...Kevin McPheeters Instructor’ Choice Assignment Fall2012-ECO2023-Princ Economics II-372686 November 3, 2012 Plumbing In my current position, I have the chance to dabble in many of your typical industrial trades such as electrical work, carpentry, welding and plumbing. As much as I enjoy this type of work, my job requirements create limitations to my knowledge and experience. I work in a maintenance capacity; therefore it is helpful to know a little bit about a lot, as opposed to being experienced in exclusively one trade. All of the aforementioned trades are suffering a shortage of qualified employees, so the opportunity exists to get into any of them and succeed, career wise as well as monetarily. It just amounts to how hard one is willing to work on what are generally considered unglamorous trades. For the purpose of this assignment I am going to focus on opportunities in the plumbing trade. Plumbers are tradesmen that are generally qualified for a wide range of responsibilities, and also need some experience in other trades such as carpentry and welding. Plumbers can handle jobs as simple as one man unplugging a toilet all the way to an entire company dedicating its workforce to constructing a skyscraper. They can handle everything from plastic pipe and glue to cast iron pipes and a welding rig. If they are working on a house, they would need some carpentry skills for plumbing installation. Plumbers have an advantage over some of the other construction related trades...

...Consumer segment but with regards to the Tradesmen segment, B&D is behind. Despite its major presence in the industry, it faces a problem in the Tradesmen segment which only holds about a 9% share. This problem has been caused by a bad perception of the tradespeople regarding B&D due to its expansion into the Consumer segment shown by its successful Dustbuster® hand-held vacuum. D&B’s expansion to the Consumer segment has proved to be successful but it has also affected D&B’s image with the tradesmen who worked on residential construction. One tradesman stated, “. . . Black & Decker makes a good popcorn popper, and my wife just loves her Dustbuster, but I’m out here trying to make a living. . .” Tradesmen such as, electricians, plumbers, framers, roofers and etc are workers who are expected to show up to work with their own tools and this segment usually purchase their tools from home centers; and they regularly purchase tools for replacement basing their choices on conversations between co-workers at the job site. The fact that the households of these tradesmen use D&B as house appliances makes them think that D&B products won’t hold up in the work place making them choose other brands that focused more on the tradesmen segment. D&B looked for the source of the problem and found out that product quality was not the issue. They also did a research on the brand’s awareness and found that D&B is the most known power tool suppliers with 98%...

...and competent electrician for your home or business can be an uphill task. This can be even more challenging especially if you don’t know exactly what you want. This is so because you know that there’s a problem but you don’t have the particular know-how to establish the source of the problem. There are specific traits that one should look at when choosing an electrical contractor. First, an electrical contractor should have valid and up-to-date legal documents. This will help in certifying whether the electrician’s practice is recognized by the regulating body. One should make sure that the electrician is licensed to work in the specific geographical area and in the specific field. Secondly, a good electric contractor should be versatile in that he/she is able to adapt to the changing demands of the client. A client may have last minute change of thought thus requiring a change in the electrical fixtures in a particular place which was not initially planned for. Such an electric contractor should be able to offer the pros and cons of changing positions of fittings such that the client arrives at a satisfactory final decision. Experience is also a key factor when looking for the best suited electric contractor. An electrician who has been in the practice over the years has the requisite know-how of handling the different needs of a client. Such an electric contractor will be able to get the job done timely and efficiently. Another trait of a good electrician is reliability...

...When you understand the process of hiring and working with an electrician, it can go a long way towards helping you communicate with your electrician. Have an Electrician Handy Many people will only call an electrician during an emergency. When you build a relationship with your contractor, that person will become familiar with the home's electrical systems and could discover problems before they become emergencies. ...here to be given an insight into the concept of ‘texts and society’ in relation to Standard English. Under which I shall elaborate on, ‘into the world.’ The manner in which composers use this idea to bring to life their characters through the means of dramatic techniques both language and stage, their individual aspects of growing up and so transitioning into new stages of their lives. “Life consists of experiences, challenges, and achievements; all of which are building blocks that inherently create ones path to success.”Two texts, which revolve around the human experiences of facing and overcoming challenges, as you are already well aware: is the prescribed text: ‘Educating Rita’ by William Russell and the world-renowned accompanying, related novel: ‘Looking for Alibrandi’ by Melina Marchetta. In Educating Rita, Russell has created the sophisticated character of Susan White a woman driven by a sense of incompetence, who struggles for an education that will take her beyond the ongoing restrictions of class and culture; her self-discovery. This notion of an individual’s search for ones own identity and so a regarded lifestyle is reflected throughout the text, Rita’s determination in not allowing herself to be bound by the expectations and limitations of others is evident through Rita’s dialogue, “I’m slightly out of step… See I wanna discover myself first.” It is her disposition to remain stoic in the face of these challenges that keeps her on her path to finding her identity...

