...For most of us, education is an essential right. It permits a person to receive instructions and improve his or her social being. But for most that can’t even get the chance to go to colleges, universities and even just preparatory schools to study, education is more than just a right. It is a privilege, a gift that should not be taken for granted, and most of all, a blessing that should be handled with diligence.I was with the other thirty-one sisters from YFC who were given the chance to enter the Girl’s home in Manila Boys town. I was really excited to talk, to interact, have fun and most of all share Christ’s love to the girls who were inside the four corners of the still area. Inside, a buddy system composing of a YFC and a girl from that home was established through pairings. Choosing among all the girls to sit with, this young pale-skinned and silent girl really caught my attention. Maybe it was because of her unique hairstyle, but I also believe that sitting beside “Mae”(not her real name) is with a purpose. We talked, though I was the one who really spoke too much because Mae was shy. I’ve known so many things about her in a little span of time. Her favorite food, her favorite toothpaste brand, her crushes and most of all, her dreams. While having a conversation with each other, I just gave my full attention to everything that this girl would say. Despite her very young age, she had already undergone many challenges in life. Most of them made me tell myself that I...

...The Bag of Dreams campaign started as a vision developed by the business communication class of Cebu’s Ateneo Graduate School of Business and inspired by Professor Teresa Maria A. Custodio. At first the project seemed daunting, since the class was given no more than a month and a half to develop, organize, and implement the project. Ultimately we bonded together, elected two leaders and later on broke the class in to sub groups and assigned group heads for tasks that fit their skill sets. As a class, we decided education as our advocacy and voted to target the basic facility we can give students to jump-start their school year. Most organizations donate books and classrooms. We realized that without the basic materials needed to study, students wont go to school at all. We then went in to research as to what materials were needed by students, and found the exact mix students needed to perform. We selected the San Roque Elementary School in Talisay City, Cebu as our beneficiary because it had the right amount of students enrolled and came highly recommended by the education superintendent. We then went in to deeper investigation and found that the school was in much need of help. This further inspired us to perform better. What started as a difficult task slowly and surely became something we would do anything to achieve. And with only a month to organize and prepare, the bag of dreams campaign felt like a dream to accomplish. A month later and what seemed like a dream...

...is so true. Since the earliest of days India has been the source of inspiration to many countries in the world. From religion to education, from the status of women to great people like Jawaharlal Nehru and Gandhiji- who inspired our freedom struggle – India has shown a remarkable progress. Mark Twain once said, “In religion, India is the only millionaire......the one land that all men desire to see, and having seen once, by even a glimpse, would not give that glimpse for all the shows of all the rest of the globe combined.” In the ancient India people remained at the place of their birth. People of the same religion stayed together and followed preaching blindly as they had no knowledge about the practices followed the other religions. The pujaris or the priests or any other religious heads were revered and whatever they said or did was followed without any question. Today, spiritual leaders have sprouted – various cults have mushroomed and these spiritual leaders rule the roost. Religious activities per se have taken the back seat. But the crowds to religious places have increased manifold. Have you ever wondered WHY? I think it’s because there is perpetration of fear and anxiety by the modern day religion / religious heads. To salvage the remnants of conscience, people flock to these institutions. In education too, India has made a very notable progress. Ancient India had a system of Gurukul, where students left their parents and stayed...

...Throughout the duration of the four years I spent learning at Wakefield High School, I have witnessed myself evolve both physically and mentally into the person I am today. I entered freshman year as a naive and inexperienced kid, whose concerns leaned more towards making friends rather than succeeding academically. However as my time at Wakefield progressed, I found myself drifting away from my original inclinations and moving towards bettering my education. This newfound shift in thinking, arose, as a result of being inspired by a certain number of teachers and friends I was fortunate to have had, throughout my four years. They not only inspired me to be better, but they put me in a mindset that allowed me to discover my passion for computer...

...have also developed an exceptional character that shines through the way I interact with others. My entire life I have always been driven by academics. I was never the child that was excited for gym class, and I would almost always rather be inside reading a book and learning than outside playing sports. Marquette, with its vigorous curriculum and grading scale, was exactly what I needed to expand my knowledge in all areas. By going to school at Marquette, I also began to hone my interests, as I attempted to discern what I wanted to do in my future. In doing so, I have been inspired to express my opinions about topics that interest me, which led me to the law field in my search for college majors. Marquette has also inspired my passion for helping others, which will also factor into my future career. Throughout junior high and high school, I have been involved in small service projects that have inspired me to look for the problems in a community...

...This article was written by Margaret N. H’Doubler. The discussion is based on the principle of dance and how crucial it is to be taught in general education programs. Responsibility of common knowledge is critical to have an understanding of the relation to bodily movements and the laws that follow. Critically being able to know the psychology of the emotions and how they express your movement is necessary as being a sector of the human race. Teaching dance has been a relevant portion of the educational process for several years. Plato once even said, “the purpose of education is to give the body and soul all the beauty and all the perfection of which they are capable.” He expresses it clear that having awareness of the body is an element...

...DEFINING CURRICULUM AND THE APPROACHES QUESTION 1 The word "curriculum" has been and still is used to convey many different ideas and to signify many different things. The word's intended meaning actually differs depending on the speakers and writers and across place and time. The society, political situations, technological advancements, and philosophy not only influence today's curriculum, but they influence each other as well. Each affects and is also effected by one or more of the other therefore because of this, the concept of curriculum is sometimes characterized as fragmentary, elusive and confusing. However, the numerous definitions indicate change that brings about diverse interpretations of what curriculum is all about. The definitions are influenced by modes of thoughts, pedagogies and political as well as cultural experiences. According to Elliot Eisner (1985) defined curriculum as a series of planned events that are intended to have educational consequences for one or more learners of which I do agree with his statement because as an educator because we cannot cover the whole syllabus so we plan ahead on what we are going to cover and what not to cover which leads to us being in control of all the events in the learning process for one or more of our learners. Fraser (1993) views curriculum with a much wider interpretation as the interrelated totality of aims, learning content, evaluation procedures and teacher-learning activities, opportunities and experiences...

Elizabeth Cady Stanton was an influential advocate of co-education throughout her life, who wrote the “Declaration of Sentiments” implies both gender should have the same education. In her most famous speech called "Our Girls", she encouraged girls to get an education degree that would develop them as independent individuals. Finally, the ultimate test of leadership is the endurance of institutions and legacy of work started by leader that can be carried forward across generations. In this context, I would like to talk about my father, who is an inspirational role model to me. He comes from a very big, yet humble family that depends on agriculture for livelihood. My grand father supported the family of 8 children. My father was the eldest among all the children and the financial situation forced him to support my grand father by working on the farm while attending school. The home environment was not conducive to education and there was no one to provide direction to his siblings. My father realized the importance of education and knew that education alone can pull the family out of the current state of poverty and ignorance. My father led by example by working very hard at school, besides taking care of his siblings and...
