Informative Speech Outline
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the life and discoveries of Albert Einstein.
Central Idea: Einstein still remains as the most famous scientist of all time and his discoveries are still changing the way we look at the universe.
Introduction: E=mc2(squared) is the most famous formula that is known by almost everyone. This famous formula, of course, belongs to the most famous scientist Albert Einstein. I am pretty sure many of you, if not all, has heard of this formula at one point of your lives. Because I have a passion for both science and physics, I have been studying Einstein’s theories and his life for the last couple of years. Today, I am going to talk about early years of Einstein’s life and some of his discoveries which changed the way we look at the world.
Body:
1) Einstein was born in Germany and his passion for science started at a young age.
A. Einstein was born in Ulm, in the Kingdom of Wurttemberg in the German Empire on March 14th 1879.
B. In Einstein’s early ages, his father showed him a pocket compass; Einstein realized that there must be something causing the needle to move. This event sparked the passion inside Einstein for science and later on he began to build mechanical devices for fun.
C. Unlike a general thought, he never struggled to pass the exams or talk. It was just his family who thought he had a learning disability.
D. Even though being remarkably good at physics and mathematics, he was not as successful in other subjects such as foreign language and social sciences. This is due to fact that he always had a passion to follow what he liked, not for what school wanted to teach him. He kept criticizing the disciplinary system of the schools and said that school were destroying the passion inside students. According to book “Einstein: His Life and Times” by Phillip Frank, he said “Education is not the learning of the facts, but the training of the mind to think.”

2) Einstein updated Newton’s gravitational law and changed everything we know about gravity.
A. Before Albert Einstein defined the physics law for the modern time, Isaac Newton was the god of physics. Newton lived approximately 250 years before Einstein. We know Isaac Newton as the person who discovered the gravity. When the famous apple fell down to Newton’s head, he did not know what power caused that apple to fall down; so he had to invent something new, which he named gravitational pull.
B. Einstein did not believe in Newton’s theory, and began to think what it really was that was pulling objects down. According to a documentary movie that was made by history channel, Einstein came up with a new gravitational theory.
C. When he was looking out of the window from his patent office, he imagined a man working on the roof, and began to wonder what would have happened if that man were to fall off from the roof. Then, he had the happiest thought of his life. He had a vision that the falling man would not be feeling his own weight. Then again, he imagined, if you are in an elevator and somebody cuts the rope, what happens to you? You fall, but elevator falls at the same rate you do. So, you are weightless inside the elevator. That is when Einstein got it. It was because gravity was switched off. There was no such thing called gravitational pull. Objects were falling down because Earth was curving the space, and it was space what was pushing objects down on Earth.

3) After publishing ground-breaking articles and making great discoveries, Einstein became very famous, however he had to move to United States because of the rising Nazi power in Germany, and eventually WWII broke out.
A. Proving the theory of gravity and receiving the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921 brought him a massive fame. Einstein was getting more and more famous every day, many universities around the world were inviting him to talk about his discoveries.
B. Things were starting to change in Germany. Einstein was against the Nazis and their idea of controlling the world. The Nazis, as well, hated him in return and burned most of his books. After such events, Einstein decided to leave Germany and go to the United States.
C. When World War II broke out in 1939 Einstein discovered that German scientists were working on a bomb that could kill thousands of people. He wrote a letter to the American president, Franklin Roosevelt, to warn him. After Einstein’s warning, United States government started his own atomic bomb project, which they named “Manhattan Project”. Manhattan Project led to construction of the atomic bomb and two of those bombs were dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end the war against Japan.
D. Einstein was horrified by the use of atomic bomb.
E. According to “todayinsci.com” John F. Kennedy said: “The world is a very different one now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty, and all forms of human life.” Describing the power of atom use.

4) Most famous formula, E=mc2, is used to make atomic bomb.
A. This formula itself was the main principle of making the atomic bomb.
B. This equation means that mass can be turned into energy; and since speed of light is a very high number, even a small amount of mass could be turned into very high amount of energy.
C. For example, there is enough energy in a glass of water to supply enough power for a city like London for a week. The problem here is how to get the energy out of the mass.
D. . This is why first atomic bomb had 0.6 grams of mass, but scientist turned this small mass into energy which was powerful enough to destroy a whole city.

Conclusion: In the period before World War II, the New York Times published a vignette in their "The Talk of the Town" feature saying that Einstein was so well known in America that he would be stopped on the street by people wanting him to explain his theories. He finally figured out a way to handle the incessant inquiries. According to book “Albert Einstein-Unabridged Guide” by Randy Patricia, he told his inquirers "Pardon me, sorry! Always I am mistaken for Professor Einstein." Einstein today remains as the most famous scientist. Only few scientists could understand his theories and discoveries, but many of his theories are being proven right today. His life goal was to understand the way universe functioned, and make a mathematical formula out of it; which of course he could not achieve.
