First off the article was about the history of racial injustice, and prosecuting children on the equal justice initiative. The article was giving great information about The Court’s ban on juvenile executions. Which allowed EJI to focus on nearly 3000 children who had been sentenced to death row that were 17 and younger, or been sentenced to imprisonment until death. One thing in the article that I think is really nice of them is when the article says “EJI believes that such a harsh sentence imposed on children is cruel and unusual in violation of the Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Otherwise it was a nonviolent crime so why should they be tried as adults when they are just a child trying to get by in life. They should still do the time for the crime they committed but not life in prison. Another situation like a drug lord or something that involves illegal drugs then yes they can receive life in prison. But overall unless the crime is going to hurt others, they shouldn’t receive life in prison for a nonviolent crime.

Just like in the article I think that it’s cruel to charge these little kids, children as young as eight have be tried as adults and that’s really not okay. Overall I believe that children under the age of 17 should not be tried as adults for non violent crimes. Now if we are talking about murder and manslaughter and like setting a fire with people inside then they can get adult charges, like the famous saying “do the crime, do the
