...BIBL323 | Signs and Miracles | The Eight Signs and Miracles performed by Jesus Christ | | Sherell Andrews | 2/17/2013 | The eight signs and miracles Jesus performed and how each reveals his deity. | In the gospel of John there are eight signs and miracles that Jesus Christ performed; these signs and wonders are written so that you may believe Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God. The first miracle stated in John was Jesus turning water into wine. He and his disciples arrived at a wedding celebration that was in progress. Mary, the mother of Jesus, came to him and told Him they ran out of wine; she knew he would find a way of getting more wine.[1] Jesus responded by saying his hour had not come yet. His mother had enough faith in Jesus and instructed the servants at the wedding to do what he ask them to do, He ask them to fill the water pots with water.[2] He miraculously changed the water into wine. This miracle is said to bring out new beginnings in the ministry of Christ. Many Scholars parallel Jesus turning water in to wine to his death and resurrection. You could explain it as a full circle in Christ ministry. John shows “Changing the water of Judaism into the wine of Christianity, the water of sins and being unsaved into the wine of eternal life in Christ and to be saved” [3] This miracle points to the deity of Christ in and the fullness of eternal life in Christ power over creation. The next miracles in the gospel of John are the healing of the...

...University BIBL 323 The Eight Sign Miracles of Jesus There are four Gospels in the New Testament, and each seemingly written to a different audience base that show different aspects to deity. There are a total of 37 different miracles attributed to Jesus during his years of ministry on earth; although, there are only eight miracles detailed in the Gospel of John. John is considered to be more sectarian and exclusive than the other three gospels. This book was written to convey and convince all those who read it of the Deity of Jesus. The author tells us in John 20, “And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name”. So, it is in this Gospel of John where depictions of extraordinary events that cannot be explained by natural or scientific laws is articulated in written form to beautifully show forth the divine nature of Jesus the Christ. The first sign miracle that John uses takes place at a wedding in Cana. Jesus was attending a wedding along with his disciples and mother. This was possibly a wedding for one of his family members because his mother was overseeing the duties of the caterers. According to John, a problem arose when the party had run out of wine to serve, and Mary the mother of Jesus, came to him for help. At this point, Jesus seemingly reluctantly offered...

...Samuel Nelms BIBL 323—B16 LOU Sign Miracle Paper February 19, 2014 Introduction: In the Gospel of John there are eight miracle signs that are recorded that are performed by Jesus in this Gospel. In the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) the Prince of Life doesn’t show or give any miraculous signs to prove his authority. In the Abramic religions, these eight signs are actual events from the beginning of His ministry with the turning of water into wine to the final miracle of a miraculous catch of fish after the death and resurrection of Christ. Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples which are not recorded in the book But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name (John 20:30-31 NIV ). This paper will explain and not only give light, but reveals His purpose, ministry and also His deity as Christ Our Lord. Jesus performed miracles in this gospel for a variety of reasons. First, the ultimate objection of the signs was to bring glory to God (John 2:11) and develop the faith of those who witnessed or heard about these miracles (John 20:31). Second, miracles were performed by Christ to demonstrate how he fulfilled prophecy (John 6:14) and third, perhaps as an expression of the compassion upon people (John 11:5, 35). Turning Water into Wine: The first miracle that Jesus performed was changing water into wine. Jesus and the few disciples that had...

...Sign Miracles In the book of John, John demonstrates the Deity of Jesus. Thought there are 34 miracles recorded in the four Gospels, John only talks about eight, to illustrate Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of God. One of the first miracles Jesus performed was when he turned water into wine at the wedding. This miracle demonstrates the seeds of the move from law to grace. When Jesus arrived at the wedding his mother, Mary, came to him and told Him they were out of wine. Elmer Towns said that Mary asked Jesus this because she knew that her son was Divine and was able to do something about it. When she asked and after Jesus told her his time had not yet come, he instructed them to fill six pots with water, which he miraculously changed to the best wine they had ever tasted. Mary told them to do whatever Jesus asked you to do. Leon Morris wrote, “The changing of water into wine is surely meant to bring out the power of Jesus to bring about a new beginning. There is a correlation between the best wine they ever had, to the best life they will ever have if they would make Jesus their Lord. Lean Morris puts it like this, “the water of Judaism into the wine of Christianity, the water of Christlessness in the wine of the richness and the fullness of eternal line in Christ, the water of the law into the wine of the gospel. When Jesus turned the water into wine, it showed His power over all creation, and His Divinity. Jesus next sign was the healing of the Nobleman’s son...

