...BAB I PENDAHULUAN 1.

...can sell them at a lower price to earn money. 3. There is not a perfect ebook reader now. There are a wealth of e-books in the market. However, many of them need different types of ebook reader to open the file and then have a read as many of them are written in different format. Take the ebooks of Jin Yong as an example, when you want to read the ebooks of Jin Yong, you need a specific software to open the ebooks, like Jin Yong reader. Improvement: 1. water-proof. As we know that the e-book are installed in the notebook. However, there is a big problem when the information of the books is installed in the book. When the notebook is accidently thrown into the water, the notebook will be broken and the data will be vanished. In addition, when the notebook have water-proof, the readers can enjoy reading even they have a bath. This greatly enhance the feasibility of reading of them. 2. increase the strength of the notebook. As e-book is one of the methods to replace the traditional book, e-books should be introduced to both primary school and secondary school students. However, most primary school students are lack of carefulness towards their belongings. As a result, the notebook of them will easily fall and smash into pieces. 3. monitor the market if there are any pirate software in the market. As what I have mentioned above, the copycat behavior is one of the difficulties in promoting the ebooks. In order to...

...Chapter 2 Review of Related Literature What is an “e-book”?The question may seem facile, but the confusion caused by the lack of an acceptable definition of what an e-book is has become abundantly clear during the course of the research undertaken for this report, and this confusion in itself also constitutes a barrier to uptake. Conventionally speaking, there are two major types of e-book: the electronic version of a whole text (for example, of a book that already exists in print); or a database of linked materials, some but not all of which may exist in a print version (for example, scientific encyclopedias which include interactive tables). Although most librarians include database versions when they are discussing e-books, many individuals (lecturers, academics, students, even some publishers) assume that the term refers to electronic versions of discrete books only. The working definition used by JISC is “an online version of printed books, accessed via the Internet”; although this may provide an adequate working tool for the JISC E-Books Working Group, it has variously been described as “too broad”, “too imprecise” and “misleadingly suggesting whole texts only” by contributors to this report. Patently, it does not apply to e-book originals. Other definitions of e-books deliberately exclude the database versions: Non-conventional thinkers would broaden the term to include almost any electronic resource: they would argue that a website, a CDROM, even an e-mail might in...

...The implementation of books as digital downloads has given anyone the chance to read a book. Without having to leave the house, people can download a book in seconds. Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and Google have all jumped on the opportunity to sell e-books. E-book sales have jumped in recent years. With the invention and relatively low price of e-readers, Kindle and Nook being most prominent, Forbes estimates nearly 30 million Kindle e-readers have been sold. They also estimate that Amazon makes nearly $500 million in e-book sales annually. (Brown, A. 2014). With annual sales growing and 1000’s of book downloads daily, e-readers have had a profound influence on adult reading habits. Research shows that adults read more books per year on e-readers than in print. In some cases doubling the amount of books read than the average printed book reader. In 2013, USA Today and Bookish conducted a poll to see how many people owned an e-reader or tablet. Based on their results, they found that 40 percent of adults own an e-reader or tablet. Of those, 46 percent of them were in the ages of 18 to 39. That same poll found that 60 percent of college graduates also have an e-reader. At most, 35 percent of that number say they read more often now that they have reading devices than they did before (Minzesheimer, B. 2013). The particular person this article focuses on is a man named, David Delk. Delk says he reads 40 books a year compared to just 20-25 before his e-reading days. He explains his...

...Shenel Mason Professor Lannon ENC1101 29 January 2015 Text Books or Digital Books? The once forest green leaves are transforming into a beautiful shade of tangy orange stars descending from the trees, creating puddles on the hot floor. 2015-fall term has just begun, and college students have once again flooded university bookstores in hopes of not breaking their crying wallets and purses as they are used for over priced, difficult to find passages, non-advanced textbooks. While on the flipside, a majority of students have moved on to E-Books or Digital Books. “E-books are essentially electronic digital text similar in content to traditional print books”(Fliess). Digital textbooks are better than traditional textbooks. They are more affordable, have multi-learning styles and have great search engines (ProCon, par.5). To begin with, the era of traditional textbooks are over because of the noticeable cost deductions in digital books. Students pay an average $12,000 for textbooks every year, not including room, tuition and board charges (Lee, par 5). E-books are more cost friendly to students with “discounts that range from 50- 60 percent less than traditional texts”(ProCon, par. 3). For example, “Technology Ventures’’ business textbook costs $151.40 for a new copy, $113.55 for a used copy, and $83.90 for the e-book. Students can save even more by entering the e-book, which costs $65.60 ”(Lee, par.3). That’s a tremendous discount from the original...

