Once Upon a Murder Americans have been searching for answers for over 150 years on the subject of a poet’s mysterious death; who is it you ask? Edgar Allan Poe. The great man died October 3, 1849 due to unknown causes, after being missing for several days. There are many speculations to his death from rabies, to alcohol poisoning, heart failure, and even murder at the hands of a jealous competitor. Yet these are all presumptuous ideas with little to no evidence behind them beside old assumptions by the unqualified doctors of Poe’s time. However, it has become clear through recent evidence that Poe died of a brain tumor by newspaper evidence and symptom diagnoses. Throughout his life Poe went through a mix of drinking phases and maddened phases, despite that he kept that he kept a calm face because of the strength his beloved wife Virginia. Having said this it only makes since to inform you that he grieved endlessly for her when she passed and fell apart without her to keep him together. Then there’s the tumor theory, so how do the two fit together? Cancer symptoms like seizures, little to no hand-i-coordination, hearing and vision loss, fatigued, and depression. It’s arguable that Poe had depression as often as mood swings and probably starting when Virginia got sick and taking it to his death bed. Poe also showed signs of fatigue and loss of motor skills during his “illnesses”; after that there was no evidence of his cancer until he was found in half dead and carted off to the hospital. All of this is simple connecting the dots yet that does not mean that every theory before this was barbaric it just means that people overthink the entire
