...Essentials of Higher Education for Nurses Marina Oliynyk Grand Canyon University: NRS-430V-O500 August 14, 2015 Essentials of Higher Education for Nurses The profession of nursing in its modern form exists for more than 200 years, and certainly it did experience a lot of changes. Over 150 years ago, Florence Nightingale defined nursing as “the act of utilizing the environment of the patient to assist him in his recovery,” and till this day this simple rule applies (Berman & Snyder, 2012, p. 13). Nowadays the demand for nurses is massive and every healthcare facility wants their nurses to be well educated, open-minded, and knowledgeable about current healthcare trends. Colleges and universities, as well as hospitals offer different programs for those who desire to pursue the career of nursing. Student options vary from a hospital diploma program to a doctorate degree in nursing science. After obtaining a degree, a new graduate nurse faces a great challenge of finding a perfect working environment. The amount of options is endless: doctor’s offices, clinics, surgery centers, urgent cares, hospitals, home visits, etc. In addition, most nurses have their desired specialty in mind such as, cardiology, emergency medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, list can go on for many more. With this said, acuity of patients keeps increasing, and so does “the demand for new competencies, such as evidence-based practice, informatics, and outcomes management,” requiring education...

...Diversity Education: An Essential Educational Opportunity Diversity education provides educational opportunities that nurture and maintain an inclusive and diverse community, promoting equality for people of all cultures, ethnicities, and religions. The Association of American Colleges and Universities supports higher education faculty and students to partake in programs that advance civic learning and democratic engagement, global learning, and engagement with diversity to prepare students for socially responsible action in today's interdependent but unequal world (AACU). Diversity courses, programs, or interactions in higher education are positively effective in improving students’ understanding and respect of our multicultural society, and are an essential component to educational institutions. Diversity education fosters a broad range of enlightenment and competency, including those of learning and democracy. Learning outcomes include active thinking skills, and intellectual engagement and motivation, while democracy outcomes were not limited to perspective taking, citizenship engagement, racial and cultural understanding, and judgment of the compatibility among different groups (Gurin, P., & Lopez, G.). It is said that personal and social identity develop best in situations during late adolescence and early adulthood, when one is able to experiment with different social roles before making commitments to groups, ideas, and a philosophy of life (Gurin, P.,...

...WK3Q2 A nurse with a Baccalaureate generalist education is the foundation upon which all graduate nursing education builds. The Essentials for a Baccalaureate degree is usually to prepare the nurse to assume roles as care providers; as designers, managers, and coordinators of care; and as members of a profession. Within these roles, the document provides specific standards for educational components that are essential for all baccalaureate nursing programs, including liberal education, professional values, core knowledge, and role development. The Baccalaureate graduate is able to translate, combine, and apply the knowledge that leads to improvements in safe care and good patient outcomes. This knowledge is increasingly complex and fluid. Therefore, baccalaureate graduates are expected to focus on continuous self evaluation and lifelong learning. The knowledge acquired enables the Baccalaureate graduate to practice holistically, provide safe care, assume accountability for their practice, care for patients across the health care landscape, and engage in self care to enable them to provide care to others. http://www.aacn.nche.edu/publications/order-form/baccalaureate-essentials Master’s education equips nurses with valuable knowledge and skills to lead change, promote health, and elevate care in various roles and settings. ...Abstract The report underscores the importance of the "skills that are most essential and associated with career and college readiness," [Paul Weeks] says. Since many secondary school teachers aren't familiar with the skills that have been identified as the most essential to succeed in college, high school educators cover a breadth of skills. "Postsecondary instructors would rather see more depth, not a broad range that are only an inch deep," asserts Weeks. For example, two students can pass algebra but have vastly different experiences and their knowledge can vary greatly. Colleges review class titles but rarely evaluate the essential skills mastered in the class. "Now we know what skills lead to college and career readiness," suggests Weeks. "And the more high school teachers are aware of those skills and can teach them, the better their graduates will perform in postsecondary education." Boone County schools also are collaborating with Northern Kentucky University to develop basic math programs. "We want to make sure that every student is at that level of mastery. It drives everything we do," [Karen Cheser] says. To prepare students to be college ready, it requires "conversations, transparency, and a willingness to put out data. It takes community-will and providing resources," she remarks. ...Sex Education Yevgenia Dashtoyan ENGL-107 08.26.2013 Sex, in the current world, has almost become a basic need for an individual. It has become a daily subject for the last several years now. People in the society talked about sex as a key way of birth control and means of reducing the spread of HIV and AIDs. Sex has now become an issue especially at this period when communities are experiencing a massive loss o lives through sexually transmitted diseases. It is, however, challenging to deal with the issue because young people are the most sexually active. The local media stations report sex scandals daily. If you go to school, you will find students talking about sex! Even in the middle and grade schools, is also dealing with the same issues. In summary, sex is currently the center of conversations in the society. Controlling this habit of sex has become a challenge not only in the society but also in the entire world. Children, on the other hand, are exposed to sex because of the lifestyle we are experiencing. Sex is a basic instinct in all-living beings; sex education should be encouraged in school with the aim of abstinence. However, it is also essential to advocate safe sex because the most teenagers are sexually active, making it impossible to campaign for abstinence (Erkut and Grossman, 2013). As a teen, watching videos that are sexy can make one not to think about safe sex, especially at the age. Girls might be in safer possible because they might get...

...from S1 to S2. This is because when a tax is imposed, it would cause the costs of producing the goods to increase, therefore the firm would be willing to supply less output (Tragakes, 2012). In this case, prices for the items which have not been taxed by Sales and Service Tax (SST) before, such as computers, laptops, men’s watches, cosmetics and such which are considered non-essential, will increase and therefore the firms would have to decrease its production. As such, the consumers would also be affected, as they have to pay a higher price for the items due to the implementation of tax. Also, items which were previously imposed with SST, such as television sets and air conditioners, would become cheaper, as the 10% tax rate will decrease to 6% tax rate with the implementation of GST (HABIB, 2015). This will cause the supply curve to shift downwards and rightwards from point S2 to S3. Consumers who are willing to buy these items, are now more capable of buying it. (Graph 2 shows the effect of ad valorem tax on normal goods with high PED) (Graph 3 shows the effect of ad valorem tax on non-essential items with low PED) The utilization of taxes depends on the price elasticity of demand (PED) of an item, which can be determined by first differentiating its level of necessity. A necessity, such as food,...
