I thought of my accomplishments and I figured I was missing something. I had a job, but I knew it was going to be a dead end one. I was already a high school graduate, so I thought why not go back to college and further my education. I was on the road to success, after that idea. Choosing my program was not hard for me. I have a long line of family members that are in the health field. So why not I thought, I would be following in the footsteps of my elders so they can feel that they have set an example for me. I decided on becoming a Medical Assistant. This way I could still set my goal in pursuing me education and apply for better jobs upon graduating. I have always loved to help people. Communicating and meeting new people are my strong points. I was comfortable with this the whole way thru college. Since, it had been a while since I been back to school. When I started my Medical Assisting courses I was a little reluctant. How would the instructor be like? Would anyone make fun of me if I asked a stupid question? Or would I make any friends? These

Mba Argument

...The decision to pursue my MBA degree was never a difficult one. When I first entered the business world in 1994 I soon knew that in order for me to achieve my personal and professional goals in life further education was going to be necessary. However, I did not think it would have taken me seventeen years to begin my journey to accomplish this goal. So far in my professional life, I would consider myself to be a success. I have worked for three companies since receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in 1994 in two different industries. I have earned accolades and awards for sales and marketing performance from all three companies and I have been told that I am seen as a leader with potential for upward mobility. After taking the Jungian 16-Type Personality test, I received a score of ISFJ. This fits right in line with my past work experience because this test shows that I am loyal and willing to make sacrifices for the greater good. I was surprised to find I was introverted because typically successful sales people are extroverts. They reach out to clients and look for ways to connect with people where introverts mostly keep to themselves. However, during the last few years my personal job satisfaction has been low and the pharmaceutical sales industry has been enduring massive layoffs (Brice, 2009). Although, my current company is somewhat “bucking the trend” regarding reducing sales force sizes, I believe that all companies are not immune to the trend. So, the...

Education or Experience? It Depends.

...for Staffing and Selection HRMG 5800, Section 54, taught by Professor Karns. Abstract Can experience make up for the lack of a degree, or does a degree provide something that experience cannot? Is one more valuable than the other? Talk about a discussion that will have you chasing your tail! It's truly a trap debate because the right answer is "it depends". Whether it's a completely strategic discussion about your organization's policies or a discussion involving a specific position and candidate, this issue continually resurfaces at organizations. And depending on what side of the fence you sit, this issue can be very personal and emotional. Obviously, there are specific cases where the question is debatable. If you need a registered professional engineer to approve plans, the degree requirement is a given. If you're a hospital looking for a surgeon, you're probably seeking someone with a PhD in medicine. However, the scope of positions that may or may not require a degree gets gray pretty fast, and the span is pretty wide. And, no industry is immune to this issue. Keywords: experience, degree, organizations, policies, professional, requirement, industry. Education or Experience? It Depends. Take this scenario: Bob and Joe are both applying for the same job. They each interview well, but Bob has 15 years’ experience and no college degree, and Joe is fresh out of college with no experience. Who gets the job? The answer is: it depends. Here are some factors to consider...
