...Objective: The objective of this report is to go over the construction of the electronic piano, tools and materials. Introduction: This is a simple toy piano using a 555 timer IC and a few basic components to create tones that that is sound thru the speaker. An electronic piano consist of several electric components that produce a voltage signal with a varying frequency. • Tools: 1. Soldering iron A hand tool that is used in the soldering process it supplies heat to melt the solder so that it can flow into the joint between two work pieces. 2. Diagonal pliers Used in trimming the excess leads closely as possible to the PCB. 3. Solder A fusible metal alloy used to join together metal work pieces and having a melting point below that of the work piece. 4. Soldering iron holder and cleaning sponge A standing iron holder is a tool that holds the soldering iron when it’s not in use. The holder also house the cleaning sponge which is used to clean off excess solder from the iron • Materials: 1. Printed circuit board Mechanically supports and electrically connects electronic components using conductive tracks, pads and other features etched from copper sheets laminated onto a non-conductive substrate. 2. NE555P integrated circuit An integrated circuit (chip) used in a variety of timer, pulse generation, and oscillator applications. The 555 can be used to provide time delays, as an oscillator, and as a flip-flop element. 3. IC socket A socket for the IC...

...Essay topic: Choose at least two works of the composer Frederic Chopin to discuss the significance of piano works in the Romantic period. Discuss at least two works in detail. In the early 19th century, also commonly known as the Romantic era, was a period of evolution in music, with many significant composers born of the era worth mentioning. I would like to discuss one of the most significant composers of that era, Fryderyk Chopin. Fryderyk Chopin was like any other artist, philosopher, thinker and musicians during his time: He composed his music from his heart, which made him sound unique and different from the others. He was born in the Romantic era and was strongly influenced by the romantic music of the time. Chopin’s music is intense with feeling, relying heavily on Rubato, the sense of free time which makes it very different from the previous era. His music was also written based on the advanced harmonic knowledge, giving beautiful colour and resonances to the music. Chopin had excellent piano-playing technique, which led to most of his compositions being written for piano. He was adventureous enough to exploit new improvements in the piano mechanismsuch as the increase of a piano’s range to a full seven octaves. The significance of piano works in the Romantic era can be easily found in all of ChopingnificanceTwo of his great works of this calibre, which I will use for the following discussions, are “ are r the foEb Major, Op.9, No.2” and “Prelude in E minor,...

...Executive Summary Problem: As a result of the declination of sales in the piano industry, Steinway and Sons needs to find a way to uphold its historical brand reputation while gaining market share world wide and using innovative technology; particularly in the Asian Market Background: In late 1994, Steinway and Sons was yet again a company on the market to be sold. For their own personal reasoning, the Birmingham brothers decided to sell the piano manufacturer. On April 18, 1995 Kyle Kirkland and Dana Messina, already controlling multiple firms, decided to make the purchase. The investment bankers purchased the New York piano manufacturer for an incredible $100 million. Discussion: The piano industry has been in rapid decline over the past 2 decades and in particular, Steinway and Sons has taken a hard financial hit. Global sales of the industry have dropped 40% over the past 24 years and with the introduction of major industry competitors, Steinway and Sons have continued to struggle. In addition to the negative impact of these industry trends, Steinway and Sons introduced a new product line to address customer demand. They produced a more mid-priced product line; the Boston Piano. This step, “breaking tradition,” was taken with the intent to gain market share in Asia while increasing profits. Recommendations: • Continue to produce the mid-priced Boston line of pianos to gain market share • Make grave attempts to take advantage of...

...Music Appreciation “Our lives are constantly changing, with new avenues of the supertechnology highway opening every day. This technological resolution has a strong impact on our work and our leisure activities. It also conditions how, when, and where we listen to music” Yes, as our book immediately states, our lives have changed. We can now listen to music in almost any location on earth. The music we’ve created has evolved into a great number of genres, all with wonderful different sounds. But without the old, there would have been nothing for the new to build upon. Much, if not all music from the middle ages and before is religious. This is due to sponsorship from the churches at the time, which usually consisted of monophonic Gregorian chants. Towards the end of Romanesque era, however, began the rise of polyphony. This evolved into the motet, while secular music was coming about in France and Spain. Afterwards, we move on to the Renaissance, an era of exploration, science, and artistic awakening. Melodies made specifically for the voice began springing up, and expressive word painting became a common theme. Around this period, amateur secular music started to appear. Later, we would be in what is now known as the Baroque era. It was a turbulent time, of change in politics, science, and arts. This marks the introduction of Monody, as well as the genre of the Opera. In a way, an opera’s Librettist, who makes the main story of the work is like the author of a show, or movie...

...Bojan to feature some of his best work selected from the “Soul shelter” and “Transpacifi” albums, namely Natural Ground, Buzz, No 9, Pick It Up and Empty Shell. The performance also featured some new, incomplete works which are still being developed. Many of them were influenced by traditional Balkan music, as Bojan said. The band consisted of Josh Roseman on trombone, Ruth Goller on bass, Sebastian Rochford on drums and Bojan Z himself on the piano. Bojan Z began his concert by banging out a percussion rhythm on the grand piano’s lid and top, which was strange but really interesting. This acted as a intro point for a modern and funky, danceable jazz tune along with bitonal structures and bitonal points. At multiples times, he reached inside the piano and touched out bass notes directly on the strings like a bassist usually does on his own instrument. That was really amusing for the audience. Some of Bojan Z's tune were played through a couple of effects boxes (one of which as a digital delay) and occasionally on a xenophone, an electronic keyboard of his own design. His jazz technique is redoubtable, to be sure, and his solos scorch the air, along with his fingers never waver. For a few tracks, the melodies usually hides inside continuous ranges of improvisation, served more as bones inside a body of sound, more like supportive structures than flashy facades. In the third track of the night, Josh and Bojan together played a unison melody as a recurring interlude between trombone...