...EVOLUTION AND SELF-INTEREST Richard Dawkins argues that at its most fundamental level, the genetic level, life is self-interested.1 Genes do only one thing; they replicate themselves. These replicators reside in and are carried around by biological vehicles (trees, animals, humans, fungus, etc.). The resources that support these biological vehicles are finite, so the process of life has become a competition among genes to create vehicles that can successfully compete for limited resources and survive to pass on their genetic code. Dawkins coined the term ‘selfish gene’ to emphasize the single, focused object of a gene’s existence. What he means is that the sole purpose of a gene is to make copies of itself using the Darwinian selection process; very selfishly ignoring the consequences this pursuit may have on other living entities. Self-interest is a requirement for survival. This does not mean, of course, that animals and humans cannot be altruistic sometimes, in certain activities.2 It does mean that no living entity can survive for long if it is only purely altruistic. On the other hand, survival is not necessarily jeopardized when an organism is purely self-interested. Altruism, in the absence of self-interest, is not evolutionarily stable in the biological world; it leads to extinction. It is for this reason that all extant life forms must be selfish. Humans, like all creatures, are self-interested; not because it is good to be selfish but because we would not be here if...

Pity me.”

...Albert Einstein once said “I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The World will have a generation of idiots.” The world is so reliant on saving trees and saving paper that everything is becoming electronic. With all magazines and books converting to e-magazines and e-books the world will become too dependent on technology. In a nation that citizens are already too dependent on technology I fear that this will create problems in the future. No one will really know the feeling of a magazine or newspaper hot off the press or the crisp smell of the pages of a brand new book. Taking a deeper look into saving trees and paper, books can be recycled and reused by hundreds or maybe thousands of different people. Whereas, the e-readers that are used for the e-books and e-magazines are mainly used by one person and are poorly disposed of whenever they get worn out or something better comes along. Compared to old fashioned books, e-books and e-magazines pose a greater demand other than just cutting down a tree. For example, manufacturing of electronic products, the shipping costs, fuel, and eventually, the energy needed to recycle these materials at the end of their days. I feel that with all that time and money wasted, people could just as well drive or even walk to their nearest library and check out a few books, and most of the time they are free. Living in a technology dependent nation, everything is going electronic. Just as Albert Einstein said “…technology...

...Usage of e-book increases rapidly among students according to e-book offers benefits for their studying. E-book is kind of ‘electronic versions of titles that are, were, or could be available as hard copy books, and therefore resemble books in their structure and presentation’(Briddon et al, 2009 p46). E-book has no differences between the printed books as it includes published information, numbered pages, table of contents, articles, figures and references. It also has numerous of formats, for instances, PDF, CHM, UMD, PDG and EXE, that users could read it on the screen of personal computer, laptop, Smartphone and any other kind of computer. This essay will examine the educational benefits of e-books from the point of view of student users and show e-book’s advantages, which include accessibility, money saving and portability. In the following paragraphs, the essay will firstly show the accessibility of e-book and limitation; secondly, money saving and one of the argument about used book; portability come last. Accessibility is the main advantage that students can benefit from by using e-book. Tedd and Large (2005) illustrated that e-book can be 24/7 accessible in many academic libraries via their digital libraries. Both Briddon et al and Jamali et al (2009) states that accessibility is the major benefit of e-book, users can get e-book through internet anywhere and whatever time they want instead of going to the library on purpose. Therefore, it would be convenience for students...

...ABSTRACT Society has experienced a revolution in information and communication during the last fifty years. This revolution is likely to continue to impact not only on the administration of the Nigeria, but on the society at large. The argument proposed here asserts that equality of opportunity of women and men is more likely to be achieved if both genders embrace the changes now occurring in communication and information use with similar vigour. This term paper seeks to highlight on the concept of gender discrimination, even as sundry instances of the persistent issue is well sustained. The argument proposed here provides an anecdotal rather than theoretical overview of the way in which the use of information technology has come to dominate modern decision making in a variety of contexts. The dimension of women disparity and the need to correct such inequality is elaborated. Finally, the areas of applications of information technology in curbing gender differences and the probable outcome of such applications is well addressed. INTRODUCTION Women are key to the development challenge. Throughout the developing world, women are at a disadvantage at the household, community, and societal levels. Within the household, women have less access to and control over resources and limited influence over household decisions. Beyond the household, women have limited access to communal resources, are under-represented in public decision-making bodies; have limited bargaining power in...

Before the coming of the printing, books were not products at everybody's disposal but they began to spread all over Europe setting the bases for the creation of a new type of market: the market of publishing. During the following centuries this market favoured the born of different applications of the printing, for example giving birth to the newspapers. But until the XX century nothing has changed in the approach to reading. In the early 80's, when computers and digital technology began to be really important tools for research of every kind, the idea that printed books could be converted in a virtual version started...
