Eagle Ford Shale The eagle ford shale is one of the largest active plays in the United States and spans an extremely large swath of south Texas. Eagle Ford’s produces from a rather large range of depths ranging from 4,000 feet to 14,000 feet (KED Interests). While its incredible size is one of the things that makes it an important area of exploration and production, the fact that it produces both oil and gas makes it invaluable despite the much lower value of natural gas. Eagle Ford’s geology is composed of high carbonate shale. This makes the source rock much more brittle than traditional sandstone plays. Recent advances in drilling technology have made it possible …show more content…
This ranges from 60% to 80% compared to conventional gas reservoir decline of 25% to 40% within the first year (Hayatdavoudi). This is due to chemical makeup of the shale where it contains a large of amount of clay. The chemistry of clays makes it so that it reacts rather aggressively with water and absorbs it due to its high capillary suction pressure and this prevents the slick water from returning after fracking (Hayatdavoudi). In order to combat this issue, shale needed to be better understood quantitatively. This led to the research and development of theories that better explain the correlation between different properties of shales such as the Hayatdavoudi Hydration Index (Hayatdavoudi). Based on Dr. Hayatdavoudi’s research, shale swelling is the main culprit in the reduction of shale conductivity. This is caused by clays absorbing water and expanding enough that they simply clog up the pores and cut off pathways for the gas to travel. This causes already trapped gas to become even more difficult to extract. One of the solutions developed to combat this extreme loss of production is a method called “shale pickling.” This involves drilling the well and performing hydraulic fracturing normally but, immediately after the fluid has been pressurized into the pores, shutting in the well for a period of time. This has the effect of causing the …show more content…
The decline in production after the first month in the life of a well has significantly decreased. The chart below shows how production has changed since 2009 and it shows a clear trend towards much higher initial production rates and lower production decline after the first month. This is due to the use of proppants such as sand or other materials. These materials are used to keep the created fractures open longer and have significantly increased initial production rates. Unfortunately, this is still followed by a steep decline in production before leveling off towards a gradual decline (Energy Information

Fracking and the Eagle Ford Shale

...19th 2013 NPRE 101 – INTRODUCTION TO ENERGY SOURCES END OF TERM PAPER PROF. RUZIC HYDRAULIC FRACTURING AND THE EAGLE FORD SHALE Patricio Calles Almeida – UIN 651559726 Everyone knows that the urge to find an alternative to fossil fuels is one of the top priorities of technology researchers and scientists. We also know that the United States is becoming more and more dependable on foreign resources as the national ones are running low. However, fossil fuels are still the only cost-effective sources of them all. You could argue that hydroelectric and nuclear power are on the rise, but the first one does not produce large scale amounts of energy and the latter requires a huge initial investment with long waits until returns and profits; all the previous makes these sources not really convenient in developing countries, the ones that ironically need is the most. That’s why fossil fuel sources will continue to dominate the energy scene for the next decades, at least. In this context, I want to focus my paper on hydraulic fracturing, fracking. Actually, more specifically, the absolute focus will be to relate this modern method of oil and natural gas extraction with the Eagle Ford Shale, located in South Texas. Specifications and characteristics that make this shale so appealing for fracking will be a part of the following analysis. Overall, the shale is one that could be the biggest production center of oil and natural gas of the US and bring lots of economic benefits...

...EIA/ARI World Shale Gas and Shale Oil Resource Assessment   SHALE GAS AND SHALE OIL RESOURCE ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY INTRODUCTION This report sets forth Advanced Resources’ methodology for assessing the in-place and recoverable shale gas and shale oil resources for the EIA/ARI “World Shale Gas and Shale Oil Resource Assessment.” The methodology relies on geological information and reservoir properties assembled from the technical literature and data from publically available company reports and presentations. This publically available information is augmented by internal (nonconfidential) proprietary prior work on U.S. and international shale gas and shale oil resources by Advanced Resources International. The report should be viewed as an initial step toward future, more comprehensive assessments of shale gas and shale oil resources. As additional exploration data are gathered, evaluated and incorporated, the assessments of shale oil and gas resources will become more rigorous. RESOURCE ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY The methodology for conducting the basin- and formation-level assessments of shale gas and shale oil resources includes the following five topics: 1. Conducting preliminary geologic and reservoir characterization of shale basins and formation(s).  2. Establishing the areal extent of the major shale gas and shale oil formations.  3. Defining the prospective area for each shale gas and shale oil formation.  4. Estimating the risked shale gas and shale...

We think we're making smart, rational choices. But are we? In a series o f illuminating, often surprising experi ments, M I T behavioral economist Dan Ariely refutes the common assumption that we behave in fundamentally rational ways. Blending everyday experience with ground breaking research, Ariely explains how expectations, emotions, social norms, and other invisible, seemingly illogical forces skew our reasoning abilities. N o t only do we make astonishingly simple mistakes every day, but we make the same types of mistakes, Ariely discovers. We consistently overpay, underestimate, and procrastinate. We fail to understand the profound effects of our emotions on what we want, and we overvalue what we already own. Yet these misguided behaviors are neither random nor senseless. They're systematic and predict able—making us predictably irrational...

Supernatural by Brother Branham

...Supernatural: The Life of William Branham Book 6: The Prophet and His Revelation 1960 – 1965 by Owen Jorgensen 1 Acknowledgments: In a project of this magnitude, it is understandable that I should owe many people a debt of gratitude for their help. First of all I want to thank Pearry Green for his vision, his encouragement and his efforts in publishing and distributing these books. I also want to thank Saundra Miles, David Buckley, Jay Weber, and the other people who spent many hours editing and proof reading the six manuscripts in this series. Their suggestions helped to make this a better book and a more accurate account of William Branham‘s life. Also, I want to thank Steven and Kathy Strooh, who put these books into audio format for all those people who would rather listen than read. I must certainly thank those people who have translated these books into their native languages: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Norwegian, Hindi, and many other languages. Supernatural: the Life of William Branham took me 17 years to complete. I was 34 when I started and 51 when I finished. To put that into perspective, my four children were in grade school when I began writing this biography. By the time I finished, three of my children were married and I had nine grandchildren. During the 17 years I worked on this project, my life had its ups and downs. I want to thank everyone who prayed for me during those 17 years. Finally I want to thank my four children—Benaiah...
