Sylvester Stallone was born with dyslexia and he struggled with it when he was young, but he overcame it like many people.
Dyslexia is the disability of mixing up words and their sounds (Moragne 9). Dyslexics suffer from both physical and mental symptoms throughout their life. They suffer from low self esteem by being made fun of and rejected by other people (73). When they sometime speak, they cannot find the right words to say (30). Dyslexics also have problems remembering things like somebody's name (Bronswick 46). Some dyslexic children and grown ups also have problems with spelling and reading. Sometimes dyslexics has troubles with figuring out which letter makes which sound (25) . Many people with dyslexia also struggle in school (Moragne …show more content…
People with dyslexia need to take longer to analyze symbols and signs (Bronswick 55). Some children with dyslexia can say a word but not spell it, or they can spell a word but not say it. Children with dyslexia can not copy notes from the teacher or they do not understand the notes or lecture the teacher puts down (Moragne 53). The only type of instruction dyslexics children can really follow is direct instructions that that child can do (40). Children with dyslexics need extra help with work too (31). Children with dyslexia also are not as good as children without dyslexia athletically, artistically, and musically (21). Over forty million Americans are affected in America by dyslexia (ALS). out of that, Five to fifteen percent of the world is diagnosed with dyslexia (Bronswick …show more content…
For teaching children with dyslexia how to read, let them read at a comfortable level. Use books on tape or watch videos or other educational T.V. to help teach the child how to read (Moragne 56). To improve written work, use tape recorders to help copy down sentences. Avoid lectures and note taking, for that would be to hard on the child. Give the child extra time to work on homework, and also hand out less work (58-61). You can help the child build a positive self-image. Help him or her set responsible goals that he or she can do. Also let the child join clubs, do volunteer work, or even get a job to help raise the self image (75-80). You can give that child, or any person, help from friends and family members. Give him or her homework help, give simple accomplishable instructions, and even help find that person a talent or hobby (70). In school seat kids with dyslexia at the front of the class so she or he can focus better and provide structure and clarity (61). For tests, give that child extra time to work on it and make it an oral tests to make it a little easier on them (57). Children with dyslexia are more successful with individual instructions than group instructions (42). For reading, introduce the sounds of the alphabet to children with dyslexia. It brings awareness that letter represent sounds (Bronswick 25). Make a list for the child so the child does not forgets to do anything (Moragne 46). Challenge the
