The legacy of one of the most prominent Shakespearean actors of his time was filled with international fame, success in business, and even saving a life. Although often overshadowed by his infamous brother, Edwin Thomas Booth is an important part of American entertainment and its progression.
Edwin Thomas Booth was born on November 13, 1833 and grew up around the theater. His father, Junius Brutus Booth, was a famous Shakespearean actor-- this likely influenced Edwin and his two brothers Junius Booth Jr. and John Wilkes Booth to become Shakespearean actors as well. Edwin’s acting career quickly far surpassed his brothers’, performing for the first time in September of 1849 at 15 years old as Tressel in Richard III with his father after touring

A Summary Of John Wilkes Booth's Assassination

...David Herold gave himself up, and walked out of the barn with no arms, but Booth remained inside of the barn, defiant. Booth offered to fight the two detectives present, along with the 26 soldiers there in a gentlemanly manner. The two detectives declined the offer because Edwin Stanton had requested that they capture Booth alive if at all possible. Booth gathered his weapons and his crutches and prepared to go out to fight the soldiers. Private Boston Corbett had been waiting at the side of the barn, and saw Booth prepare himself to fight. Since he was out of Booth’s line of sight, Corbett lined up the shot, and pulled the trigger. Booth fell to the ground, and the detectives rushed into to retrieve Booth’s body before the entire barn was encompassed by the inferno. Corbett had shot Booth because he believed that Booth was ready to open fire on his fellow soldiers (Booth 19). They laid Booth on the porch, where he laid for hours, paralyzed. He disgustedly called his hands “Useless, useless” and his final words were “Tell my mother I died for my country” (Swanson 411). Around 7 A.M. on April 26, 1865...

PREFACE Rationale We agreed to produce the instructor’s manual for the sixth edition of A First Look at Communication Theory because it’s a first-rate book and because we enjoy talking and writing about pedagogy. Yet when we recall the discussions we’ve had with colleagues about instructor’s manuals over the years, two unnerving comments stick with us: “I don’t find them much help”; and (even worse) “I never look at them.” And, if the truth be told, we were often the people making such points!