...out who Jesus was or what His teachings really meant. John includes eight different situations in which Jesus gives what are known as the “I Am” statements. Instead of continuing to simply wonder about who Jesus is, we can take an in depth look into the “I Am” statements that Jesus made while He was here on earth. Conclusions can be drawn by looking at the statements Jesus makes and looking into what they mean. He uses an emphatic “I Am” to bring out important teachings about his person. Most of these statements are known by Christians. The first of these eight sayings, and the one in which this paper will focus on, is taken from John 6:35 when Jesus says “I am the bread of life, the one who comes to me shall not hunger, the one who believes in me shall never thirst.” This is probably one of the most well known of the “I Am” statements, partially because of the events that came just before it. It is important to include that one of the sign miracles precedes this ‘I Am” statement. It is the people’s desire for more food that sets up the sermon given by Jesus the day after this sign is given. The fourth sign is the feeding of the 5,000. Jesus and His disciples are on a mountain when a group of people begins walking toward them because they had seen the signs he performed. Jesus asked Philip where they could get food for the people to eat, although Jesus knew what was going to happen. Andrew found the small boy who had the five barley loaves and two small fish and Jesus told the...

...Amos Darowksi BIB329NA Prof. Jeffrey Garcia The Signs of the Messiah The central theme of the Old Testament Holy Books is the coming of the Messiah and the establishment of the Kingdom of God among people. Despite their great antiquity, the Old Testament prophecies have in no way lost their actuality. They help the believing person to understand their faith more deeply and fully. To the unbelieving person, they serve as proof of the existence of God and His participation in human life. Just the fact that the prophets could prophesy the occurrences of the future, with such accuracy and with such detail, hundreds and thousands of years in advance, gives witness that God spoke through them. The goal of the Old Testament prophecies was to prepare the Jews, and through them all of mankind, for the coming of the Savior of the world, so that when He came, He could be recognized and they would believe in Him. However, the task of the prophets was difficult for several reasons. First of all, the Messiah was to be not only a great person, but at the same time God. For this reason, the prophets were faced with the task of revealing the Godly nature of the Messiah, but in such a way, that it did not give rise to polytheism, to which ancient people were so prone, Jews included. Secondly, the prophets had to show that the work of the Messiah would consist not only of the external improvements of living conditions but more importantly the goal of His coming into the world...

...Christmas – Religious Ritual Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the son of God. His birth date is unknown because there is little information about his early life. There is disagreement among scholars on when Jesus was born so Christians celebrate Jesus’ birthday on December 25. The word “Christmas” comes from the old English “Cristes maesse”, or the mass of Christ. There are quite a number of different symbols involved with Christmas. The mistletoe is a commonly used Christmas decoration. By tradition, people who meet under a hanging mistletoe are obliged to kiss. Mistletoe has pagan associations. Images of Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas, snowmen, reindeer, and candy canes are seen in cards,...

...Human nature is to look for signs for justification of thoughts, or even dreams to ensure the factuality of what the eye can see. The sad issues is that once the fact be known as true, the mind set of doubt takes center stage far too often. In fact, it is this very doubt that millions of dollars have been spent to seek the information that has been revealed. Today with the influence of the media and the outcry for a cure is heard around the world just as the day of old. The Gospel of John reveals the true deity of Jesus through eight amazing truths if one but listen, more importantly believe. Is not faith to see without seeing, believe without seeing? Thank God, for omnipresence, omnipotent, and omniscient Savior that took the opportunity...

...SIGNS AND MIRACLES PAPER Liberty University, November 27th , 2011 Introduction “Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and by believing you may have life in His name.” John 20:30-31 (HCSB) In the Gospel of John there are eight recorded sign miracles that Jesus Christ performed. This paper will briefly describe each miracle and how it reveals the deity of Jesus Christ. Turning of Water into Wine The first miracle Jesus performed was changing water into wine. He and His disciples arrived at a wedding celebration that was already in progress. Mary, the mother of Jesus, came to Him and told Him they had run out of wine, presumably because she knew that He was capable of doing something about the dilemma.[1] Jesus responded by telling her that His hour had not yet come. While scholars disagree on what Jesus meant by this statement, it is obvious that Mary, as a woman of faith, understood enough that she instructed the servants at the wedding to do whatever Jesus asked them to do.[2] Jesus did in fact direct the servants to fill six pots with water, which He then miraculously changed into a fine quality wine. “The changing of water into wine is surely meant to bring out the power of Jesus to bring about new beginnings.”[3] We might parallel the higher quality of wine that Jesus made from the water with the higher quality of life...

