-Z. This first verse presents the beginning of the provocative lyrics which use street slang to speak about sexual acts, domestic abuse, and intoxication. Children, teenagers and adults alike listen to and look up to Beyoncé, the world wide sensation, but some may not even realize what she is actually stating in her lyrics and how they can impact youths to believe that it is proper to engage in these acts.

Throughout the song Beyoncé sings about how drunk she and Jay Z are after being out all night partying at a club: "How the hell did this shit happen? Oh baby, drunk in love we be all night.
Last thing I remember is our beautiful bodies grinding up in the club” (17-19). In these lyrics she sings about being intoxicated and “grinding” which is provocatively dancing while pushing up on each other’s bodies. She goes on to sing: “Boy, I'm drinking, Park it in my lot 7-11
I'm rubbing on it, rub-rubbing, if you scared, call that reverend” (26-28). In these lyrics she continues to address how intoxicated she is and how she wants to have sex with Jay-Z referring to “7-11”, which is a convenience store open all night, meaning she wants to have sex all night.
She entices him by “rubbing on it” which is referring to his privates and is basically saying if he is scared to “call that reverend “and start praying.

Beyoncé continues to sing about their sexual acts, referring to Jay-Z as a “surfboard” in the following lyrics:”Then I fill the tub up halfway then ride it with my surfboard, surfboard, surfboard, Graining on that wood, graining, graining on that wood. I'm swerving on that, swerving, swerving on that big body. Been serving all this, swerve, surfing all in this good,
good”(33-37).

Theme in Literature

...views and attitudes toward a subject of the story. By sharing these views, it helps someone distinguish or open up to new ways of thinking and feeling. To demonstrate, the theme in Raymond Carver's short story "What We Talk When We Talk About Love" portrays multiple themes, which are love, language and communication, marriage, drugs and alcohol, and violence. Although themes are not directly presented, you can derive an idea or the evidence of what the theme may be from the characters, actions, and settings that formulate the story. For example, based on the what the characters of What We Talk About When We Talk About Love are trying to define as love, you can formulate that one of the themes are the elusive nature of love. For instance, Mel says, " I was going to tell you something. I mean, I was going to prove a point. You see, this happened a few months ago, but it's still going on right now, and it ought to make us feel ashamed when we talk about love like we know what we're talking about when we talk about love" (p. 729). He is saying that even though they speak on the meaning of love like they really know what it is, he is pretty sure none of the couples actually know what they are trying to say. He tries to precisely define love by telling a story about an elderly couple that almost died in a car accident. The ending result of his story ended up being that the old man was depressed because he was wrapped in...

Bad Parent In August Wilson's Fences

...dominant examples to prove he’s a bad parent. He doesn’t support his children in their dreams, he’s never shown that he loves his children, he’s an alcoholic, and when he’s drunk Troy gets aggressive towards Cory. One way Troy demonstrates he’s a bad parent is by not supporting his children in their dreams. “Papa done went up to the school and told coach Zellman I can’t play football no more. Wouldn’t let me play the game told him to tell the recruiter not to come.” (Wilson, 57). In the play Troy and his youngest son Cory fight many times about football. Cory is a talented athlete who enjoys football and wants to play for his high school team. Troy on the other hand doesn’t approve, he believes that black people don’t get the same opportunities as whites. While he may be talented he will never make it as an athlete out in the world. It still doesn’t justify why Troy can’t support Cory and let him play football....

Shakespear

... A Midsummer Night's Dream. Love can be known to be crazy and complicated. love has many different aspects to it and it can be understood to be magical and a beautiful thing, as well as vise versa. love is known to have many powers and Shakespeare is very interested in both magic itself and love. These two things in A Midsummer Night's Dream are greatly connected. This is why I think that the magical and surreal world Shakespeare creates in his play, reflects the almost supernatural power of love. The things that he creates within his text to embody this are the love potion, the "dreams", the double worlds, and the forests. the love potion and magic itself that are woven within the play makes some characters feel love drunk, confused, or under the influence. the first example of this is when Demetrius thinks he's in love with Helena while under the potions powers, when you can tell from the beginning of the play he really is not. "O Helena, goddess, nymph, perfect, divine! To what my love shall I compare thine eyne." (3.2.137-138) This piece of text evidence shows exactly the powers of this plant. The potion on Demetrius makes him think that he is in love with Helena, but he doesn't realize that he is under the influence of this potion, leaving him confused and not sure of his real feelings for Hermia. Another thing that involves the love potion and reflects the actions of being drunk is when Oberon orders puck to put the love potion onto Tatania's eyes. "Ill watch...