...Educating Rita Comparison of the book and the film “Educating Rita” is a play written by Willy Russel in 1979 that takes place in Northern England at the Open University. To give a short introduction of the play, we meet the two main characters, Rita and Frank. Frank teaches literature and poetry on the Open University, where Rita also wants to learn. She finds herself as being boring, and instead of being a hairdresser, she wants to succeed in what she really wants to do – get herself to know as a person by doing literature and by writing essays. A book and a film are hardly ever exactly the same, often because of the setting and locations, scenes and the number of characters we meet during the play. In the book “Educating Rita” by Willy Russel, we meet a number of characters who have some kind of a relationship to either Rita or Frank. For instance we meet Frank’s girl, Julia, Rita’s husband, Denny and Rita’s family. In the film we meet the same characters including several more as for instance the singing people at the pub besides Rita’s mother and father, the students at the Open University, Julia’s lover etc. One of the reasons, why we meet several more characters in the film is because, it is much easier to put characters into the scenes, even though they are not important or do not say anything. The characters make you visualize the following situations more clear, while the book can only give you a picture of what is written, and of course your own imagination....

...“The Case of the Addled Electrician” is a medical mystery short story by Benedict Carey. The story involves an electrician named Elmer Galbraith who has mysteriously contracted lead poisoning and is frantically searching for the cause to his illness. Throughout the story Carey uses suspense and dialogue to grab the attention of the everyday reader. The most obvious way that Carey builds interest is by creating suspense. He begins the story by describing the symptoms that Elmer has, continuing to do so for the first five paragraphs. As the story progresses, the interest towards Elmer’s illness grows. Once Carey has the reader hooked, he reveals that Elmer is actually suffering from lead poisoning. After Elmer’s illness is revealed, the reader stars to wonder what is actually causing the lead poisoning, which creates even more suspense. Using suspense keeps the reader interested and alert throughout the story. If Carey simply stated at the beginning that Elmer suffered from lead poisoning obtained by chewing plastic wire coating, then the reader would not read the rest of the story to learn about the symptoms and complications of lead poisoning. By creating suspense, Carey ensures readers actively read and understand the story. Another way that Benedict Carey is able to grab the interest of the reader is through dialogue. Reading words that were actually spoken by the characters is an excellent way to draw the audience into the story. For instance, the conversation between...

...Below is a listing of potential Industries and a few examples of businesses and jobs that can be group under each industry. I will take one or two examples and try to explain how it will all work. The Fishing Industry as an example: The old ways of fishing cannot compete in the Global industry today, hence a need for a new and improve means of doing business. Communities will have to designate a portion of the water body to build a fishing port. A fishing harbor will provide a means of docking and undocking, building of boats and other marine lives. Fishing Boats with more sophisticated navigational systems to locate fishes and the ones that can venture into open waters should be built; Canoes just cannot do the job today. Fish Farming must be considered to ensure a year round supply of fish to fuel the industry. Inland fishing should also be looked at. Research Centers must be established to keep the industry at par with new technologies. Students of Universities can engage in Marine Biology and/or Aquarium Science in studying the ocean and its inhabitants and how to protect the environment. Fish Centers with packaging and preservation capabilities should also be built to help control the prices better. A constant source of market must be available to further enhance the industry. Small private businesses that can support this industry are: Restaurants, Grocery Stores, Barbering Shops, Auto mechanics, Law Firms, Communication Centers, Accounting Firms…etc ...

