Like the ALF there was an ELF which was the Earth Liberation Front (fbi.gov).There were two terrorist attacks towards this movement. The attacks of the Earth Liberation Front led to a complete destruction of an office complex in Monmouth, Oregon that was eight thousand square foot and also damaged one million dollars’ worth of the Agricultural Hall at Michigan State University located in East Lancing. Neither of these resulted in any human casualties but two of the attacks on the Animal Liberation Front resulted in death of lab animals (fbi.gov). Ever since the 1970’s the terrorist attempted attacks and attacks that happened has become less frequent. During the year of 1982 the president, Ronald Reagan, made the FBI the head agency to be responsible for countering terrorism in the United States. In 1984 the act of comprehensive crime control gave the FBI the authority to make investigations overseas when Americans were taken hostage. The FBI maintained Legal Attaché offices also known as LEGAT in thirty five countries in the world. During the 1990’s alone they opened twenty-three different LEGAT’s. Al-Qaeda hijacked four different airlines and also made suicide attacks against different targets of the United States. There were two of the four planes that flew into the World Trade Center in New York City. One plane hit the Pentagon, which is located just outside of Washington, D.C. and the last plane crashed into a field somewhere in Pennsylvania. This attack ended with a large amount of deaths and destruction which made the United States initiate to combat terrorism. There were a total of over 3,000 deaths during the attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C. Over 400 police officers and firefighters were also killed
