Goodbye Bank Secrecy, Goodbye Switzerland
From start of 2012 to May 2013, the number of foreign owned Swiss banks has fallen from 145 to 129(though it remains the biggest centre for global offshore wealth with $ 2.2 trillion i.e. 26% of the market, which was 27% in 2012). Example:- Lloyds Banking Group, Commerzbank, etc Reasons• Recent shake up in Europe’s economy • In 2012, one-third of banks had fund outflows • One bank in 6 recorded losses Hence many banks are reviewing their geographical footprint, specially in the offshore markets. Moreover, a combination of government actions from the US & EU and the increased regulatory pressure is likely to trigger more such changes, because it will only make it a more costly affair to do business. Smaller players will be forced to close or to merge with larger banks.

Switzerland will have to develop new products and services to attract foreign clients, now that banking secrecy argument has been solved in the recent.

Air-Asia to focus on India’s under-utilised airports
Budget airline carrier Air-Asia (which will launch later this year) is looking forward to:• Add 10 aircrafts annually • Focus operations on country's under-utilised airports as a part of expansion plan • To focus on South India first before expanding operations in the rest of the country The success will depend a lot on the cost structure & the marketing, says CEO Air-Asia. They are hopeful of achieving scale through lower-priced tickets & cutting costs by offering tickets online and keeping the agents away. Basically they want to have lowest fares & improved connectivity and tapping many routes that have potential. They will keep away from the metro airports of Delhi & Mumbai for the time being. They are going to face not only stiff competition in the domestic market, but also their margins will shrink with the fall in rupee.

Carmakers feel the heat as sales fail to sizzle
Despite record discounts, finance options & freebies, the car sales in India took a hit for the 8th straight month. Tata Motors sales fell the highest (33%), followed by Toyota (20%), GM (14%), M&M (13%), & even country’s top carmaker Maruti Suzuki (8%). Prime Reasons :• Depreciating Rupee • Spiralling fuel costs caused by the above • High Interest Rates • Additional Excise Duty on SUVs. However, Hyundai managed to marginally grow in sales by a strong portfolio & customer focus of its dealers. The sales of Ford, Audi & Mercedes Benz showed an upward trend too.

India slips on Global Retailer’s most attractive list
• Countries like Kazakhstan, Turkey & Armenia have pushed India to 14th position in the most attractive destination for global retailers from 5th last year. This is despite the government allowing 100% FDI in single brand retail but today it is still not easy to translate the business models into profits...though corruption has lessened the cost of business in India. Multi-brand players are having a “wait & see” approach as they are apprehensive of the way the policy will be implemented. The political uncertainty has affected the ranking the most

Gas hike leaves Amma combustible
• • • Jayalalitha became the first CM to take on New Delhi & the Reliance industries in lieu of the recent doubling of the gas prices. She accuses that the rise was done to benefit the Reliance Industries The reports before have also suggested that probably Reliance Industries is producing far less produce from the KG-D6 basin and this new price hike will only lead to the company making huge profits. The decline is because of technical reasons , so plants are operating at a fraction of their capacity.

Power Tower

...Power Tower in an Open Pit Mine: called a “Pit Power Tower” (PPT). | | By Jonathan Gwiazda and Francis A. DiBella | 1. Introduction1.2 Problem Statement The number of people and the amount of technology in the world are on the rise. People and technology both require energy. This rise in population and technology has led to a corresponding increase in energy demand. This trend is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future. The three primary methods of power production today are 1) fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas, 2) hydroelectric dams, and 3) nuclear power. The undeveloped potential of each of these power methods is restricted by either the associated environmental impact or by the limits of the resource itself. Current methods of power production are in need of supplementation. An ideal source would be renewable and have minimal environmental impact. This paper presents one such method.1.3 Overview and Scope < A href="http://ljb.advertserve.com/servlet/click/zone?zid=29&pid=2&lookup=true&position=1" target="_top">< IMG src="http://ljb.advertserve.com/servlet/view/banner/image/zone?zid=29&pid=2&position=1" height="240" width="120" hspace="0" vspace="0" border="0" alt="Click Here!">< /A> | The paper begins with the background and description of the proposed power source, its advantages, and a tabular outline of three example sites. Leader

...MY LEADERSHIP STYLE "Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you Want done because he wants to do it.” - Dwight D. Eisenhower Eisenhower’s definition of leadership is veraciously on the mark. As educators, we work diligently to engage and motivate students so they want to: learn, read, think critically, create, collaborate, and ultimately become lifelong learners and leaders. This is no easy feat. Yet when a child begs for more reading time, dives enthusiastically into a research project, or makes a cross curriculum connection that genuinely excites them, I guarantee a teacher is smiling! Similarly, effective educational administrators purposefully and deliberately seek to create a climate and culture that promotes and perpetuates ongoing learning. My leadership style is Transactional leadership. Transactional Leadership, also known as managerial leadership, focuses on the role of supervision, organization, and group performance; transactional leadership is a style of leadership in which the leader promotes compliance of his/her followers through both rewards and punishments. This type of leader identifies the needs of their followers and gives rewards to satisfy those needs in exchange of certain level of performance. Transactional leaders focus on increasing the efficiency of established routines and procedures. They are more concerned with following existing rules than with making changes to the organization. A transactional leader establishes...

Depending on the situation, these factors can generate opportunities for organisation or may be disadvantages too by imposing taxes and duties. Indian political system is going through various changes. In India, FMCG market can be categorised into rural and urban. Rural sector is mainly dependant on agriculture as its main source of living is with generally lower penetration levels and more unorganised part. Whereas, urban sector has high penetration levels and more spending power. That is why rural sector was the main area of focus for government for development in the recent past. There were many schemes run by government to generate employment and major investments were made in infrastructure development. Because of all this, there was an increase in disposable income level in rural sector and hence rise in FMCGs demand. (<http://www.hul.co.in/>) HUL has its own set standards to deal with political issues. It applies its rapport and experience to...

So you can never be too sure of what comes your way during the placements. PLACEMENT EXPERIENCE - I started my placement journey by getting shortlisted in Capital One on Day 1. They shortlisted 125 candidates on the basis of resume. Then they took a case study interview and reduced the number to 30. Then again took an aptitude test but finally didn’t give offer to anyone. - Then came Coca Cola on Day 2. They organised GD in the groups of ten each and then there was a single interview of about half an hour which mainly consisted of HR based questions. The topic of the GD was “Are Engineering students wasting time in studies ?”. The interview mainly focussed on the commitment to work with them and asked whether I did any activity depicting leadership skills. - Coca Cola shortlisted candidates with medium profile like moderate CPI with few extracurrecs. I had a target of gettng placed in Qualcomm from second year itself. It came on Day 2 and I got a call from Qualcomm in the middle of the interview of Coca Cola so I could not take their call. Immediately after this I went for the Qualcomm interview but they were not happy and asked me to leave without much interrogation. The results of Day 2 came and I got placed in Coca Cola. Nokia 2. Samsung WHY DO I FIND THIS TOPIC INTERESTING? The project emphasize in learning the organizational changes and analysing the impact they create in the development of their companies. Nokia and Samsung mobiles are well known world-wide. But what I find interesting is what made these companies bigger. Nokia, as we all know was a leading mobile company, has lost its position in the market. Samsung, which was well known as an electronics and home appliance company, catches up with Nokia in the mobile market. So the study of the change these organizations implemented in their company is an interesting thing to learn. And also the study of comparison...
