...Write the essay! Think small; build the full essay gradually. Divide your essay into sections and develop each piece separately and incrementally. The Introductory Paragraph * The opening paragraph sets the tone It not only introduces the topic, but where you are going with it (the thesis). If you do a good job in the opening, you will draw your reader into your "experience." Put effort up front, and you will reap rewards. * Write in the active voice It is much more powerful. Do that for each sentence in the introductory essay. Unless you are writing a personal narrative, do not use the pronoun "I." * Varying sentence structure Review to avoid the same dull pattern of always starting with the subject of the sentence. * Brainstorm to find the best supporting ideas The best supporting ideas are the ones about which you have some knowledge. If you do not know about them, you cannot do a good job writing about them. Don't weaken the essay with ineffective argument. * Practice writing introductory paragraphs on various topics Even if you do not use them, they can be compared with the type of writing you are doing now. It is rewarding to see a pattern of progress. Supporting Paragraphs * Write a transition to establish the sub-topic Each paragraph has to flow, one to the next. * Write the topic sentence The transition can be included in the topic sentence. * Supporting ideas, examples, details must be specific to the sub-topic The tendency in supporting paragraphs...

...Graduate School Writing a research proposal for a PhD or MPhil application: A guide for potential students Some Schools and Departments may require you to write an outline research proposal and submit this with your application to study for a PhD or MPhil. The content and structure of the proposal will inevitably vary depending on the discipline area and the nature of the project you wish to pursue. In some cases you may be provided with some guidance in terms of what information should be included in the proposal and, if this is the case, you should read this carefully and follow it. However, where this is not the case, the general guidance, and suggested headings, provided here should help you to structure and present your ideas clearly in your proposal. Your overall aim is to produce a research proposal that is clear and coherent in every respect. You should therefore avoid the use of overly long sentences and of technical jargon. It is important that the proposed research is realistic and feasible so that the outcomes can be achieved within the scale of a typical research degree programme, which is typically three years full-time for a PhD (or two years for an MPhil). Although you should write the proposal yourself, it is best if you discuss its contents with your proposed supervisor before you submit it. Your research question For most projects there is usually one main question that you would like to address, which can sometimes be broken down into several sub-questions...

So, the rules have to be well defined and the interests of all stakeholders adequately protected. Stock markets in India are regulated and monitored by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Its mandate is to work for the betterment of the market and protect investors’ interest. It made several changes in areas such as compliance by listed companies, improving the quality and presentation of information for investors at the time of public issues, and making the grievance redressal system more investor friendly. However, the most important change of the year was the passage of The Companies Act, 2013, which will bring in significant changes in the way companies function and is likely to better protect the interest of shareholders. Among other things, the new law provides details for the buyout of the minority shareholders and simplifies the rules for mergers. Higher education has always been the gateway of accessing higher salary occupation. But the question I have always asked is that does the cost of higher education worth the price? College education is becoming more expensive than ever. Today, it takes 40 percent of their paycheck to go to college. This is an indication that college education cost is on the increase. My uncle Salman was student five year ago, he still paying student loans accrued during his first attempt at completing an undergraduate degree that was defaulted due to the inability to repay the debt. Many college students would feel that college is a waste of money because they do not learn what they want to. Instead they have to take classes that have close to nothing to do with their major but are only taking these classes in Page 2 Order to fulfill a general educational requirement. Higher education could raise the student’s chance of economic success in the future. Some of student should not able to go through college, because they paying for money for college. ...i lovExtra Credit Essay The Tragedy in Savar shows in my opinion what these multinational corporations are all about, the bottom line! Multinationals should be held accountable, they have a responsibility to the people of Savar and other poor countries that they choose to produce their goods in. At the same time multinationals need to keep their investors happy, need to turn a profit quarter after quarter, need to win at all costs. So do I think what happened in Savar is the result of the free market? Absolutely. The truth is it is easy to look at this from a moral standpoint and easily point the finger at these multinationals for allowing these poor working conditions, for choosing to produce their goods in poor countries where the workers are getting paid next to nothing, for not caring enough about the safety of these workers, etc. In reality I’m not sure these multinationals have a choice to do it any other way. We live in a profit driven free market where the bottom line trumps everything else. Companies are evaluated by it, investors are attracted to it, the bottom line is the most important thing and companies are looking for every advantage possible. In a perfect world I would say that the multinationals should learn from this and stay in Savar. They should invest into the production facilities, improve working conditions and safety, and setup a fund for the families who lost loved ones in the incident. The reason I don’t think that will happen is because no one holds...