...I grew up in a healthy family. I had an elder sister and a younger brother and this made my childhood days more colorful. My parents both had stable careers and this provided us with more opportunities to learn what we desired to. I remember when I was a young boy; my parents bought us a piano. I have been exploring music ever since my sister started taking piano lessons. This affected me so much that I insisted to my parents that I also wanted to learn piano. So I started my musical journey and continue it to this day. I finally completed my grade eight piano with a merit. After all the hardship I went through, success was finally shown in my result. I did not end my music after I went to secondary school. There, I joined the Chinese Orchestra Society. My purpose in joining this society was to learn more about my own traditional culture's music. I took a position in strings and my musical instrument is named "erhu". It is a traditional Chinese musical instrument similar to the violin. Instead of having 4 strings, an erhu only has two strings which can also produce beautiful musical notes as a violin does. I absolutely love the erhu and I have discovered that with the my background in piano, I am learning with tremendous speed. My teacher said that I am bestowed with talent and asked me to keep up the good work. My diligence paid off as I was upgraded from being a member of the orchestra to a concert master. I am very proud that I am able to take up the responsibility for the...

Yamaha Company was introduced in year 1887 with reed organ and piano manufactured by the Torakusu Yamaha as the Nippon Gakki Limited. This was a literally a Japan musical manufacturing company in Hamamatsu, and was later incorporated 1897. The company originated as musical instrument manufacturer and still reflected in the currents group’s logo. After the Second World War, the corporation president, Genichi Kawakami, repurposed the remains of company’s war period, the production machinery and the corporation’s expertise in the metallurgical technologies to manufacture of motorcycles (Davis, 56). YA-1, of which almost 125 motorcycles, were created within the initial year of production, 1954, and was named in the honor of the founder. The motorcycle was a 125cc, two-stroke, single cylinder, street bike that was patterned after German DKWRT125. The model was copied by the British munitions firms in post war era, and it was manufactured as Bantam and the Hummer was Harley-Davidson. In the year 1995, the success of YA-1 resulted in foundation of the Yamaha Motor Company Limited (Davis, 56). Currently, the Yamaha Company has grown tremendously, and has become the world greatest manufacture of the musical instruments that includes the following: drums, guitars, wood, winds, violins, pianos, "silent" pianos, violas, celli, brass instruments, and...

...Evolution of Musical Instruments Music, the concept is something almost instinctually recognized. Rhythm, is it appropriated from our culture, or is it something innately recognized between living beings? From beating on walls to humming tunes, making music is something we are almost all capable of doing. But over time we have evolved our way of procuring these sounds, these vibrational patterns, and it has helped us evolve the actual concept of music to newer and grander concepts. To better understand this, I have drawn up the following timeline, demonstrating the evolution of musical instruments. • ??? Our first musical instruments were natural our lungs. Dating back to the beginning of human history • 45,000 years ago Neanderthals carve a flute from the leg bone of a young bear, in the region that is now Slovenia • 8000 BC Aborigines develop first Didgeridoo • 4000 BC Harps and flutes played in Egypt • 3500 BC Lyres and Double Clarinets played in Egypt • 3000 BC Chinese court musician cut first bamboo pipes • 2800 BC The harp and the lyre are in use as musical instruments in Mesopotamia • 2000 BC Percussion instruments added to Egyptian orchestral music including Bells • 1500 BC A copper trumpet is in use in Egypt, forerunner of the brass instruments of the orchestra • 1500 BC Hittites use guitars, lyres, trumpets, and tambourines in music • 1000 BC Bagpipes first used • 800 BC Five tone and Seven tone scales appear in Babylon • 800 BC Earliest...

You are considering purchasing a personal computer. What factors would affect your price sensitivity in making the decision? How would those same factors affect the price sensitivity of some personal computer buyers differently? Some of the factors that affect price sensitivity is brand name, quality of product, features and attributes, warranty and guarantee as well as customer service offered by company, etc. These factors can affect price sensitivity of other buyers in a different manner. For example, brand may not appeal in the same manner to everyone. A brand conscious buyer will be heavily affected by product's brand whereas a buyer who is more focused on technology will be less conscious by brand name of the product. 2. What can a company do to decrease its customer’s price sensitivity? Would all of the customers be likely to react in the same way? They can reduce customer's price sensitivity by clearly highlighting the superior quality, unique product or service attributes and value proposition to customers via the marketing campaign. Most of the terms are Italian (see also Italian musical terms used in English), in accordance with the Italian origins of many European musical conventions. Sometimes, the special musical meanings of these phrases differ from the original or current Italian meanings. Most of the other terms are taken from French and German, indicated by "(Fr)" and "(Ger)", respectively. Others are from languages such as Portuguese, Latin, and Spanish. Unless specified, the terms are Italian or English. The list can never be complete: some terms are common, and others are used only occasionally, and new ones are coined from time to time.
