The people of the new found island of Avalon have yet to be exposed to things such as technology or modern medicine. The civilization seems to be doing completely fine on its own. If the U.S came in and tried to take oil directly from under them it may cause a panic seeing all the new and unfamiliar objects and people. The once quiet home for many would turn into a large construction and drilling zone that would disturb the tranquility of what it once was.
