My name Makaila Macerol Marzvidook and I am a ten year old girl from London, the year is 1869. Both of my parents were killed in an Ebola epidemic three years ago. I have been properly educated in writing from her mother, but that is all. Now starting to heal, I have decided I will either choose the path of a workhouse and live in gross conditions with other people and countless diseases, or I could accept my invitation the infamous pick-pocketing gang, The Salty Codgers, and live a life of risk. As of now I am unsure of my decision, but I am sure I will pick the right choice.

“ So what’s your name honey? You come ‘eer to work?” An old ragged clothed lady had walked up to Makaila, presumably the manager of the workhouse. “I- I’m Ma- Makaila,” …show more content…
Benny was the same height as Makaila and Harold was right, they were the same age. Makaila walked over to Benny to shake his hand, but realised it was covered in dirt, and so were her’s. Before they could shake she quickly drew her hand back. The boy frowned and looked at his own hand, after seeing the mess he waved his hand at her signaling him to follow her. The two walked through the house until they reached a room with a sink basin and faucet. Makaila gasped in excitement after seeing it and sprinted past Benny in order to get there first. She turned it on and washed her hands while humming a song Benny could not recognize. After she finished, she wiped her hands on her skirt and hopped away from the sink. After they were done, they headed back to the main room where Harold, Larry, and three other men were conversing.” I say we go out now, them guards probly got tons of money.” Said one of the new men, he was closest to Larry and had a dirty red scarf on. His clothes were baggy and he had hair similar to Harold’s. “ I’m sorry, but I must ask, if you have so much money, why do you wear baggy clothes and disguise your home as a workhouse? I just don’t get it.” Makaila asked, she had a puzzled look on her face. Benny stood next to her with face as if he was pondering all the possibilities. The three new men had now shifted their gaze on her now. “ I’m sorry, how could I be so rude. This is Calvin, Calwin, and Calmin, they’re triplets. And to answer …show more content…
She was just glad to have some new friends. The last thing she could talk like a friend was her doll. She eventually ditched the doll, but when she had it she thought it could and did talk to her. “ So this is Makaila and Benny? Glad we got some newbies, I was gettin’ bored of you guys.” Calvin said, but was met with a shove from both of his brothers, who were standing on either side of him. Makaila tuned out of the conversation afterward, but was pretty sure they were thinking about robbing people while Queen Victoria passes. “ So it’s settled then, in roughly five minutes we’ll head out and get

Hamlet's Dilemma

...One of Shakespeare's longest, most perplexing, and, for a lot of people, most frustrating play, Hamlet stays one of his most convincing and the most read play and it lives up to expectations, too. Hamlet can be better seen by analyzing Hamlet's soliloquies. The majority of Hamlet's monologues demonstrate Hamlet's self-loathing and even a readiness to bite the dust. The soliloquy "To be, or not to be: that is the question" shows up in Act 3 Scene 1. It is, maybe, one of the best-known soliloquies by Hamlet in the play, which produces significant scholarly investment even today. Hamlet is feeling profound agony and distress in light of his father's passing. It appears that he is not able to acknowledge this partition. He would like to live. Considering suicide, he doubts himself rationally in the event that it is legitimized to live with so much agony and anguish or if finishing his own particular life is the best conceivable choice. "To be, or not to be: that is the question" Hamlet makes this a stride further and works on the supposition that everybody would rather be dead than living, and is alive simply because he has a trepidation of slaughtering himself. Hamlet is no more addressing whether he needs to die, yet just whether or he finds himself able to slaughter himself, on the grounds that murdering himself clashes with his religion. Hamlet’s sadness over his father's demise and his mother's snappy marriage made him wish for death even before he discovered that his uncle...

Momomo Monolouge

...Character Monologue It destroys me that they all come running up to me when they need someone to listen to them whine. They just carelessly suspect that I'm immune to sadness and depression. What they don't know is that I'm just like them. To them, I'm this person filled with joy and God knows nothing can drag me down. They assume I don’t have any troubles in my daily life, nope, all just rainbows and sunshine. They don't stop to consider that maybe all this depression surrounding me gets me down once in a while. No, how selfish of me, they've got their own problems to deal with first. They want to hear me say that everything will be okay, and that things really aren't as bad as they seem to be. You know, generic bullshit that’s on every page of social media. I’m having to listen to them ramble on about their crushes not liking them and their boyfriends not spending every minute of every hour of every fucking day with them. Maybe, it's my fault. I put on this front like I'm always so happy and cheery, so they naturally gravitate to the happiest person they can find within a mile radius. Maybe they're hoping a little bit of what’s left of my happiness will be passed onto them. Maybe they think that they'll be happier if they're like me. Oh, God. Stop me. I'm going on an ego trip again. But they wouldn't want this happiness spared onto them, it’s not happiness, quite the opposite. I can barely handle it anymore. People say that I'd make a good psychologist, and maybe they're right...

