...Guidelines for the Audience Analysis Paper Effective public speaking requires that a speaker consider the various characteristics of the audience and utilize insights from that audience analysis during the development and presentation of the speech. This paper provides an opportunity for you to conduct an analysis of the audience for your speeches in this course and discuss the ways in which you might use conclusions derived from that analysis in the development and presentation of a speech to them. Although the focus of your analysis is up to you, all papers should meet the following expectations: • The paper should provide 1) An analysis of the classroom audience (including a description of selected, relevant characteristics (demographic or situational) and how those characteristics may affect the audience’s reception of the speech you are planning in COMM 3; 2) A discussion of techniques you would utilize in the development and/or presentation of a speech to take those specific audience characteristics into account; and 3) Some consideration of the limitations or potential problems that might accompany the conclusions you have reached during your analysis of the audience. • In addition to whatever other evidence you use to support your claims in the paper, you must also make reference to the textbook in the form paraphrases or direct quotations. ...the public in November 1991 (MCA, 2014). The beginning of the MCA was due to an Australian artist, John Power, who left his fortune to the University of Sydney when he passed away. The University of Sydney, on Power’s request, used this money to educate and inform Australians about contemporary art. This eventually led to the NSW Government donating the old Maritime Services Board premises to the cause. This location is where the MCA remains today. The following paper will analyse critical elements involved in the MCA’s strategic operations. Beginning with the mission, goals and objectives, followed by an external environmental analysis and an internal capability analysis. The majority of the paper will discuss proposed strategies and finally required resources. MISSION & VISION STATEMENTS Whilst not using the term ‘mission statement’, this statement successfully communicates what the MCA does, then delves deeper into the long-term purpose of the organization. The statement is clear, precise, and effective in providing managers, employees and external clients the...

...Nonverbal Communications- Actions versus Words in the Workplace Brigitte Nichols COMM/400 September 15, 2010 Christopher Page Nonverbal Communications In this paper will be discussed nonverbal communication in Intra-Corp Inc. Three examples of nonverbal communication will be discussed and analyzed. At least one listening technique will be discussed. How the listening technique can be used in a managerial situation will also be covered. At Intra-Corp. most of the communication is verbally or by e-mail, but I have observed a few instances of nonverbal communication. The first instance was a conversation between my boss, Alex, and Pam, the office manager. When Alex has something important to say to you, he will put his arms on the armrest of his chair take a deep breath and turn the chair to face you. He did this to Pam and told her about an e-mail that was sent out late. She rolled her eyes before she turned to face him. Since he is her father she let him say what he needed to and promised it would never happen again. Alex’s actions were a compliment to the conversation. Although her actions were condescending Pam did understand that he was upset. Her actions were not received by Alex, so no nonverbal communication occurred. ...

...Computer Mediated Communication Final Reflection Paper on Group Collaboration Project COMM.444 The online environment, and in particular, computer mediated communication is an effective medium to provide the social aspect of learning emphasized with collaborative learning. Collaborative and cooperative interactions can occur within virtual teams and groups based on how information is exchanged and requiring group members to formulate opinions and facilitate goals to accomplish. The utilization of a variety of CMC tools also helped our group establish a more collaborative and cooperative approach towards developing content and creativity, distributing tasks, creating a more cohesive online work environment. Through formulating certain ideas through our topic of CMC and its influence in online dating, we were able to give and receive feedback and evaluation from peers, gain greater knowledge into CMC principles, develop virtual interpersonal skills and critical thinking skills which are very important (Harasim et.al. 1995). Active participation strengthens learning. A learner is regarded as present online only when he or she makes a comment. "Lurkers", that is those who read but do not comment, are not regarded as part of the learning environment. Our collaboration research group consisted of four members. We initialized our approach into the project by utilizing our email to contact each other about particular research topics of interest in relation to the influence of...

...Analyzing Messages In this paper, there will be discussion based on three business-related messages that have been sent or received in my organization. We will start to analyze these messages using the communication process. The analysis derived from these messages will include the following: descriptions of the purpose, sender, receiver, message, environment, technology, noise, and feedback; Explanations of whether the message and technology were appropriate given the environment and purpose. We will then formulize a response to one of these messages using direct, effective writing skills. We will also explain how the technology, media, and content of the feedback are appropriate for purpose and audience. We will first look at what exactly is the basic communications model. This model is used as a deciphering the communications line referencing the sender, the receiver, and what exactly is constructed in the communications environment itself. The model is a comprised of a send and receive algorithm. The basic communications model can consist of communications based off of email, face to face, telephone, etc. The first business related message we will evaluate is email. This message was a sent to me with the subject title ISA installation process. ...Interpersonal Communication in the Movie Crash Jamillah Gleason COMM 200: Interpersonal Communication November 12, 2012 Instructor: Marcia Wynn Interpersonal Communication in the Movie Crash The movie "Crash" shows numerous examples of interpersonal conflicts between different characters in which all are interlocked with another. Interpersonal communication is "the process of exchanging messages, usually between two people, to create and share meaning" (Sole, 2011). This paper will identify one of the interpersonal conflicts of many that was poorly handled, and how it could have been dealt with in a different way. Conversation is an important part of connecting with others and forming relationships. It is the way things are said verbally or non-verbally to how an individual will react or decide to form a relationship with another. The character named Anthony is constantly struggling trying to prove that everyone is stereotyping black people. His constant complaining about stereotyping shows how low his self-esteem is to worry about what other people think. In the beginning he talks about how a waitress acted towards them by stereotyping. "That waitress sized us up in two seconds. We are black and black people don't tip, so she wasn't wasting her time. Now somebody like that, there is nothing you can do to change their mind" (Haggis, 2004). Anthony non-verbally self-disclosed a side of him that reveals that he also stereotypes individuals. ...

