The Effects of Corporate Governance Mechanism. a Case Study of Nigerian Listed Banks

...Nigeria all witnessed financial failures in the 90s and in the recent periods. This view was supported by Bell et al (2000), that the last 20 years witnessed several bank failures throughout the world. Financial distresses in most of these countries were attributed to a high incidence of non – performing loans, weak management and poor credit policy. In the view of Omankhanlen (2011), the development was said to have reflected the deterioration in the quality of credit facilities, coupled with the ongoing reclassification of bank assets. The banking institution occupies a vital position in the stability of the nation’s economy. It plays essential roles on fund mobilization, credit allocation, payment and settlement system as well as monetary policy implementation. Management is expected to exhibit good governance practices to ensure achievement of it objectives and avoid the consequences of failure leading to loss of confidence. This view was supported by Wilson (2006) that poor corporate governance can lead market to lose confidence in the inability of a bank to properly manage it assets and liability, including deposits which could in turn trigger a bank liquidity crisis. Oluyemi (2005) considered corporate governance to be of special importance in ensuring stability of the economy and successful realization of bank strategies. In achieving this, strict compliance to standards of lending high risky loan should be adequately secured. Weak corporate governance has also been a hydra-...

Chevrolet has a long history of success in developing and marketing cars, trucks, and SUVs that are practical, sporty, and affordable. Government demands for improved fuel economy and ever changing customer needs and preferences will be constant challenges as Chevrolet looks toward its next 100 years. Themes: Product innovation, product mix, branding, product strategy, competition, corporate reputation, evolving technology, customer loyalty, government regulation, international marketing General Motor's (GM) Chevrolet brand celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011. Throughout its history, Chevrolet has launched many different vehicle models, some of them widely successful and others deleted from the product mix shortly after introduction. Over the years, the company has transitioned from an American icon into a worldwide brand known for quality and durability. Despite numerous successes and failures in its history, including the recent bankruptcy and bailout of parent company GM, Chevrolet is still going strong after a century of product innovation...

Brief History of Castillejos

...Foreword A history would by its nature, inevitably have gaps and missions with regards to local history. We can continue the work began by the older generation by filling in the gaps and omissions and presenting alternative viewpoints that reflect more accurately the complex nature of our collective history. We are all familiar with the souvenir programs generated by countless town fiestas and similar community celebrations that almost always contain a short account of the town’s history but we always fail to produce something to be of lasting value. One of the hazards of writing a historical document destined to be used as a future reference which may draw special interest from the readers and may have a wide circulation is the gathering of accurate and reliable information. It is surely one of the reasons why Castillejos has no written document about its own local history for no one has shown their intention to write something which is of utmost importance to unfold significant local stories and to enrich awareness and consciousness about the origin and roots of a true blooded citizen of Castillejos. According to Dr. Jose Rizal, “In order to understand the destiny of a people, it is necessary to open the book of its past.” Now is the opportune time to look back to be able to know ourselves better, the essence of our existence today and understand the reasons of what and how we become today. For any inaccuracy and misinterpretation...

...ork2012 - 2013 Catalog A Message from the President “Sullivan University is truly a unique and student success focused institution.” I have shared that statement with numerous groups and it simply summarizes my basic philosophy of what Sullivan is all about. When I say that Sullivan is “student success focused,” I feel as President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Business and industry do not expand or hire new employees only in May or June each year. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes. If you really want to attend a school where your needs (your real needs) come first, consider Sullivan University. I believe we can help you exceed your expectations. Since words cannot fully describe the atmosphere at Sullivan University, please accept my personal invitation to visit and experience...

Our objective is to improve the understanding of how entrepreneurship policies can lead to socially inclusive growth at the BOP. Drawing on data collected from Brazilian tourism destinations with varying entrepreneurship, innovation, and social inclusion policies, we argue that weak institutions coupled with alert entrepreneurs encourage destructive outcomes, especially if entrepreneurship policies are based solely on economic indicators. Policies addressing both economic and social perspectives may foster more productive entrepreneurial outcomes, albeit at a more constrained economic pace. The study extends the related BOP, entrepreneurship, global value chain, and sustainable tourism literatures by examining the poor as entrepreneurs, the role of local innovation, and how entrepreneurship policies generate different social impacts within poor communities.