Monolouge

...Monologue 7/19.15 Monologue He was a man, cold like his steal knife. I could still feel it on the tip of my skin…so sharp…so lifeless. The blood dripping down my flesh, tears streaming down my face. He could have got me? Oh no…he could have. But did he? She was the first one to go. Who’s she you ask? Hmph…That does not matter anymore. I could hear her screaming as she called for help she grew limp, her voice cracking as he dragged her away. Do you think I am crazy? Doctor. Do you? The blood, the lives. Oh no but she came back, she came back but I knew it wasn’t her. The skin was there, but it was being worn by someone else, someone whom wanted to be her. I knew he wanted to smile, but her skin wouldn’t let him. He wore it, he wore what was hers. I stayed silent as he played dress up. The mirror he stared at was covered in dust, and each day I stared with him. He must have forgot about me? Though he enjoyed her skin a lot more than the others. He continued to wear it as if he knew I was watching, dolling her up as if she was his own. As he was her. This man wasn’t the prettiest, the lights dimming down on his harsh features, even with someone else’s face he couldn’t achieve beauty for he was a monster. How long did it take me to leave you ask? You tell me Doc am I really here or are you the one who’s...

Interior Monologue

...MONOLOGUE Ten seconds left. I can barely hear anything. I feel the vomit creeping up in my throat as the milliseconds go by. Everything is getting very blurry. Tension is rising. Who would have thought that we would be down by one point and I would be the one trusted to hold this basketball? Why did my coach want me to shoot the last shot in the first place? What do I bring on this court that is any different from what my teammates would bring? Every face on my bench is almost frozen, their eyes locked on to me and the ball. There are hundreds of people in the stands watching my every move. Deep breath. Every little thing has to be on point. Nine seconds. I just want to pass the ball away over to my teammate, get rid of it. Why not? Who cares what my coach says? He’s the one who put me in this situation anyways. Eight seconds left. Its just too embarrassing to miss THE final shot in THE final game of the season. I have earned every second I stepped foot on this court and worked too hard for this shot to be a miss. All the time spent practicing and all the injuries, I just cant let myself and everyone down. Seven seconds. I see everyone in the stands jumping up and down but can barely hear them. What do they want from me? i’m 18 years old for crying out loud! It’s not like I’m in the NBA here! I want to see them try and step foot in my shoes right now... Nonsense, focus. My defender looks really intimidating. His muscles contract as his thumbs rub against his fingertips...

...states of mind in two or three works of fiction you have studied. Introduction: Throughout both novels, The God Small Things by Arundhati Roy and As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, characters often lack rational thought and, speak in Most authors have distinct styles, and in both novels, Roy and Faulkner embed a deeper meaning within them with the use of a subtle and discreet narrative manner, such as stream of consciousness and interior monologues. This is particularly true in As I Lay Dying, a novel of a dysfunctional and unstable family told through fragmented chapters. Each character reveals their perspective in different chapters, but the perspectives are true to life in that they all reveal information about the Bundren family and their struggles to exist. Although stream of consciousness proves to be prevalent in the progression of the plots, a series of flashbacks and flashforwards unfold the secrets of these characters' unhappiness. Through the use of literary devices such as stream of consciousness, interior monologue and analepsis and prolepsis, Roy and Faulkner allow for the flow of impressions coming through a character’s mind to be represented on the surface. In the First Three Scenes in ‘the Glass Menagerie’, in What Ways Does Williams Portray Tom as Being Trapped?

...due to the fact that Amanda of an affluent decent and so such things as table manners when she was growing up, would have been of more importance than perhaps to Tom and his current financial situation. Tom does not appear in the second scene and so this could elude to the idea that Tom is trapped by financial burden. As we have discovered from Toms opening monologue, his father disappeared leaving Tom to be the sole provider for the family. This could perhaps suggest, through the theme of being male, that Tom is perhaps trapped by his gender, as in 1937 it was the role of the man in of the house to provide for the women. As a result of this societal norm, tom had to take work wherever he could find it, and so works in a low paid, low skilled job in a shoe factory. Perhaps the shoes are a metaphor to the running he is so longing to do away from his family, but more specifically, Amanda due to the burden of expectations she places on his shoulders to be the perfect gentlemen in a social class where, perhaps such thing does not exist. It could be argued that in scene three, the pivotal moment is not in the monologue when Tom breaks Laura’s glass menagerie, but the prior conversation he has with Amanda. Tom confirms the...