...Do You Believe in Miracles? Drinking is a thing that is very common in today’s society but there are many people that form drinking problems. I want to share with you a story that changed the life of many people just because of one little five year old boy. My grandfather was a drunk that would beat on his wife and neglect his family until his grandson that said just a few words that opened his eyes to a better life. First of all, my papaw had a real bad drinking habit. He would stumble one foot after another in to the house late at night. When he was drunk he would beat my grandmother black and blue. There were many occasions that it was so bad that my grandmother wouldn’t be able to stand the very next morning. She dreaded hearing him walk up the steps then turning that gold key to unlock the back door. She would never report him because her love grew so deep for him that she couldn’t see right past what was in front of her. Second, as time went on he was given to chance to raise two daughters. He would stay out late almost every night drinking until he couldn’t any more. He would call my grandmother to pick him up in a bar on the outskirts of town. His daughters would sit in the old beat up car frightened as could be watching their mom drag their father out of the bar. He would holler and slam into things as he tried to make his way through his raging path. My grandmother didn’t have anyone to watch her girls so she was forced to leave them in the car to watch him...

How to Prevent Drinking and Driving

...driving has become a big issue. Many people drink and drive every weekend. People have to know that it is wrong, so why do people do it? There are many ways that accidents can be prevented from drinking and driving. We just need to think of ways that will stop people from drinking and driving and have an alternative for them to turn to. Caroline county is a small town with nothing to do. People have to drive thirty minutes at least out of their way just to keep themselves entertained. One option that we can do to stop people from drinking and driving would be to build a movie theater, everyone loves the movies. The movie theater would be a place for families, kids and teenagers to go, even a place for couples to go on dates. This would stop people from going to parties more and from drinking and driving. Another option could be a shopping outlet. It is something fun to do and everyone loves new clothes. The outlets could be open until eleven o’clock so then it would be too late for people to go out and drink. In the outlets there could be restaurants, nail places, clay bakers and an arcade so everything that a person needed would be right there in one spot. If we had a bowling alley in our community than people could get a group of friends together and be able to go midnight bowling. This would keep people from drinking and going to parties later. They could make just a teens night at the bowling alley and just an adults night. That way teenagers parents couldn’t show up and...

Why Are Car Wrecks Important

...Daily in the United States we lose people to fatal car crashes caused from reckless driving, drunk driving, and speeding. Car wrecks are the number one leading cause of death in the United States today to make the percentage of death by car wrecks go down we need to have have harder consequences on people that break those laws. What is more important to you, driving safely and saving someone’s life or driving how you want to and taking someone’s life or possibly even your own? People lose friends and family daily from car crashes and never get justice for their death, car wrecks affect everyone around people in the crashes, and tickets and license points do not stop people from driving how they want to so we need stronger consequences to stop them from that. I think the in the United States today people get away with driving recklessly, speeding, and drunk driving and we need to create a stronger law and consequence to stop people from causing these deadly crashes. I along with many other people want to stop people from being so careless with their driving decisions. Most people will eventually have a license and a car and...

Bullfights in the Sun Also Rises

...Bullfights in The Sun Also Rises Do some research into Hemingway’s life and you will find he had a great love for Spain, including bullfighting, wine, and fiestas. He shows his love of the fight in his writings such as The Sun Also Rises and For Whom the Bell Tolls. In The Sun Also Rises he not only talks about the bulls, but his characters can be compared to bulls or steers. It is a deep symbolism that shows Hemingway’s views on gender roles and androgyny in the 1920’s. Jake Barnes, the main character, is a WWI veteran who was rendered impotent during the war. This is the main reason he cannot be with the woman he loves, Lady Brett Ashley. Hemingway portrays him as a man with masculine interests like fishing, bullfighting, and drinking. Though he is shown this way, rather than being like a bull, Jake is considered a steer. Jake is calm, a peacekeeper between his friends just as a steers in bullfighting rings are used to calm the bulls. Jake considers himself an outcast, just as steers are not the main part of bullfights. Lady Brett Ashley would be considered a steer at first glance, but as the story progresses it is clear that she is a symbol of a bull. She is quite possibly the most masculine character in the book. When Hemingway first describes Brett, he describes that “she wore a slipover jersey sweater and a tweed skirt, and her hair was brushed back like a boy’s” (Hemingway 22). This gives off a very masculine image, especially considering they lived in a time where...
