However, it is not only physical things that are changed by time. Ideas, languages, and entire cultures differ when compared to their beginning. Rational outlook changed over time, adapted by different cultures and their views. Jackson J. Spielvogel tells us rational outlook is unique to the west. Within the west, rational outlook is seen from the Hebrews through the Scientific Revolution, and changed due to the different norms and ideas of each culture. Rational outlook is analyzing a thought or situation, and adapting it to best fit a specific lifestyle. The Hebrews started the idea of rational outlook. They lived for many years without a definite political ruler, living under God’s law. God chose judges to rule instead of a...

...For those of you that don't know me my name is Brittany. I work at The Willows at Citation where I took care of Julia. For the short 3 months and 11 days that I knew Julia. I've learned something that no book could possibly ever teach me. On our Journey together I was constantly being moved and touched in ways that I often cannot describe. To live with Alzheimer's and still laugh, love and find joy is nothing short of amazing. I never got that chance to meet Julia when she was full of life and energy. Instead God blessed me with Julia on May 6th of this year. God had also blessed me with the ability to really connect with Julia. I spent many nights by her bedside, I've spent many hours listening, I've shared many tears with her daughter's and I've experienced many lifelong connections. Julia taught me the importance of living in the moment and finding joy in the small things. No two minutes were alike. Things were constantly changing and it put us on the wildest roller coaster ride imaginable. I must say it took a while and I'm sure I'm speaking for a few others when I say this but I came to realize that in order to survive, you must live in the moment and appreciate each and every good thing that happens, no matter how small. Sometimes you really have to dig deep to find the good in a lousy situation. The interesting thing is that bar is constantly moving. That thing that may have seemed completely insignificant a few months ago, can suddenly become the joy that gets...

...Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Vs. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Call of Duty Black Ops 3 (COD) is a game based off of a military background. It is a first person shooter (FPS) type of game. This type of game is very different from another game type considered as a Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG). Some people have a preference to which type of game they prefer. COD has many fans and followers of their series over the last couple of years. Fans are very into this type of game and prefer to play games strictly related to the COD franchise. COD is very fast paced, very random, and requires little strategy to have fun with the game. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Skyrim) is what is considered to be an MMORPG. This is the exact opposite of an FPS. Skyrim is very slow paced, requires a lot of skill, and follows a plot. This leads to a much longer game play, and also an extremely large map. COD is played on smaller sized maps and follows no plot. Skyrim you have to have followed the series in order to understand the next part. This is the fifth game in the series. These games are complete opposites of each other. Call Of Duty Black Ops 3 is a very fast paced type of action game. Players choose teams or choose to go solo and battle against each other in a war like scenario. This game has rounds that last around 10 minutes for each particular session. The game can also win when a certain score or objective is reached/ completed. When you are killed...

...Elder Scroll V: Skyrim is one of the best role playing game that I have played, and this is also the first open world game that I played. I have played this game for 30-35 hours. At the beginning, I kept riding my horse around the world, discovering the various locations, each one is scarier, colder, lonelier and darker. I was attracted by the beautiful of the magnificent mysterious world with a heavenly soundtrack. This illusory world gives me a freedom to do what I want and become the character that I want to be. Later, I more focus on the main quest, and I love the fighting style in the game, it is really realistic to me. Beside playing, I also do some research about the game which makes the game more meaningful to me. Skyrim is the game...

...Kristina Nemeth CLA311 Tacitus, Annals of Imperial Rome Notes Chapter 1 From Augustus to Tiberius “I shall write without indignation or partisanship: in my case the customary incentives to these are lacking.” No republican forces were left after Brutus and Cassius died. Sextus Pompeius in Sicily was defeated, Ledpidus dropped, Antony killed. Only Octavian was left. Seduced with many gifts but soon the legal system was incapacitated by violence, favoritism and bribery. Augustus chose Agrippa as son in law after nephew Marcellus dies. Agrippa has sons Gaius Caesar and Lucius Caesar and adopted Augustus adopted them. Both die premature deaths, Nero Drusus is already dead and Tiberius is the only surviving stepson. Livia had control over aged Augustus—he sent to exile his only surviving grandson, Agrippa Postumus. Son of Nero Drusus, Germanicus was adopted by Tiberius by word of Augustus. Supposed foul play on Livia’s side as she heard how affectionate Augustus was to Agrippa Postumus on a visit and so sent letter to Tiberius and next thing that happens is that Augustus is dead and Tiberius is in control. Tiberius’s first crime was the assassination of Agrippa Postumus. First Senate meeting under Tiberius dealt with Augustus’s funeral—Tiberius and Livia were his heirs, Livia adopted into Julian family with name Augusta. After funeral, Augustus was declared a god and decreed a temple but the major topic of every prayer was Tiberius. Then a document was...