...“The disciples are seated in groups of three; there are three windows, while the figure of Jesus is given a triangular shape, marked by his head and two outstretched arms.”(Interpretation. web) with this you can see a triangular shape within Jesus and the twelve apostles signify something because in the story of the painting, it is said to be the moment when Jesus announces to twelve apostles that one of them has betrayed him and he is ok with it. From the right of the painting the first group of apostles would be Bartholomew, James. And Andrew which act all surprised to the news, the next group would be Judas Iscariot, Peter, and John who was the youngest and looked feminine. Next is Jesus which is the center of the painting and then is the next group of apostles which would be Thomas who looks to be upset, James, and Philp. With this set of apostles Leonardo da Vinci also leaves his signature within the paint which is suggested with hand gestures of the apostles. It was speculated that Leonardo could not read or new sign language and so that’s how he would sign his painting. The last set apostles would be Jude Thaddeus, Mathew and Simon Zealot. All the apostles had a humanist reaction in this painting such as fear, anger, shock, and disbelief which Leonardo meant to show. In this biblical story Leonardo depicts...

...circumstances. But each religion is based upon the teachings and life of a great man. When one compares the life of Buddha with the life of Jesus, one finds that the two share many things in common. This essay compares and contrasts the lives of Buddha and Jesus in two areas where they share similarities: conception and birth. The birth of Jesus was revealed to his mother, Mary, by the angel Gabriel, who prophesized, "The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end" (Luke 1:32-33). Similarly, Queen Maya, the mother of the Buddha, had a vision in which she was carried by the gods to a sacred place and Buddha entered her womb. Both births were in unusual places, which the mother of the child had to travel to. Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem, many miles from his hometown of Nazareth. Mary laid him in a manger. Buddha was born in a grove of sala trees at which his mother stopped while traveling from her home to her native city . Jesus' birth was accompanied by divine signs, such as choirs of angels and a new star. Three wisemen visited Jesus sometime in his infancy, worshipping him and presenting him with luxurious gifts. Siddhartha's birth was announced by the earth and heavens singing his praises. Siddhartha was also visited by a total of one hundred eight brahmins, who were considered the wisest men of India. Instead of worshipping him,...

...same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 7. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. John 3:1-3,7. In this passage, Jesus had a discussion with a man called Nicodemus. Jesus was at home one night when Nicodemus came to him. Nicodemus was a very important person in town. He could have been a Member of Parliament or the Chairman of the Metropolitan Assembly. Perhaps, he was a patron of the Methodist Church, the Catholic Church or the Lighthouse Church. He was a very important person. The Bible says he was a ruler of the Jews, a master of Israel, a leader in the synagogues. Nicodemus would not come to see Jesus during the day. He came at night, so that all the people who respected him would not see him. This prominent Jewish leader said something to Jesus, which prompted Him to give an interesting reply. When you look at the passage, you wonder why Jesus said all that he said to the man. After all, Nicodemus did not ask him, “How can I go to heaven?” He said to Jesus, “Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.” In other words, this man told Jesus that he recognized Him as a great man of God. But Jesus saw right through...

St. Anthony of Padua was a Catholic priest and preacher during the thirteenth century. Today, he is most often remembered as the patron saint of lost things. Numerous prayers have been composed in his honor, including this beautiful nine-day novena. Instructions 1. o 1 Make the Sign of the Cross, then pray the following prayer, "O wonderful Saint Anthony, glorious on account of the fame of your miracles, and through the condescension of Jesus in coming in the form of a little child to rest in your arms, obtain for me of His bounty the grace which I ardently desire from the depths of my heart. (Chris and I become family and fall deeply in love.) You who were so compassionate toward miserable sinners, regard not the unworthiness of those who pray to you, but the glory of God that it may once again be magnified by the granting of the particular request which I now ask for with persevering earnestness. Amen." Conclude the prayer with one Our Father[pic], one Hail Mary and one Glory Be in honor of St. Anthony. Repeat this process on every day of the novena, adding additional, different prayers on each...

...it takes place in the 50’s in a town in England. The story is about the girl Amina. Amina goes to a school where there appears to be mostly British students. This conclusion comes from the fact that they draw pictures from the Christian bible, and that the teacher does not know that Amina is not allowed to draw pictures from the bible. Amina is a young Muslim girl. A guess is that she is around eight years old, based on the facts that she does not know that she is not allowed to draw the Jesus child and they apparently spend a lot of time drawing in her school, so she is probably going in 2’nd grade or so. Amina lives with both her parents in the back room of their shop, where she spends most of her time alone with the TV. She behaves well; it is not all eight year olds who can spend every night alone without company. She is obeying, does what her mother tells her but also what her teacher tells her to do, even though she is not allowed to do so; She will no longer draw the Jesus but drawings from the Koran, but her teacher convinces her to draw a Christmas card with Jesus and...
