REQUIREMENT FOR CE 556 (CE Project l/EnSE Project l)

1. Groupings will be 2 – 3 students. Make sure that these groupings are distributed equally in terms of your class section and schedule, physical, psychological, emotional and financial status. Submit your grouping on 5 December 2013, 11:00am.

2. All groups must submit a thesis proposal with background of the study and objectives (limit: two pages) on or before 12 December 2013, 3:00pm.

3. The thesis topic and the background of the study must be: a. Computerized b. Long bond paper with 0.75” margin on all sides c. Format:

4. Approval of CE faculty members will be handled by each group but it should have the undersigned’ signature to note that you are on the process of approval of your topic.

5. Proposed topic with at least 3 signatures from the department faculty means that the topic is approved and may move on with their thesis.

6. If your topic is denied, you are required to repeat the procedure #3 – 5.

7. You are given until 19 December 2013, 12nn to have one topic approved.

REVISED SCHEDULE OF SUBMISSION/DATE OF PROPOSAL & FINAL DEFENSE 8. ADVISORSHIP: a. The undersigned may suggest adviser for your thesis but you can also choose whom you want but please consider their capacity and availability as well.

b. You are required to write a letter (a copy of approved proposal attached) addressed to the adviser you chose and this must have a signature of approval.

c. Each group must prepare an activity folder (clearbook is most recommended) signed by their advisers conforming that their activities are performed and reported regularly and signed by the librarian / office confirming that you conduct researches (see attached form). This compilation will help the group and the adviser to verify if the topic is feasible as research / thesis and if it is possible so that thesis rejection will be avoided prior to the actual defense. This compilation will be returned immediately and will be submitted again (and activities are continuously recorded / monitored) with the final copy of the thesis proposal.

MIDTERM GRADING:Activity compilation: On or before 14 February 2014: 100% After 14 February 2014: 65% No adviser’s signature (weekly / twice monthly): -10% |

9. THESIS PROPOSAL: a. Complete thesis proposal must be given to the adviser 6 weeks after your topic is approved (deadline : 17 February 2014

10. PROPOSAL DEFENSE a. The defense is scheduled on third and fourth week of February 2014 (February 20-25). You may also request a specific date (which will fall in our class hours or the panel’s vacant hours) b. All copies must have the adviser’s signature and must be given to the panel (to be assigned by the undersigned) three days prior to the defense schedule. Failure to do so will have a demerit of 10% on semifinal grade. c. If the proposed thesis is denied by the panel, the group must repeat the process and must defend the new topic within the semester. Failure to do so will have a grade of 5.0.

11. FINAL DEFENSE a. After the successful proposal defense, the group will continue their work until the final thesis outcome is realized. Draft copy of the completed manuscript must be submitted to the adviser and the undersigned on the last day of February (28 February 2014) for comments and suggestions. A week after the submission, the group must submit to the undersigned the complete, corrected, signed by the adviser and panel, with proofreader’s certificate, the revised manuscript, in softbound. b. The final oral defense will start on the third week of March 2014 and will end on the last week, same month. Comments and suggestions must be included in the final copy of the thesis.

12. FINAL COPY c. Final copy of the revised thesis must be submitted on the first week of April, 2014, complete, corrected, signed by the adviser and panel, with proofreader’s certificate and in softbound. This is the basis of your Final Grade.

FAQs 1. What will be the attire? Business attire. 2. Can we bring cheat sheet? As long as you don’t read it. Proper way of presentation was discussed in RM451. Please recall. 3. Can we speak in Tagalog while presenting? It is an added point if you express yourself confidently, clearly and audibly regardless of the language though English is very much preferred.

REMEMBER:
You should be confident on what you wrote as your thesis. Your capacity as researchers are also a factor in determining if the proposed thesis is acceptable or not.
No matter how good your topic is, if you cannot convey its significance to us, there is a high chance that your proposal will not be accepted for thesis.
Compliance on this schedule has a great impact on your thesis as it will also enhance your skill on time management.

Please check the manuscript based on the set of structural rules that govern the composition of sentences, phrases, and words in the English language. Please make the necessary revisions if necessary with regards to the following errors on manuscript of the thesis/capstone projects:

a. Bad sentence structure b. Unfortunate choice of words c. Poor punctuation d. Excessive sentence length e. Poorly expressed ideas f. More than one idea or thought in one paragraph g. Mismatch of subject and verb (singular and plural) h. Making nouns out of strong verbs i. Repeating words or sections (except there is a need to loop back to clarify what is being referred to)
