E-Commerce Site Comparison An effective e-commerce website I would like to overview is reebok.com there are several factors that make this a successful site. The first is the usability, e-commerce is all about the communication of parties electronically, if a potential client is unable to easily use the website and find information they deem important than the website is destined to fail. I like that the website’s search bar is right up top and is the second thing you see after the logo. Sometimes you just want to type in exactly what you are looking for and go. This leads to another important aspect of an e-commerce website which is navigation. This website has 5 of the biggest categories such as Men, Women, Kids sports apparel right up top. Navigation is the ability of a client or potential client to go from screen to screen on the website and the ease of purchasing from that website. The next important feature is color, this is pretty self-explanatory but could easily be overlooked when a designer or company is building a website. Reebok.com does a great job of using color in the home screen to catch the consumer’s attention and get them interested in their products and promotions. In the “Rally” photo it shows a female runner at night in a pink sweater which shows a lot of contrast and is a nicely done photo. Choosing the correct colors could have an important role in gaining the attention of a consumer and encouraging them to keep coming back to the website. Give an example in your answer. The overall design of the website is simple yet gives the viewer the ability to explore and find out from athlete spokespersons or how the sports apparel is made. The call to action is subtle but is able to be found easily, encouraging the viewer to “join” by entering an email address and date of birth to receive promotions and further marketing efforts. A website I found to be not very effective is Uglytub.com. A combination of flashing poor quality imagery, tiny fonts and garish colors in conjunction with the limiting frames that minimize the site to a small window in the center of the screen. Unlike Reebok.com this website is hard to read and use. The photos are not done and looks very amateur. There is ease in the navigation but this only shows more the issues this website has as far as color and presentation. Color used on this website vibrates off the page and the changes in the font sizes within the same page is very unsightly. Reebok.com encourages the viewer to visit the website repeatedly while Uglytub.com probably is driving any potential clients off the page never to return. I believe the two most important characteristics of a website is the overall design and usability. As you can see with Reebok.com the overall design is well thought out and developed. The Uglytub.com seems to be the opposite, in that it feels rushed and done as an afterthought to the business. The usability is also very important. The order and ease of use for Reebok.com is prominent and makes the viewer want to explore the website. On Uglytub.com the information seems to be all over the homepage and not very orderly. Just by looking at both these website’s home pages you can gather which is probably more effective as far as attracting traffic and attention. Reebok.com shows a photo that is well positioned and graphically enhanced while the Uglytub.com shows an image of a tub that is not well blended to the background and looks very roughly imposed.