...Taken from 2010 past paper ‘City life in Roman Italy was dangerous.’ How far does your study of city life in Roman Italy support this view? In your answer you should: · consider in what ways life in Roman cities might be dangerous; · include analysis of the level of dangers in different cities; · support your answer with evidence from Pompeii, Ostia and Herculaneum. [45] There were few ways in which people could come under harm in ancient Rome as though it was not as developed as the world we live in now, there was still order. The events that would cause people to feel in danger were natural disasters, riots, fires, floods, and rarely an attack by a killer whale. Pompeii and Herculaneum suffered the most from natural disasters. They were struck by two severe events, one of which causing the demise of both cities. The first of which was the earthquake in AD 62, which cause widespread damage. The epicentre of this earthquake was more towards Pompeii but it was felt for miles, even causing damage in Ostia. The damage that the earthquake caused can still be seen in Pompeii as the some findings are still in a state of repair. Because of this earthquake, buildings such as Insula blocks were limited to two stories in their repair. This was so any further earthquakes wouldn’t cause damage to the same extent. The second, and more important natural disaster to strike the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum was the eruption of mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The effects of this...

...Unit F965 - Historical Investigations How Strong was Wessex at the death of Alfred in 899? It is a commonly held belief that Alfred, the only English king to have ever been afforded the epithet “Great”, successfully strengthened the kingdom of Wessex by the end of his reign (871 to 899). Indeed, by expanding his kingdom to include the rump of Mercia Alfred became known as anglorum saxonum rex or King of the Anglo-Saxons and not merely Wessex whose kingdom he had strengthened by such expansion. Despite Alfred’s organization of the administration of his kingdom, his extensive military reforms such as the establishment of his Burghal System, and his attempts to secure the throne for his successors some historians argue that in fact Alfred’s successors were the true strengtheners of Wessex, covering his failures and shortcomings even suggesting that “Alfred owed much to his successors”. It is true that Wessex became stronger and more powerful in the years following Alfred’s death by encompassing East Anglia in 917 and the entirety of Mercia and some may credit this to Alfred’s successors. However, the systems of administration and defence that Alfred put in place through his reign were capitalised on by future monarchs and that Wessex was indeed left in a strong position at the death of Alfred in 899. Some historians believe that Alfred’s Burghal System, described as “the most important element in his programme”, was integral in ensuring the strength and survival of his...

...My art selection is The Tower of Babel by Pieter Bruegel. The Tower of Babel is a Renaissance painting created with oil on an oak panel in 1563. Bruegal was considered the greatest Flemish Renaissance painter of the 16th century. He actually painted The Tower three times. The first painting was smaller and is now lost. The second painting was created on a panel in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. The third painting was a bit smaller and is now in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningon in Rotterdam. Bruegel was born in 1525 in the Duchy of Brabant and moved to Antwerp in 1542 to become an artist’s apprentice. He visited Rome from 1552-1554. He traveled through the Alps which may have inspired his landscaped style of painting. After working in Antwerp for 10 years he moved to Brussels in 1563 and died in 1569. Bruegal has about 45 paintings that have survived, of which one third of are at Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. The Tower of Babel painting is beautiful with all its detail. The background is sky blue with fluffy white clouds. In the distance are green grassy plains with a few small hills. To the left is a small town full of houses of all shapes and sizes. To the right is a body of water with many different types of watercraft. To the front is a king leading his people. The king has a few citizens bowing to him, but all others are working hard on the construction of the tower. Bruegel has painted many trades of skill working along...

...The DJ Booth Even while standing inside a DJ booth can be loud and obnoxious, the excitement of playing music and controlling a huge crowd sends and unexplainable feeling through your body. When I first step into a DJ booth at Club Centers, located in the heart of Rochester, New York, my nerves start going crazy and butterflies hit my stomach so fast it feels like I have to puke. Just the sight of three turntables and an eight-channel mixer in front of my face is like sending a little kid into a candy store. While standing in front of my tables, I look to my right and I see my soundboard. This high-tech, silver plated sound machine stands about seven feet tall with about three hundred switches and knobs that control high pitches, low pitches, medium pitches and all of the digital effects. This soundboard is used when I put a shiny new record on one of the turntables. This will distort the sound quality of the song. The music sounds like a fire alarm, starting with a deep sound then rising to a high pitch screaming noise. As I look to my left, you see my beautiful blonde light girl working my light board. While the music is playing really loud, she will hit certain buttons that will make multi-colored lasers go in different directions and make many different shapes. Also, while the music is jamming, a common light known by many people as a strobe light will flash non-stop constantly. This light makes you see people dancing like robots and distorts the vision of that person ...