Audience Hook: There seems to be a lot of hysteria about Ebola in the news media. Look at any news source and Ebola is probably on the front page. It makes it seem as though we should be frightened, but how much of a threat does Ebola pose? This presentation was put together to debunk the myths of Ebola and outline what is being done to combat its spread in the United States. b. Thesis Statement: Research suggest that the current Ebola outbreak will not be an epidemic in the United States because it has limited transmission vectors, limited survival on fomites (inanimate objects), and adequate containment measures are achievable to prevent its transmission. Additionally the U.S. community and government responses will be much different than they are in the countries where Ebola is escalating. c. Preview of Main Points: i. Research indicates Ebola is not transmittable through the air but only by direct contact with an infected source so it appears that contact precautions will be an adequate barrier to its spread. ii. Ebola has limited ability to live on fomites therefore research shows that fomites must contain large sources of body fluids in order for the disease to...

Disease & Evolution

...disappeared and newer, more daunting ones have emerged. Many of these changes have taken place in the wake of important transformations in human civilizations and ecology. It is therefore feasible to propose that diseases succeed and fail in response to humanity's advances. Natural selection is unable to provide us with perfect protection against all pathogens, because they tend to evolve much faster than humans do. E. coli, for example, with its rapid rates of reproduction, has as much opportunity for mutation and selection in one day as humanity gets in a millennium. And our defenses, whether natural or artificial, make for potent selection forces. Pathogens either quickly evolve a counter defense or become extinct. Diseases such as AIDS, Ebola, Polio have shown their wrath and humans have sought to find cures and treatment options. By definition, disease is essentially “a disorder of structure or function that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affect a specific location (not just from a physical injury)” (WHO, 2007). The true boundaries and limitations of disease remain elusive. Healthcare specialists and researchers use “normal” conditions as their basis in order to understand what disease is. By understanding what disease is, one can target and identify the causes of the “abnormal” condition. The truth about diseases is that they are all relative. The question of how disease came to be remains unanswered though. Diseases are about as old as time—they have always...

Public Health Management

...Public Health Management Abstract Many low-income countries need to significantly scale up coverage of priority health services. This will generally require additional national and international resources, but better leadership and management are key to using these resources effectively to achieve measurable results. Good leadership and management are about providing direction to, and gaining commitment from, partners and staff, facilitating change and achieving better health services through efficient, creative and responsible deployment of people and other resources. While leaders set the strategic vision and mobilize the efforts towards its realization, good managers ensure effective organization and utilization of resources to achieve results and meet the aims. Public health management is really needed in Africa. For active and resourceful nursing management in Africa, competencies are vital. It is important to know the expertise of the managers on these competencies. It is also important to know if there is a gap between what managers think they know and what they really know in regards to skills. The role of public health for case management is to upkeep early identification of possible circumstances and persons under investigation (PUI) via investigation, mapping communication, awareness activities to healthcare workers and the public. Public health experts can also partake in updating the channeling of PUIs’ likely plus confirmed cases to health care facilities...

Ebola

...kasl;dka;s da;sdlas;dasnfks Dasdmsakdmlasdas;das Dasd a;sdlas Transmission It is thought that fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are natural Ebola virus hosts. Ebola is introduced into the human population through close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals such as chimpanzees, gorillas, fruit bats, monkeys, forest antelope and porcupines found ill or dead or in the rainforest. Ebola then spreads through human-to-human transmission via direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and with surfaces and materials (e.g. bedding, clothing) contaminated with these fluids. Health-care workers have frequently been infected while treating patients with suspected or confirmed EVD. This has occurred through close contact with patients when infection control precautions are not strictly practiced. Burial ceremonies in which mourners have direct contact with the body of the deceased person can also play a role in the transmission of Ebola. People remain infectious as long as their blood and body fluids, including semen and breast milk, contain the virus. Men who have recovered from the disease can still transmit the virus through their semen for up to 7 weeks after recovery from illness. Symptoms of Ebola virus disease The incubation period, that is, the time interval from infection with the virus to onset of symptoms is 2 to 21 days. Humans are...

Ebola

...Paper 1 Ebola Ebola first appeared in 1976 in 2 separate incidents which occurred at the same time. The first one in Nzara, Sudan the other in Yambuka Democratic Republic of Congo in a village near the Ebola river, from which the disease gets its name. The reason why Ebola is spreading so frequently now is because the latest case have started in Guinea und has spread into Liberia and Sierra Leone, It is stilled being carried by persons from one to the other so it has not changed. The Human is being infected by coming into contact with an animal that has the disease which then infects that person who then in turns infects other people he comes into contact with. The ways that an infected person infects another person is from direct contact through broken skin or mucous membrane with the blood or other bodily fluids or secretions of the infected person. The incubation period range from 2 to 21 days. I now from personal experience that the Military has a 21 day incubation period for all those that come back from the West Africa Region, but it is not on the same post where you are stationed but on one of the 6 posts that are specially set up for this, this areas are like you normal place of duty or home, you are there just to be checked if you have the disease as you go about your daily routine. This disease was first discovered when two outbreaks happened simultaneously in 1976 with cases in Sudan and The Democratic Republic of Congo.