...Compare and contrast living at home and in the hostel For some students may feel like living at home is more convenient whereas the parents thinks that their kids should live at the hostel. This is because living at home gives students a more independent and personal space to study, living in the hostel offers a convenient academia, which students can use time well. Living in the hostel is like a whole new world for students because there are various kinds of people they can meet. They are more likely being influenced by their friends. They can easily be horse around by paying more attention to their activites rather than to studies. Sometimes there are many different school’s association activities, parties and games. They often attract many boarders to join. What’s worse, these students usually stay up all night and have abnormal sleeping which can affect their studying. On the other hand, living at home they may be controlled by their parents that gives them more time to studies and pay more attention rather than slacking off. But, living in the dormitory tends to contribute to the good studies of those who can manage time well. If students are self-disciplined, they can use the luxury of school’s resource liking laboratories, libraries, and computers to help them study. For one thing, not every family has abundant resources liking universities. Thus living in a dormitory is a good chance to use them when studying. Take English learning for example, boarders can go to the...

... How Our Marketing Research Lead To A Position So Compelling That Consumers Chose Our Client’s Product Over A Larger, Wealthier Competitor CASE STUDY #64 “We are not as broadly distributed as our competition. What can we say - other than „free‟ that will convince consumers to inconvenience themselves and leave (or “walk”) from a retailer that doesn‟t carry our products to a retailer that does?” POINT OF VIEW We never lost sight of the mission: GET THE CUSTOMERS TO PREFER US, EVEN THOUGH WE AREN’T AS WELL DISTRIBUTED OR WEALTHY. The actionable marketing research we conducted enabled us to leap over our competitor’s entrenched, better-distributed brand, craft a message that resonated with the audience, and build preference for our client’s product. Win / Win for everybody except the competition. Situation The client had a great product, but was being outspent by the competition, which also had broader distribution. Our challenge was to craft a concept for the product so unique and compelling, it would encourage consumers to “walk” from a store they typically shop at that carries only the competitor’s product and go to a store that carries the client’s product. Approach Quantitative, qualitative and ethnographic research enabled us to uncover aspects of the client’s product that made it stand out over the competition’s. Then we developed a unique marketing research measurement that tracked awareness, interest, and the actual shopping trip. Result ...

...Descartes which as we know represents the beginning of modern philosophy and with several agendas behind his thoughts, but one that stands out the most is the desire to show that reason is a useful tool with which to discover truths about the world. Descartes claims that all systematic knowledge based on unquestionable foundations is evident, certain and felt that the only way through which his agenda could be met was by uncovering the faulty foundations of philosophical thought and shoring them up by laying a new foundation. Descartes considered his mind to be the most knowledgeable of his beliefs, and sought to infer an external world including matter from such introspection. Descartes contrasts with probable cognition, and regards arithmetic and geometry as a paradigm. In the first mediation after entertaining the dream and the powerful deceiving god hypotheses, Descartes adopts the strict policy of regarding all his ordinary opinions as they were false. The justification of this is that he points out that although most of his previous beliefs are in need of a solid foundation, they are highly possible. He doubts his out thoughts and skeptical those hypotheses are needed to counteract what he feels and thinks of how he views the world, and feels that he can never get out of the habit of assenting to these opinions unless he can in fact claim them to be what they are that is highly probable opinions. His opinions which he feels in a sense that they are doubtful...

...Introduction Bangladesh with its poverty stricken economy coupled with large population base has no choice but to transform its people to skilled human resources through education, in general and higher education, in particular. As the cost of providing higher education has risen to a very high level, it is no longer possible for government to provide higher education to all. Due to budget constraints new universities cannot be established at government initiative. So the government of Bangladesh looked for private participation in this sector as a way out on the account of increased demand for higher education in the country and allowed private universities (PUs) to operate since 1992. However, the operations of PUs for last 13 years has been observed to produce mixed results. PUs could bring about some positive changes in the Higher education of the country in terms of increased capacity for higher education, politics-free environment and responsiveness. On the other hand, there are also serious allegations concerning high cost and poor quality of education in most PUs. The situation became so grave that a high power investigation team formed by the government had to put eight PUs in its black list and recommended for the cancellation of their license to operate as “University” in the country. Against this backdrop, the government opted for more stringent rules for the regulation of the PUs and accordingly preparing for the amendment of the existing Private University Act...

...What do people think about when they hear about the word values? Well what people do not realize is that they use values every day. Values are thinks that reflect who we are as an individual. Each person has different sets of values. Values are the things that we learn through life by watching other people. Values make up who we are today. The values that I fellow are respect, dependable, and tolerant. One of the important values that I have is respect. My definition of respect is; when I show another person how much I value him or her as an individual. I follow the motto; treat people the way I would like to be treated. One of the ways I show respect is when I am at a school play or any other school assembly I sit quietly and listen and do not disrupt; I even do this when I am not interested or do not know about the topic. Another way I show respect is when my parents tell me to do something I do it and never talk back. If I decided not to do something my parents told me to do, I would get in trouble or be yelled at. Another example how I show respect, when I go watch my cousin play soccer I pay attention to his game and cheer for him when he scores a goal, or does a good play. The way I, show respect the most is with my attitude towards my elders and peers. I have the up most respect for my grandparents. I show my grandparents respect but letting them sit down, while I stand, holding the door open for them, and helping them around the house. They are much older than...