...There are two ways that The Fall Of Icarus is portrayed. The poem Musee des Beaux Arts by W.H. Auden and the painting Landscape with the fall of icarus by Pieter Breughel both use the greek myth about the fall of Icarus as their subject however, both works treat the subject quite differently. Some details that Auden uses in his poem to describe the fall of icarus are a large splash, in lines 15 and 16 “The ploughman may have heard the splash, the forsaken cry” Also uses details such as “The sun shone as it had to on the white legs disappearing into the green water” and states that the ploughman turned his head in disinterest because it was not a concern of his. Auden mentions how everything turns away quite leisurely from the disaster, supporting the idea of it being human nature for people not to care about other’s misery unless it were to be happening to them or effecting their life in some way. In Landscape with the fall of icarus many details differ from Auden’s poem. For example there is no horse in the painting as there is in lines 12-13 “The torturer’s horse scratches its innocent behind on a tree” Also in Auden’s poem there are dogs going on with their doggy life but in the painting there are no dogs. In Auden’s poem he states “ there always must be children who did not specially want it to happen, skating on a pond at the edge of the wood” In the painting there isn’t a pond for the children to skate on nor are there any children. Overall the central idea...

...The Way of Words Hola! Hello! Bonjour! Today there are over 6,000 forms of languages that are spoken in the world. We are living in such a culturally diverse world and encourage others to embrace everyone’s race, gender, ethnicity, age, religion, and even personal beliefs. However, a common issue today is sometimes people do not embrace each other’s characteristics. Characteristics of a person describe their features and qualities. In today's society multiple people experience oppression, the cause of that is those individuals interpret and express their power of language differently. This is a problem because certain groups or cultures experience oppression due to the power of language. Language evolves our ideas and beliefs into reality whether we recognize it or not. We become more mindful of what impact the power of language has on us individuals. The power of language can influence how we interpret others and express ourselves. The term “normality” can interfere with an individual's power of language. The fascinating thing about language is that there are no limits. But that statement is mistaken because of others mindset decides what “normal” is. In today's society multiple people experience oppression, the cause of that is those individuals interpret and express their power of language differently. For example, if two Spanish speaking students were in a classroom filled with English speaking students they are simulated to speak English. Those two Spanish speaking students...

...Why did Prussia win the Austro-Prussian War? In the summer of 1866, the Austro-Prussian War broke out, with Prussia winning in a war, which lasted all of seven weeks. In deciphering why Prussia won the war, or rather why Austria lost it, it is essential to review the economic situation of both nations, and somewhat more crucially, their performances and outcomes of previous ‘wars’. Looking at the facts before the warm the gap in some aspects weren’t as profound as others. Essentially, the war was really over before it began. Austria’s situation was dire to say the least. In Europe, the usage of alliances was prevalent. One very poignant example was the alliance between Prussia and Italy, with Italy pledging troops to defend and disguise Russian movements. Austria were most excluded from the plethora of links between nations, meaning that if and when war should break out, there would not any nation willing to come to the aid of Austria in times of desperation. It was also on the verge of bankruptcy, as excursions into pointless wars had put a very heavy burden on Austrian shoulders. Additionally, the ‘war’ of Schleswig-Holstein proved to be a debacle and this consequently put a dagger right into the heart of Austro-Prussian relations, with Austria still supporting the Duke of Augustenburg to be the reigning monarch, whilst Prussia worked for annexation, on the contrary. Meanwhile, Prussia was most certainly in a very strong position. They were certainly on the rise and that...

...THIS IS IT There are a number of businesses emerging in the market nowadays. A lot of people are now capable to become entrepreneurs rather than become employees. Several questions are given consideration such as who are those who become successful and when does realization strike them that they really are one? But it seems like there is a bigger question being imposed here and that is, “Why do some succeed and some fail?”. What do these emerged businesses do that affect their fate in their chosen path? The answer is strategy. Strategy as defined by Helmuth von Moltke is ‘’applied common sense and cannot be taught”. He explains that strategy is about going beyond what you learn in school which is basically just about the common culture. There is no definite formula. Strategies are not only planned but can also be unexpected. In the business world, there are unexpected circumstances that come up that can be adapted into the existing strategy. It is important for a strategist to be able to see these opportunities that is usually otherwise buried under normal existing conditions and not visible to the eye of a normal human being. They must be able to recognize the patterns that emerges from opportunities. Although strategies should not always be deliberate, there are guidelines that a strategist may follow. Kenichi Ohmae explains that it is important for a businessman to be creative, have endurance and have good intuition. As explained previously, it is important that...