...Andy Harrison Ms. Elizabeth Weld English 101 September 18, 2014 The debate of higher education is always a hot topic in the United States. Many share the opinion that college is the way to go for success in this ultra competitive world, but on the other hand there are some who believe college may not be for everyone. Two articles discussing this topic are Mike Rose’s “My View: Should Everyone Go to College?” and Karen R. Lawrence’s article “What Value Really Means in Higher Education”. The articles similarly talk about how college is the best choice for one’s success in the future; however, the two articles differ in their overall messages they are trying to convey to the reader. Mike Rose’s focus is to make the readers who are potential college students think about college as a strong option. Rose uses his own personal life experiences, along with specific facts about education to paint a picture of how higher education is a viable option. On the other hand, Lawrence uses a more direct and sterile approach to convince her audience, of educational professionals, to focus on teaching specific abilities to their students. Karen Lawrence’s purpose is to persuade the reader that higher education should give one the tools needed to be successful in the real world beyond an immediate earning potential. The basis of her article is to illustrate the specific skills that need to be taught in higher education. She tries to convince the reader that college is about becoming a better...

...be educated without schooling. For example, if children work well with their hands and can build things, then they have learned the practice of engineering. Someone does not have to be teaching students on how to read and write to educate them. Many times it is thought that students who are schooled the most, are the most intelligent and educated people out there. But what about people who don’t have access to schooling? They may still be educated and show their intelligence in other ways. __ RaphPierre says: April 24, 2013 at 11:45 am I have been working as an electrician on drilling rigs for several years. Each year, we go to classes to learn more about our trade, safety, engineering, and many other aspects of our work. It even goes so far as to go to classes for how to relate with foreign cultures. Education is not equal to school. I learn more on my own than was ever taught in school. I have been educating myself. The possibilities of self education have exploded with the introduction of the net. Even passing interest in any subject can be thoroughly researched to any extent, at any time, by anyone. What could be better than an inquisitive mind released to find everything he wants to know about anything he wants to know! Just like the little video said, I felt imprisoned in school. Disinterested teachers and one-way education made me feel ignored and useless. Bullied by my schoolmates,...

...Erick M Hudtwalcker Illegal Immigration English 102- Katema Lee Due Date: 04/14/08 Illegal Immigration The United States of America is a country made up of millions of people. Its society has many different cultures and religions. These blends of diversity make up America. The United State’s way of life is based on how people’s ancestors grew up and by the different traditions passed down from generation to generation. America is unique from most other countries in that she was founded by immigrants from numerous other countries. From Plymouth Rock in the seventeenth century to Ellis Island in the twentieth, people from every where came to America some were fleeing religious persecution and political chaos. Most of them came for economic reasons and were part of extensive migratory systems that responded to changing demands in labor markets; others, came here by choice and all eventually were integrated into the “American society” to become a homogenous people. These immigrants had a vision, work ethic, values, fortitude, imagination, and pioneering spirit which enabled her to become the greatest nation on earth. While it took longer for some than others, they and their descendents ultimately became "One nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all." Many, but not all, modern immigrants to the United States are not much different. However, unlike the distant past, immigration now consists of two components:...

...7 Cities Do It Yourself Auto Repair Assignment 2Week 8: Marketing Plan Part B Roderick D Williams Strayer University Marketing Management Professor Caitlyn Worner 6/1/14 7 Cities Do It Yourself Auto Repair The concept of 7 Cities Do It Yourself Garage did not derive from the passion of an individual repairing their own automobiles, it derived from finding a money saving solution to small auto repairs. Many people do not change their own oil, which is a very inexpensive preventive maintenance cost. Once you get the feel for doing your own oil changes, it will lead to you learning more about vehicle repairs and the amount of money saved in the process. This knowledge will come in handy especially during difficult economic down times, like the economy in 2008. As you learn more about at home car repairs, some required tools and equipment are not available for use in the driveway or garage. Researching a few backyard mechanics you will find the same problems. In addition, many people that rent homes and apartments are not allowed to work on automobiles on the premise, of the rental property; in the city of Norfolk it is illegal and by owner discretion in others. Roderick Williams has been a vendor at a local flea market for over 10 years and through his consumer connections, he was often asked does he know of someone that can fix this or repair that. Another vendor sells stereo equipment, but there is no one to install the equipment, especially on rainy days...
