...School Profile EDA 575 Grand Canyon University January 15, 2014 Vision Statement Desertaire Elementary School is located in El Paso, Texas in the Ysleta Independent School District. Desertaire Elementary shares the same vision statement as the district. Students recite the vision statement every morning during morning announcements. All students who enroll in our schools will graduate from high school fluent in two or more languages, prepared and inspired to continue their education in a four-year college, university, or institution of higher education so that they become successful citizens in their community. The majority of this vision statement is true; the only part I do not think is factual is that students who graduate from our school are fluent in two or more languages. There are bilingual and monolingual classes at Desertaire Elementary, but students in bilingual classes are exited in 5th grade. Those are the students that are fluent in two or more languages. Community and School Demographics The student population for Ysleta Independent School District as a whole is 167,620. Desertaire Elementary has a student population of 927 students. The majority of students at Desertaire Elementary are Hispanic/latino. There is a high amount of military families that move in and out of the area as well. Its provisions include schools receiving Title I funds must evaluate students annually to demonstrate school’s progress to improving academics. However, opponents argue that provisions provided by this act does not provide enough funding to cover the cost of programs related to enhancing learning in low-income schools (“LeftBehind: Low-Income”, 2008, 591).
