Dynamic Duo In Sports

Sports breakups are one of the most depressing and disheartening events for a fan. For instance in the early 2000s NBA seasons, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal of the Los Angeles Lakers were the most dominant duo in basketball history, having won three championship rings in a row. But then the iconic duo fell apart, broke into pieces after O’Neal and Bryant made it clear they never wanted to play with each other ever again. Both went their separate ways and still had success, but the thought of that super duo lingered within the minds of sports analysts everywhere. How many more championships could they have won? How would they stack up against all time greatest duos like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen? These questions endured in the minds of many — and still do — since sports breakups continue to occur, but the biggest question has always been this: who leaves better off? …show more content…
James Harden from the Houston Rockets and Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunders were once the backcourt duo on the Thunder back in 2012. Unfortunately due to a fallout between Harden and the organization, he went to the Rockets, leaving Westbrook along with the other superstar Kevin Durant to lead the team. This dynamic duo failed to last at least a couple of years, and the potential plays and cohesion Harden and Westbrook could have created makes this breakup hurt even more. Harden has been able to shine as the Rockets’ carry, and since Durant left the Thunder during the 2016 offseason, Westbrook also has the opportunity to be the superstar to prove his dominance against Harden. By comparing the two, we can see which of these superstars has become the better “top dog” of their team and see who was left better off after their

...Physician Groups: A Changing Landscape Final Report Team Four: Fearless Leaders Leading Healthcare Organizations May 10, 2015 Rachel Gutman Josh Freeman Brad Mountcastle Alicia Spitznagel I. Executive Summary Physician care is the cornerstone of patient health and could possibly be the gateway to comprehensive wellness on a national scale. Research demonstrates that a monumental shift is underway in America’s physician industry as more and more doctors are “voting with their feet” and curtailing their practices by joining larger institutions, retiring early or joining concierge medicine (Rabin, 2014). Studies show that physicians are frustrated with our current ‘value by number’ system; they argue that they are overworked due to discounted insurance payments and increasing oversight. Our research foretells two alarming trends within the US physician landscape. The first concern is that there will be a shortage in primary-care physicians as early as the year 2020 and secondly, most medical practices will be owned by a hospital or affiliated with a large network within the next ten years (Kirchoff, 2013). The former concern places population health at risk and could reduce access to care while the latter has the potential to increase overall costs and reduce competition and innovation in the health care industry. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) marks a milestone in our nation’s history; it requires every U.S. citizen to obtain medical insurance or pay...

Nike Inc.: Developing an Effective Public Relations Strategy

...February 9th/12 Summary Nike Inc. started as a venture between Phil Knight, current CEO, and Bill Bowerman. At the time Knight was a student at the University of Oregon and Bowerman was the University track and field coach. The company, originally named Blue Ribbon Sports, did not officially get started until 1964 when Knight, who pursued a MBA at Stanford, graduated. Blue Ribbon Sports started making athletic footwear after the two men took a trip to Japan to source a manufacturer for the high performance athletic shoes that Bowerman had been designing. The first shoe created by the duo helped University of Oregon runners break track and field records. After those first initial models were produced Knight started selling the shoes out of the trunk of his car, as he would travel to various track and field events. He was also employed as a certified public accountant and professor at Portland State University during the early years of Blue Ribbon Sports. The first shoe under the Nike name was released in 1972, known as the Cortez, and it became extremely popular immediately. As the company, now known as Nike, progressed Knight and Bowerman started to invest largely in research and development and a dynamic organizational culture. One of the things that made them successful was the outsourcing of offshore manufacturing in Japan. In the mid 80’s Nike’s manufacturing focus started to shift to alternative locations for production, those being Taiwan and Korea. Following the industry...

Strategic Management at the Walt Disney Company

...Identify an episode of strategic change for an organisation of your own choice. How appropriate was the approach to strategic change given the issues faced by the organisation? Critically evaluate the effectiveness of the strategic leadership during the change process. Identify the impact of the change episode upon the key resources and core competencies of your organisation. This paper will analyse a recent period of strategic change at The Walt Disney Company which began in 2005 with the appointment of current CEO Robert Iger. The company began to experience halted growth during the late 1990s. The former CEO Michael Eisner had been successful himself in the late 1980s in changing the company during what is known as the Disney Renaissance. Eisner successfully concentrated the company’s energy back into producing animated films and helped the company to create now-classic names such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin and others. However starting in 1999 share prices began to fall as changes in Disney’s competitive environment, consumer preferences and technology combined to alter its strategic context – which posed problems for the company in aligning its strategic objectives with its organisational structure and culture. Eisner was well known for his micromanagement and top down approach to management (Gunther, 1999), which served the company well during the 1990s when he could focus on single brands. The production of animated feature films...
