Bursar’s Office Frequently Asked Questions 1. When Will I receive my refund? Refunds are dispersed to the student’s Higher One account differently according to what your schedule is and the source of your refund. Students must be attempting at least six credit hours(in most cases) for their refund to be processed. If a student’s sixth credit hour does not start until July semester, he/she will not receive their refund until July. Additionally, HOPE based refunds will not be disbursed until July. June refunds will be disbursed by June 15th and July refunds will be disbursed around July 10. Please call the Bursar’s Office if you have any issues or questions concerning your refund. 2. What is a FERPA form and why do I need one for my parents to discuss my account? A FERPA form is a form legally granting the student’s parents access to their school records. This includes such things as fees and tuition dues, loans, and other personal information. Each student is viewed as an adult by the University, and thus must grant permission for his/her records to be released. Note: There may be several FERPA forms to be filled out across campus. The Bursar’s Office FERPA form ONLY pertains to fees, tuition, and other payment related information. 3. Does the University of West Georgia offer payment plans? Board of Regents policy forbids the University from offering a payment plan. Please visit the USG website at www.usg.edu for more information. 4. What is the $300 dollar “non drop” rule? How long do I have to pay the debt? The $300 “no drop” rule was originated for keeping students who had received a parking ticket, health fee, or other smaller fee from getting dropped.