...career growth Comm/102 1/12/2011 Don Dwight The last research paper that I wrote was about divorce, and the reasons behind divorce. I found this topic very relevant; in the world we live in today many married couples rapidly have found themselves turning to divorce as an answer. Finishing the fairy tale they had once fantasized. Moreover, there are certain well- known reasons that put people at higher risk for divorce and these are lack of commitment between the couples, marriage at a very early age, Infidelity, alcohol addiction, and physical abuse, and even financial problems. In my paper I used many resources, including online references, blogs, books, and articles. I also used reliable references when appropriate. Quoted my references and included a bibliography to strengthen my essay. I started off my paper with some background information about divorce general knowledge and basic points. I wrote my thesis statement and branched off with my main ideas. I went to elaborate my main ideas making sure to use supporting ideas and details. I also used various statistics, facts, and figures to support and toughen my points and restated my thesis into my conclusion to summarize my research paper. If I were to rewrite this paper now I would have searched more...

...Business Communication Trends Melisa Sida University of Phoenix 12-4-2010 COMM 285 Florentino A. Lopez Business Communication Trends Communication in the home health work environment is very important. Effective communication is vital to the well being of a client. An effective communication system plays an important role in the management/employee relationship; employee/client relationships and the overall role of the agency within its own community. The home health business is particularly prone to growth and diversification. Communication plays a vital role in the day to day functions of the home health industry. Communication is used to relay information pertaining to a client’s care and needs. Employees use communication to express a problem within the work or home environment. Problems become resolved when there are no barriers in communication. None of this is possible without an effective business communication system. In previous years businesses communicated with clients and employees by means of the postal service or memorandums to inform of any new or upcoming information regarding the agency. Often face-to-face meetings were conducted and closed with handshakes. Memo pads or sticky notes were used to relay messages left for other individual staff members or to make notes on certain cases. A reminder list was utilized for tasks needing to be completed. Business communication entailed sending memos, writing business letters and so...

...Analyzing Messages Jeffrey Richardson COMM/470 November 22nd, 2011 Mr. Michael Zervos Analyzing Messages In today’s technological based world, communicating is a very important part of our daily lives. Whether it is a phone call, text, email or even a voicemail, the ways people or companies communicate is what makes our country run on a daily basis. Effective communication, either virtual or natural, is an integral part of our daily lives. As an employee for a major satellite network (Dish Network) here in Jacksonville, I know good communication is a very important part of my professional life. As a Crew Leader for technicians, my communication skills allow me to provide good customer service at all times. As a Crew Leader for a company that provides thousands of customer’s entertainment every minute of the day, I know that effective communicator also means effective an effective leader because an effective leader provides clear, accurate, and relevant information that employees can use to their benefits. But for a communication to be effective, according to our textbook, one must be aware of the various components of the communication process which are: sender, receiver, message, channel, feedback, environment and noise (Roebuck & McKenney, 2006). In this paper, I will concentrate on three messages that I received and responded at Dish Network. As a Crew Leader, I am receiving phone calls and voicemails on a daily basis. Since I am mainly in the field for over...

...Introduction to Comm Paper # 1 Meaning of Communication: Power and Control Communication can be described as something that is everything and everywhere. Communication can be looked at as not only something that happens between human beings, but something that occurs between all living organisms. When communication occurs words are not the only thing that is being transferred. Communication can be the exchange of thoughts, messages, or information, as by speech, signals, writing, or behavior. In order to have communication, there must be understanding. When understanding is present, more effective communication can occur. Communication to me is far beyond the words that are being said. I think a lot can be told through expressions in the face and tone of voice that is being used. The verbal part of communication is a main piece to the process, but you can tell a lot more of how the person feels or get a good sense of what is being said through the tone and facial reactions that you see. Communication is far more complex than the way I look at it in the paragraph above. Communication can also be traced back through culture and experiences. When looking at culture, it is easier to look at where communication came from. Within each culture there must be one language which will serve as the means of communication. Culture helps define communication because culture helps a society share the same ideas, customs, and beliefs. When two people (or things) share the same idea...
